Hi there, If you want more help using this tutorial, please turn on subtitles for this video - I have just added more onscreen instructions to help viewers build each shape with correct polarity. You can also find extra technical details in the video description. Thanks!

Perfect! Your videos have blown my mind at the expansive possibilities! They are also interesting and easy to follow. Highly geometrically addictive. I just recently received a starters kit and haven't been able to sleep since. :D I feel like they should be demoed in some sort of trippy music video or such. I'll definitely check out what you've got and practice what I can, especially when I receive more balls. Looking forward to more geometric possibilities that you've recorded.

Hi there, thanks for your interest. I'm planning to do another multi tutorial soon for 5 different 1 layer seamless polyhedrons, ranging from 127 to 272 magnetic balls, and they can be scaled up if you have more magnets. In the meantime, the sphere in this older tutorial of mine can be made with 420 or 432 magnets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXLeZaEe65-o5Y

I'm not sure what is going wrong for you, but the polarity of each piece is important. Wind in the same direction from the same end of the line of magnets so every piece fits together right. Also some of these shapes require 2 different subunits with opposite polarities to interlock correctly.
@cobybingbong40853 жыл бұрын
are speks good for building these shapes?
@ledwatchman3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure as I've never bought or used the little 2.5mm speks, but they should work in a similar way, maybe a bit fiddlier to work with than 5mm ones. You should give them a go and see!
@laikoz87413 жыл бұрын
Great video and it helped me a lot but I just for the life of me can't make the shape at 7:44 I can get the 2x2 and then also the string around it, but getting the single one in the middle, as well as the second 2x2 is almost impossible, even when it goes in and doesn't break the tips done align
@ledwatchman3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I've tried making the 2×2 piece again and it's pretty easy for me, if you continue the same line of magnets from the string of eight and wind the 2nd 2×2 in the opposite direction to the 1st one as you turn the piece upside down, then I just squeeze one ball from the 2nd 2×2 in to form the solid centre, and add 1 ball to finish the little subunit. I'm left handed in my videos which may make it a bit trickier to work out if you're right handed, and also I wonder what brand of neodymium balls you use? Some of the cheaper ones behave differently in little clusters that can make things harder. I hope this is of some help.

my magnets arent strong enough to do the last sphere. every time i join the mini sphere together they start combining by themselves no matter how careful i am ):
@ledwatchman2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. What brand of magnets do you use? My ones are decent quality N35 strength magnets. Cheaper brands may be weaker or poorly made and not behave properly. Those little units must be made the right way and all the same way, and oriented carefully to fit together correctly. See my description below the video for some tips on how to build that largest last sphere that might help. Did you manage to build any of the other spheres already?
@12345678951822 жыл бұрын
@@ledwatchman Yea they are definitely some cheaper brand. I don't know what brand specifically as I bought them off Walmart online from some random vendor in 2019. Just recently started playing with them again. I checked the description. Maybe I didn't have them in quite the right orientation? They stuck together in the same way as shown in the video but maybe they needed to be rotated in another direction? I could give it a few more tries later on but I know these magnets are weaker and of lower quality. I have an old set of zen magnets and those are noticably stronger. They are just a lot more expensive and I only have like 30 balls left from that set. I have been able to make every other shape shown with no problems though. Just that last one for whatever reason.
@ledwatchman2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you were able to build the other spheres ☺️ That last one is tricky if you don't orient the units right, so I'm not sure if it's your technique or the cheap magnets. Zen Magnets are strength N37 so a bit stronger than my ones, but they were too expensive for me and didn't come in other colours, yet they were the best quality available. It might be worth trying again on that last sphere with your cheap magnets. Thanks for your interest in my tutorial video!
@ledwatchman2 жыл бұрын
BTW, if you turn on subtitles/captions on the video there are some extra tips I added a while back to help build the spheres, including the last one. Good luck with completing the final one.

@@ledwatchman Yess I was finally able to make the triangle pattern with my magnets! You were right, it was my technique. I was making the mini spheres with different polarities and so they were never connecting right. But now that I know I can make one of those triangles, the last sphere is possible with my magnets. Just takes care and patience lol. Thanks for such helpful tutorials!

have you found a good brand of magnetic balls that will last long? We have several sets and all of them are losing the outside layer.
@ledwatchman3 жыл бұрын
Cheap sets are not well made, and as well as losing their coating fast are geometrically inferior and won't form flat sheets or large geometric builds properly. Neoballs by Zen Magnets are the brand I use now to add to my old collection, although even with these ones some of the bright yellow gold and rose gold ones have tarnished too fast for my liking, but the nickel coated ones are holding up fine.

@@DeckusCarde They were well used faded gold when I made this video, so they don't show up in contrast with the plain nickel very well.
