I'd recommend not spamming the directional key and the dash, as you're likely to dash at the wrong moment. If you dash at the right time, Ayato can do 21 slashes (I have a record, you can see it on my channel). On average, Ayato makes 19-20 slashes if the timing of your dash is right.

For the 16 slash tech, I’m not sure if this is a ps5 thing, but I can consistently get 16 slashes without it. If you skill and let go of the na button, but then hold it right when it lets you, it’s very consistent at getting 16, without the need for the animation cancel.

The good thing about ayato apart from being hydro, is that he is very versatile on rotations also. So even if you are pulling for one team still can make a lot more like taser, hyperbloom, burgeon ( with good er), national and not the best but even freeze. I have all hydros char and still my second and first option on some cases

Welp, this will be funny but I accidentally got Ayato today xD I decided to do singles to try and get Kirara. On my first pull Ayato jumpscared me lmao. My pity history has been wiped for so long I had no idea what my count was. But oh well at least I pulled on Ayato instead of Cyno. Played with Cyno on a friends account and I just can't have fun. Only question I have is if 2p Marechausee + 2p Atk/Hydro would be better for him since... well, Ayato is the first on-field Hydro dps I have. Before him I only had Xingqiu and Yelan that are both running Emblem. And I'm currently farming Hunter/Golden Troupe for Fischl and hopefully Wriothesley in the future. So I'm wondering if I could make use of that 2p2p combo. Lastly, sadly I did not get my Kirara twt already did around 50 pulls in total and I want to save for Navia. So no kitty for me.

2pc marechausse is good. My ayato is top 4% in akasha (120er soup). I use 2pc marechausse and 2pc hod, strongboxxed for hod.

BRO SAME yesterday i was pulling for kirara but got ayato at 52 pity. He is one of my characters but the problem is that my 1st 5 star is literally neuvillette and my only other lmitimted 5 star is furina. That just makes him so useless on my account. (He is a good unit but you dont need 2 hydro dps when one of them is clearly better

I would aim at 70-140 minimum as a decent baseline but it highly depends on the context

Once Ayato is 80/90 I would say that it's not that necessary unless he is the main source of transformative reactions (bloom). You definitely increase his damage by going to level 90, as he also has some scaling from both ATK and HP but it's not going to be that noticeable. Make sure his Talent levels are high, his weapon 90 and decent artifact before going max level!

If you're concerned about dmg then upgrading his elemental skill comes first before fully leveling him up to 90

Been playing for three years and consistently clearing abyss with 80/90 characters. The cost vs benefit of levelling them up is not really worth it, unless you use pure HP or EM characters. My EM characters are still sitting at 80 and they still do well though
