@Rc Review I just got my TRX4 Sport 2 Weeks ago. What i did so far: 1. I use Louise Champ tires 120x45 with Aluminium Beadlocks 2. i did brass portalcovers 3. i go for an Hobbywing Quicrun fusion 2in1 1800Kv 4. I remove the Expetion Pack 5. i changed the Rocksliders 6. i Turned the front and rear bumber holders, upside down 7. i put 3 onze lead on each tire In total my Sport is about 8.3 Pounds weight and it performs awesome. I do some heavy technical Rock Trails and I love it. Btw ur Vidz just helped me a lot, and love to watch em. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany

Thanks for all the tips, I purchased the traxxas 79 bronco last x-mas, so far its been a fun project, I have done alot of the mods you have mentioned , Brass portal covers on all four wheels and brass diff covers gives me great traction, some pro-line gummy tires helped alot .The better servo is very effective and steering is a stronger feel, two mods that are effective that are not mentioned that worked really well were 1 - change the pinion on the motor to a 9 tooth, it helps to make the motor work more efficiently with wieghts and bigger tires ,less overheating .2 -reconfiguring the control so that the rear diffs lock before the front ,that way you can have posi on the back and open diffs on the front for tight steering downhill. Thanks for the tips I hope these are worth mentioning.

Great list and great channel! A couple of other things I've found helpful on my trx-4 sport: Installing reversed 100mm shocks with the black plastic spacers removed, taller shock towers and soft springs with a small amount of oil in the very bottom of the reservoir to keep the seals lubed and add a bit of damping at the bottom of the stroke. This setup is nice because it adds a lot of droop without raising the overall ride height much. Flipping the shocks also lowers the CG a little and you can loosen the shaft seal caps farther without them leaking. Broke the front axle shaft at the joint in a tumble so I installed the HD version along with the MIP 4mm wide track kit. After trimming the fenders it works well and seems to side-hill better without looking too goofy. I also use a small saddle pack battery setup because it allows me to move the batteries lower and farther forward than the bowhouse unit. This also frees up space to mount the esc and reciever on a custom tray that sits between the frame rails right above the rear driveshaft. It all seems to work pretty well and doesn't bind even without the long travel links. Still on stock wheels and tires though and the only brass I have is the ssd portal covers. Recommendations for tire/foam/beadlock wheels would be much appreciated. I run on rocks and dirt but not much deep mud. I also run in the wet a lot. Thanks!

@loum70084 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the great advice!!! My 2 recommendations are to skip the steel sliders and shim up the stock one. The steel was too heavy in New England and when side hilling the truck would slide down the hill. The other is to much more highly recommend overdrive. I've done front and rear and it's amazing. Trailing is fine, I'm not going super fast but that's not what the trx for is about. On that note, trx4 is not for high speed. 20mph is fun until you drive any other category vehicle. "Thanks a ton" love that!!!

I've had my TRX4-Sport for two months and love it like one loves a wonderfully obedient pet. I purchased it RTR and accessories so far have been the expedition rack, grill-headlight lenses and tailgate panel/lenses. I'm somewhat a recluse, I don't compete, and there is no 'Climbing' to speak of at my home's desert-scape rock garden necessitating the otherwise very attractive brass weighted portal covers. The Traxxas 'TRA2250' servo with 330in/lbs is, however, atop my wishlist of future upgrades.

Hello. I love your channel. I like your style of reviewing. I didn’t really care that much about crawling a few months ago but after watching and listening to your reviews I’m starting to get it. Might pick up a TRX4 Sport in the near future. One question: ofc covering crawlers is cool and all but do you think in the future you might start reviewing other type of cars? On road, drift, F1, buggy, sand rail, short course, etc? Would love to hear your take on those types and brands. Huge fan. Take care.

If u dont have the money to buy new tyres you can modify the traxxas stock ones. They are really good modified. Cut the small center lugs and every second of the big lugs also u can try dremmel the lugs so you make tracks in them to soften them up. But you need to replace the foams to dualstage ones that is really important if you want to crawl. Also a cheap way is to buy tyre weights and put them either on the bedlock ring if you have bedlock rims or around the portal house. Try glue with zipp band should work until you have the money for real brass weights.

While waiting for my TRX-4 Defender to arrive I watched this video to get an idea of what upgrades RC Review suggests. When the Defender arrived a week ago I immediately replaced the weak stock servo with a 25kg servo and put on a set of aluminum bead lock wheels mounted with Vanquish VXT tires. Rather than replace the stock ESC I decided to go brushless, and yesterday I installed a Hobbywing Fusion 1800kv motor/ESC combination. This morning I added the SSD brass portal covers to the front axle. I will probably replace the stock sliders and go with a low CG battery tray when my wallet recovers from the mods I've already installed. I do primarily trail running, so I won't be using overdrive gears.

Great as usual ! In our experience, the most important things are (in this order): - tires and foam (60%) - shocks and suspension calibration (20%) - battery position (10%, only considering central or front position, back is awful) - some frontal weight (only in some models, but battery in front is better than add weight to move in every situation) - bumpers adjust or removal (10%}

I have a TRX4 Sport (I’ve been into crawling for one year tomorrow) and a TRX4 Kit. I did the tire mod you showed us, and I’m fabricating my own lcg battery trays out of 0.02” aluminum. I ditched the ugly and huge bumpers from the kit, and added the Sport bumpers to it, and threw on a winch bumper from RC4WD and a custom tube bumper on the Sport. I have more mod ideas coming, I just need to get out into the shop and make them happen.

A very informative video! I've recently bought a TRX4 Sport kit. Pretty much as stock at the moment, apart from Amazon alloy beadlocks, hair buns in the tyres, a Hobbywing 1080 ESC & a Amazon 35kg servo (running at 7.4v). TX & RX is a Flysky GT5 (a bit overkill, but at least plenty of spare channels for lights etc).

I recommend getting wider wheel hexs as well. 8-9 mm hexs seem to work best. The suspension can still flex to it's limits, but still gives you a little bit of width to make it more stable. I run 8 mm brass hexs I found on eBay. Matched up with my aluminum bead lock wheels, it's a night and day difference.

@vansantsam4 жыл бұрын
Adding weight (even down low) can be tricky.. You really only gain with climbing, downhill may be worse and traversing across could be worse (puts too much weight on the sidewalls and causes them to fold under making things worse).. In my opinion the best way to add weight is to seal the vent in the tires (air tight), take out the foam, and add about 1.5 ounces of lead shot or BB's inside the tires (all the weight is pressing the tire against the ground).. It is a crawler and won't have adverse effects on tire balance, as the shot or BB's will roll freely inside the tire..
@traxxasJohn4 жыл бұрын
Your wheels and tires are the lowest point on the truck, so adding weight here gives the weight you do add more leverage. To add weight I went with gear head aluminium beadlock wheels. They look great, and add weight as low as possible.

I bought the TRX-4 to mount the killerbody gladiator. No bueno. Couldn’t make it come close. So I scored a defender body, added latest lighting and I guess next might be different wheels. Building a Mercury chassis and it’s a tragedy compared to the TRX-4. Agonizing build. Not quite there yet.

I am new to r/c crawling and I have a used TRX4 Sport. I found this older video which is very helpful. Some of the Proline short course tires only work well with Proline headlock wheels. Do you recommend any of the cheaper all aluminum wheels for the Hyrax? Thanks.

From what I have heard so far the foam inside of the wheels absorbs water like crazy thus adding some weight after driving through deep waters. Is that the case for all crawlers? This might be an additional load for steering mechanism of the truck, don't you think?
@tomasmartinez39363 жыл бұрын
Correct! They also almost never dry, best thing to do is seal up holes in the rims and if you have headlocks they’ll be waterproof. You can then run the tires with foams or without, I run without foams and used a gasket maker to seal the rims

For both trailing and crawling, lower the CG of the truck as much as possible. For the crawlers out there: 45/9, soft suspension, 62f/38r, and radical weight reduction everywhere. Low and slow!

Is it ok to run a standard trx4 receiver on 7.4volts from a 1080 esc please?

Yes, for sure. We are not sure if it is approved but we've had no problems. Now, if you have micro servos for the 2-speed tranny and locking diffs, it's not good for those servos.

@@RCReviewChannel Thank you very much for that, I still have the micro servos so will look for some higher voltage alternatives. Keep up the good work!
