schlage locks are poorly designed. someone can walk up to it and drill a small hole in the bottom of it and if they ever want to get in they could just push a pin into that hole and unlock it in seconds. You wouldn't even notice the hole.

One problem is that when you start adding all these IoT gadgets to your home and you realize they all come with their own app and often they don't work in synergy, And after 2-5 years, these things stop working either because the electronics was not really designed for the rough environment they are exposed to or they simply are not supported anymore as the company went down or has moved its attention to future generations of the product. Your old-style light switches can outlast your house...expect many of these products last only 5% of the life of your house. Hopefully these companies will start putting much more focus on very long term durability and software maintenance soon. Definitely IoT for the home is not where it needs to be.

Why does there need to be a switch style thermostat on the wall? It should connect to my iPad/iPhone so I can just change it from wherever I am. For it to have the knobs and movable parts on the wall is just creating a part that will break....my phone sits next to me always, the thermostat is on the wall in the wrong room. Same with watering system and everything else.
@karlkarl72827 жыл бұрын
Abby Something Because a thermostat is a switch. Even if it is digital and "smart" it still has tiny relay switches inside of it. If you want to use your phone as a thermostat, then it will have to be equipped with a temperature sensor because there is no app for that.

so by that logic,if i wait long enough, my electric company will GIVE me a NEST thermostat?that would be cool,but im pretty sure you MEANT to say-electric companies around the world are SUGGESTING to their CUSTOMERS to go BUY a NEST thermostat :) thanks for the upload

Gmod Films [TR] Cheap because it is crap. Like the lock, which i could open in 30secs. Plus you can hack these things and use them to spy on the victims before you do what you do.

Nest products are over priced there are other thermostats that are cheaper and work just as well.

I Love Your Hate Actually ecobee is compatible with apple homekit while nest is not. Nest is google owned and sucks ass.
@karlkarl72827 жыл бұрын
I Love Your Hate I will not suck your ass. Hopefully when it was installed they hooked up the common wire to it, otherwise in a couple months it won't operate properly. I hate these stats because we replaced dozens of them after they would malfunction, usually a battery issue. Sometimes these malfunctions lead to pipes freezing in the winter. Tech support was the worst i ever experienced with nest. If you ever do need to call a mechanic because your heat or ac is out, tell them to test the system with a different stat. people have been ripped off paying for repairs when it was the nest that had the problem.
@karlkarl72827 жыл бұрын
I Love Your Hate Ok not to worry you but the 2 wire installation is what gave us headaches. Here is an article of why you should have a 3rd wire aka the common hooked up. www.cnet.com/news/whats-a-c-wire-and-why-should-you-care/

That lock commercial is so bad taste that I can not express it. And the product is a simple numerical lock with useless extra features like the app which makes it more vulnerable to attack. There are rfid locks now with rfid tags in rings and other wearables. And.. what happens if you forget the damn code?
@karlkarl72827 жыл бұрын
Florin Pandele They are also poorly constructed and easy to break into.

the probability of them guessing that 4 digit code is .0001% its HIGHLY unlikely for that to happen.
@ElTuco7 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Griffin .0001 is the 1 in x probability, not the % of people guessing the right code, also % implies an intruder only gets one chance or they'll only ever guess the right code on the 9,999th attempt, both of course are false. If you were to guess a such number, in all probability on average it will take you about 5,000 attempts to guess such number, the odds increase in your favour the more valid combinations there are. So on a lock with 3 valid codes, on average, you would guess a valid code after about 1,700 attempts, which an intruder could systematically work through over a relatively short period of time. I call that weak security.
@Rick_Sanchez_C137_7 жыл бұрын
Ivan Claudett thieves use camera that detects heat, can figure out which four buttons were pressed, camera mounted from side at a distance (possibly protected in a parked car) can provide video of hand pressing buttons.....in a crappy house on the meh side of town, nobody will put in the effort, but in good parts of town the effort will be expended by a thief targeting that house.... we have similar, annoying to always stand close to door and block view of buttons....
@stevebradley79017 жыл бұрын
you can make the code 8 digits and get a notification if it gets opened. Of course it would take less time for someone to drill a hole in your door and reach through and unlock it then go through 1700 codes anyway. How secure can a door actually be when you can just drill a hole in it?
