Useless is a strong word. I seem to recall a few years ago that a lady in Chicago successfully stopped a home invasion with a Hi Point carbine. With the options available to me it definitely wouldn't be my first choice, but some people's options are limited and have to make do with what they've got.
@tbone9903

yeah, this is some pretty braindead content. hi point is going to be some people's only option. putting the m1 carbine on this list is just dumb. no one is out looking for an m1 carbine for their first gun. it's the gun your family already owns, which is worth far more than the $600 glock that you dont own yet. the glock 43 is kind of the same category. i doubt anyone has purchased a 43 since the 43x came out. at this point, it's what someone already owns and it still shoots bullets.

@@tbone9903 I think the m1 carbine is firmly in the "collectible/historical gun" category at this point too. His only real point for it being useless was the cost and cost of ammo. By that logic a lot of guns and especially calibers are way more useless than .30 carbine. Hell even 5.56 and 300 blackout are pushing a dollar a round these days, so you're talking a few more cents per round, if you love the M1 it's worth it.

13:12 The SKS was developed during WWII and actually did see some limited use by Soviet troops towards the end of the war. So technically speaking, the SKS can be included in the collections of those who collect WWII small arms. And since it was used during the Cold War, it is suitable for those collections too.

I used to make very little money for a long time, and my wife and I used the SKS for home and travel. There are better modern weapons, but the SKS is accurate, uses a great round, likes cheap ammo, and can take abuse.

@@mrjones4249the SKS used to be cheap. They were under $200. I remember when Hi Points came out, they would usually be the same price as sks. Same with mosberg 500s. They banned importstion of the sks from China in 1994. You could still get them from other locations (Chinese but not from china). They further banned the importation of foriegn military rifles during the Obama years, so the price has gone up. Idk where the newer stockpiles of SKSs are coming from, but they're way more expensive these days. I recommend viewing the SKS as collector status at this point, simply for the lack of availability that's been forced upon it.
@homerj806

I think you are mistaken. The sks didn't officially go into service until 1949. By then it was made obsolete by the AK 47. I think you mean the SVT which saw service but had limited production. I think the SVT 40 had over a million.

@@Vault57 Those are not production models but mainly prototypes. Prototypes are not the same as production. You can only include in a WWII collection if it is one of those early prototype models. You can't include it if it is produced during the cold war. If you can find those early non-production models then good. You have a real treasure in your WWII collection.

*In fairness to the Hi-Point, the gun was designed when the assault weapons ban was in place hence it's 10 round capacity, and it was meant to be the "VOLKSWAGEN" of guns to the people. Out the door for $246 with two mags. I bought it in 9mm largely to train my boys. It is remarkably accurate, it's a beast to operate and a nightmare to break down clean and reassemble. It is also nearly indestructible. The way I figured it, if my kids could get proficient in all ways with this gun, everything else would be a cake walk. I still have it, it has been through hell, and I can count the number of FTF on one hand.*

I hog hunt with a titanium finish Desert Eagle chambered in .50AE. I use the thing hard, probably 100 hunts a year in terrible conditions and it's never let me down, always functions properly and never disappoints when it comes to stopping power. I'm 6'5"-300 pounds, so it fits my hand quite well, and carries superbly albeit I had a custom leather holster made to fit both me and the pistol very nicely. It's beat all to hell from all the years in the woods, but I see it as a badge of honor. Do I recommend a Desert Eagle for everyone? Ha! I totally agree with your assessment of the Desert Eagle; it is a dumb gun. It is big, heavy, has a mediocre trigger, a super thick grip and is more expensive to load than 460 Rowland. I have thought about selling mine many times, but then I shoot it, giggle, clean it and put it back in the safe….. I can say that the weight and gas operated system takes the bite out of 44mag. Plus, it holds two more rounds than a revolver and, unless you’re Jerry Miculek, much quicker to reload.

They have a purpose. You can punch holes in paper with them or you can make steel ring and dance with them. You can even use them to make dust out of those orange clay pigeons. With so many states facing drought they can be used to destroy those nasty hard dirt clods that are so hard to bust up with your foot or shovel. So see they definitely have a purpose and,if you sit down and think awhile, you can probably come up with other purposes. Another great purpose is therapy. Only a gun owner will understand that.

The reason I went for a .22 mag rifle for the mother in law and .40 PC carbine for the wife was a) Price of the weapon and b) Not only price of the ammo but having to support yet another caliber when the RM 22 and Ruger .40 PCC tapped into existing logistics

Nuts. Nothing wrong with an M1 Carbine. And all gloks are worthless. That's one I can agree on. I have a Rock Island Armory AR type 12ga shotgun and there's nothing wrong with it. The older Hi Point Carbines are great guns. That one you showed is not too short, the stock is actually too long. I took all the springs out of the stock and collapsed the butt of the stock till it was flush and tightened all the screws back up. Made it about an inch shorter in length of pull. Works great for me now. I have two of the old style in 9mm which is a weak cartridge, but I also have one in .40 s and w. It's not bad, but it's not as good as the HP Carbine in .45. That's the one you want. And you can get 25 rd extended mags that you can't tell is not part of the gun too.

You can't "top off" an AR shotgun without changing mags, and then you have to remember which mags still have 1 or 2 rounds in them. Nah.

It could serve as an excellent home defense gun where you don't want the loud muzzle blast of an AR15 or penetration through walls. I got the 16in carbine because I didn't want to hassle with NFA. A 500 S&W Magnum is totally impractical unless you are hunting big dangerous game in Africa. I also have a BFR! I do think the FN SCAR is a big waste of money. $4000!!!

However PCC are greatfor smaller stature and older people... and muzzle blast will be less... i do recommend getting a suppressor for either option if youcan afford it and its legal in your state

What really got me was how he compares a rifle length CZ against a pistol Kriss-V and complains about all the things that make it rifle length. You can get a pistol CZ that's compact and with a folding brace that he says makes the vector better, also at roughly half the cost. The vector shines in full auto, I mean, it's literally designed to mitigate muzzle climb in full auto but thats not what he has. I feel like he got that one completely backward.

@blackdogproductions2044 well, to be fair, it wasn't bs at the time. It was the #1 cartridge issued to local and federal LE, shortly after its intro in 1990. It was also the first and only semi-auto cartridge to surpass the venerable 357 Magnum in one shot stops according to info gathered during a nationwide study of police shootings. But as bullet (and propellant) technology improved into the 2000s, the gap between cartridges in one shot stop ratios reduced significantly, minimizing the once appreciable performance advantages of the 40.

The real problem with PCCs for me is that the affordable ones run off straight blowback. So unlike a pistol with short-recoil operation, the brass out of a cheap PCC doesn't seem to expand to seal the chamber and comes out covered in carbon and the action runs dirty. And you don't get much benefit from running the longer barrel other than less noise. I'm often surprised at what a weird recoil impulse they have due to the blowback operation.

Enjoyed the video. I agreed with every gun you showed except the AR shotgun. Bought a Citadel Boss 25 a year ago. First thing I did was break it down, scrubbed it with dishwashing soap, and then alcohol. Then put automotive wheel bearing grease on every moving part. And just before firing, I sprayed it wet with Rem Oil, and kept it wet for the first 400 rounds. For the light and heavy buffer weights that came with it, I fired 200 rounds through each. I used different round types and powers. Had a few feed problems initially with both weights. But by the time I had 200 rounds through each buffer weight, it fired flawlessly. At the end of the initial break-in test, I broke it down again and scrubbed it clean. Now I just use a regular coating of Rem oil from time to time, and she shoots great. I especially agree with you on the M-1 carbine. I own one. I love the action, but dislike the caliber. I also own an M1 Garand, an M1A, a Mini-14, and a Mini 30. Keep the great videos coming. Everyone is so tacticool these days they want .44 mag power out of compact, high-cap pistols that'll fit in the pocket, and anything over 28 ounces is too heavy. Average U.S. soldier in WWI was 5' 6" weighed 144 pounds, in WWII 5' 8" and still 144 pounds. They got the job done carrying .45's and real rifles weighing ten pounds. Might need some time to consider that.

I love my M1 Carbine. But wow...with the Korean 30 rounders, I usually get 3 stove pipes before empty. 15 rounders (including aftermarket) I can't remember any issues. Finding surplus ammo doesn't really have a price benefit any more. One of my favorites for the range, probably not a brilliant idea to carry one in Fallujah.

I have two Desert Eagles. One in 357 Mag and 44 Mag. I did use the 357 Mag as an EDC in the winter one year, and the pistol was pulling my pants down. From a carry standpoint, yeah... no. When I take them to the range, it's always a good time

speaking of the regular P365.. with the magguts mag extension, you can get 13 rounds total in a gun that's smaller and thinner than any glock on the market, and if you want a thicker grip, you have plenty of options from polymer to aluminum with G10 side panels.

I carried a Cobra 22 magnum derrenger or an NAA 22 mag revolver at a job where I wasn't sure if I was allowed to have a gun at work or not. There is no better deep concealment gun than the NAA 22mag revolver.

Wife and I both carry NAA 22 mags when doing craft shows where guns are frowned upon by customers but are comforting when carrying days proceeds out to vehicle in dark, lonely parking lots at night after shows. You are right there is no better gun for deep concealment at times like that.

I have the Panzar AR Twelve and it runs reliably with birdshot, slugs, and buckshot. I only used the OEM mags.

Great video. Mossberg 500 field and home combo. Has a turkey barrel with the normal stock. Also comes with a short barrel (20 inch?) and a pistol grip.

Rockola Jukebox Company even made the M1 Carbine. In 1993 a gunshop in Dallas had barrels of M1s still packed in cosmoline, $169 each, and SKSs for $69 each. I didn’t buy one then (yeah, I was an idiot).

Really practical information. I agree with your assessments. Can you do a price comparison of the rounds you are mentioning. Nothing worse than a gun that’s difficult or too expensive to use.
