Cheers, mate. I'm learning a lot from your videos. When I was young (I'm almost - had huge lats. From about 11 years old I worked as a delivery boy, household furniture etcetera but it was mainly washing machines, cookers and fridge/freezers we delivered and because I was 'the boy' I always had to hold the bottom end. I assume that was the reason for the size I was as a youth because I didn't train. I played football (English) and Rugby, but no weights. When I joined the army I had to do a pull-up section, the average attained was 6, a good amount was 10, they had to stop me at 25 😂 Now, at my age and weight, I struggle to do 15 despite being fit and strong. I would like to improve that number, but my shoulders are buggered. My right arm is essentially paralysed due to a nervous system disorder in my right arm and leg. Unfortunately there isn't much I can do with my right side, but I do my best.

Ok, even the music's starting to grow on me. I've watched the other guys - Athlean X, Nippard, Ethier, etc. - and they're good. I find I'm really impressed with this channel! It gets straight to the point, clearly explains the science and provides the studies. Perhaps he doesn't go with schtick or online personality, but the actual content is good.

Its weird, because whenever I tried the underhand row, I couldnt feel a difference , compared to the overhand row. The single arm dumbbell row was the only excercise that truly activated my lats on a level that I hardly felt before, so I just do Overhand BB row and single arm DB rows, and also bent over DB raises for rear delts.
@leftwinger764
@leftwinger764 Жыл бұрын
try this: With an overhand grip, bend your upper body almost level with the floor. And with an underhand grip, don't bend your upper body more than 20 to 30 degrees. And for both grips: make sure you very consciously row your elbows back and contract your shoulder blades. I am sure you will feel the difference. Good luck and let me know if it helped you.
@kisbob5254
@kisbob5254 Жыл бұрын
@@leftwinger764 Nope, no matter how hard I squeeze and how hard I focus with my back, i just cant feel my lats working or pumped on the barbell rows, but they still grow. The only time I feel pump, is when I do the single arm DB rows.
@leftwinger764
@leftwinger764 Жыл бұрын
@@kisbob5254 With heavier compound exercises like this, you just don't get a pump quickly (like an isolation exercise.) That does not mean that your muscles that you train with the exercise are not properly loaded. This is also evident from the fact that your back does grow. What you can do, as a test, is perform the exercise only with a barbell without or light weights. doing 15 to 20 reps. It is inevitable that you will feel it and maybe also get a pump. Then you know that with heavier weights you also put a good strain on the muscles.

Really hard to think an Inverted row would not make such a lengthy list of lat builders. I love this channel and information. But in my opinion, they missed by omitting this exercise here.
@leftwinger764
@leftwinger764 Жыл бұрын
For decades the bent-over barbell row, has been the mass-building back exercise, because it allows you to overload the lats with the most weight. The inverted row mimics the barbell bent-over row. With the inverted row, the bar is stationary while the body moves. It should be just as effective as the barbell row. the inverted row don’t stress the lower back as much as the barbell bent-over row. I would say do both and agree with you.

What is the general consensus on weight? Heavy for 6 reps 4 sets or light for 20 reps and 3 sets. This has always confused me. I've been doing heavy, but I haven't been getting any stronger after six months. I just can't go up anymore on weight.
