One thing they're not mentioning is what the benefits of holding at the top of the pull up are. Isometrics (static holds) strengthen the tendons. Stronger tendons will prevent injury (tendinitis, nerve impingements, tendon tears etc) and allow you to gain muscle mass faster.

That last quote from Jared, "they're all trying to row for their lats, but that's not what the row was designed for..." sums up why I had such shitty back width as a newbie. So many videos on rows like 5-10 years ago all talk about rowing "for your lats" when actually focusing on exercises in that overhead stretched position absolutely destroy them for lat hypertrophy. I started doing lat prayers about a year or so ago when I saw the RP guys doing them and my back has gotten so much wider whilst I've maintained the thickness I built early on with heavy deadlifts and rows. This is such a well thought-out back work out and great explanation for the movements involved.
@JHCastelo10 ай бұрын
I always had a nightmare when activating lats during barbell row. I dumped them from my training most of last year, did only vertical pulling and lat prayers. But man, I'm starting my workouts with some barbell reverse grip integrated partials, they are Wild for the lats and lower traps!
@KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings10 ай бұрын
People don't disengage their traps and rhomboids during rows (setting their shoulders low and back like in a bench press). But also yeah I do pull-down, prayers, and X pulls, the finish off with superset cable Kelso shrugs and standard shrugs
@cideogameguy51510 ай бұрын
single arm rows are lat biased
@polypom845310 ай бұрын
@@KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings what's the point behind supersetting kelso with normal shrugs? they target the same muscles no? or do you just want the pump as finisher?
@KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings10 ай бұрын
@@polypom8453 because a Kelso shrug kinda forgets about the trap fibers connected to the neck; soo a Kelso shrug for a majority of the top and mid trap fibers then standard shrugs to your ear to finish off those fibers attached to the back of the neck. Excellent tips on the lat prayer. I've often done what I thought was the lat prayer but my body would come up to upright as my arms went down, mostly because that just seemed the intuitive and obvious thing to do. (I've done it that way from a kneeling position, too.) The idea that you only want to straighten your body a slight bit (along with Jarred's tip about internally rotating so your elbows go somewhat out, bringing in more lats), I think, is going to be a game changer. I'll be trying that today, if I don't get hit by a bus or otherwise interrupted. Thanks, guys! You're the greatest.
