Definitely need to include kubota - my zero turn diesel with 60 inch deck is a true workhorse that just “goes -goes-goes” . I use it on my farm cutting 6 acres of grass plus lot of rough fence line edges that I should use a tractor bush hog for - I added trailer hitch and it pulls a light trailer which often gets way to much weight for its rating but the kubota doesn’t seem to even notice. Service at dealer is top notch and they will send service truck out if requested - best of all when I sold the first kubota I owned I got more in resale than what I paid for it from a landscaper who was thrilled to get it - my replacement which is just a larger unit is 7 years, 3500 hours of trouble free operation, and still no hydraulic /engine or oil issues. I do change fluids more often than manual recommendation but so I spent an extra couple hundred dollars over the years - a small price compared to savings in trouble free operation. You definitely should add Kubota to your lists and also show prices for all the different machines

@mikerossman98637 ай бұрын
I have a ZD 21 and the only problem was the deck ram seal went out and leaked fluid pretty bad. It wasn’t a cheep fix b/c the dealer said it wasn’t “resealable” so I had to get a entire new ram that lifts the deck. Other than like you said changing fluids is about the only thing I’ve done along with greasing spindles and the drive shaft. Still on the original deck belt too. I use it, don’t abuse it, but it’s been no garage Queen either she will take way more than I can give it that’s for sure.

For sure Kubota and Gravely need to be added. I own a Ferris.Why? Suspension period.They all use the same hydraulics, engine and tire manufacturers. To me it came down to comfort. What I couldn't compare was the cutting ability. Speed is nice but you had better have razor sharp blades or the cut will look shaggy. I like ease of access to grease spindles etc.Choose your color, make sure you have dealer support for parts and maintain the unit. Every spring I inspect belts, change oil, change fuel filter, change air filters, clean battery terminals, change hydro oil and filters every 100 hours and grease everything that has a zerk fitting. Maintenance is the key regardless of make.

@martianshoes8 ай бұрын
I worked at a Stihl dealer - the zero turn roll out was not well planned. Word inside the industry is that Briggs & Stratton who owns Ferris, Simplicity, Snapper and the Murray name (since 2005) may end up being partially or wholly owned by Stihl soon. B&S was bought in 2020 by an investment group that reorganized the company into separate divisions one of which is turf. Also we hear that Snapper and Simplicity are going away. Husqvarna had been building Snapper units sold by retailers like Walmart. Seeing new Murray units in box stores; not informed who is building them.

Kubota being left off this list is a joke. Ive been mowing commercially for 30 years. I’ve had Dixies, John Deere, Exmarks, Scags Grasshoppers and Kubotas. Kubota outperforms them all and for reliability and longevity they’re is no comparison. I have a 2008 ZD326 Diesel that has 4300 hours on it and other than normal maintenance and new tires it has been a great mower. I have a 2013 same mower with 3400 hours in it and the same goes for it. I just recently purchased 2 48 inch stand in’s and so far so good. I perform maintenance in regular intervals and they look brand new. Even the 2008. In a one man operation for the most part and I don’t abuse my equipment. These mowers have made me a lot of money. I do have 2 Dixie’s that I use during the rainy season because you can cut grass during a torrential downpour and the cut quality looks like you mowed it dry. They’re also lighter weight and won’t rut the yards when they’re wet. Bad thing about Dixie’s are they are built for speed so they’re lightweight but don’t hold up as well. Bad thing about my Kubota diesels are they are heavy as a tank and it’s hard to not leave a divot on wet grass or grass that doesn’t have a thick root system. My 48 inch stand ons are what I bought to replace my Dixie’s when they finally go to the scrap yard. Kubota should have been either number 1 or 2 on this list. Ferris is probably number 1 but you can’t afford them and they can’t cut wet grass or the chute and deck get clogged.

Yep. I bought a new Grasshopper in 2006 for my personal 3-acre lawn. I also haul it to another state 5-10 times a year to mow 10 very rough acres. Has over 1400 hours and never been in the shop. Belts, oil/filters, grease, batteries, blades replaced as needed.
@lawngrowth9 ай бұрын
I’d agree with all of this. Grasshopper is extremely reliable, they last forever. Not a fan of the deck design and cut though. Just depends what matters to you the most

We love our Turf Tigers. They’re heavy, so use accordingly. Get out of that seat and get behind a walk behind when you need to. Just because we can mow a steep bank with a zero, doesn't mean we should. I see all those ruts out there.

Just saw this, they didn't even mention an Encore mower. They are monsters. I have had 1 for the past 22 years and with just regular maintenance hasn't been down ever. I retired 2 years ago and started helping a few people in my neighborhood that can't take care of their lawns anymore. I cut five yards a week for the last 2 years and it still hasn't let me down.

Are the stand up mowers easiest on the spine ? Or is a suspension platform zero turn batter ?
@lawngrowth9 ай бұрын
Yes, standing in general is better on the spine. Suspension/suspension platform are just better than fixed frame ZTRs

There is always another one ,if they demand Friday cut 15%extra on regular cut price if they ask why you say if it rains I’ll have cut on my day off

Sorry, trying to help here. Your first bookmark says Stihl Turf Tiger 2. :) Thought that was a SCAG? You state the Hustler is one of the fastest zero-turns on the market, it only does 14mph. I know of many more mowers that easily surpass that, one Cheetah II does 16mph, Bobcat does 19mph... etc. but I agree with you on the JDs :)
@lawngrowth7 ай бұрын
Thanks for letting me know! I fixed the bookmarks... didn't know I could do that lol. Regarding speed, true. I was talking about cutting speed. On the mowers you mentioned I think those speeds are in transport mode.
@LAWNandORDERTexas7 ай бұрын
Welcome! Transport or mowing at 16mph is doable if you have flat ground. I have a suspension seat on mine so I can mow full speed if I wanted too :) don’t know if I would want too though :)

Bad Boy Outlaw XP bought in 2016 to keep my 3 acres under control. I regularly mow 3 of my neighbors places also. Only thing I added was a bunch of lights so I can mow after dark during the hottest part of the summer months. Just routine maintenance, zero problems. 🫡

remember that Cub Cadet steering wheel zero turns are also good, with the idea of having 4 wheel steering and can go on hillsides easier and are easier to operate, knowing that there is no lap bars, and doesnt have such a tank like feeling and everyone knows how to use a steering wheel.

So my question is why there are so many big horsepower engine options. First of all, that's only half the equation because toque has a lot to do with how the mower will perform. I got out of the commercial mowing business years ago but still like to mow a few lawns and tinker with equipment. Currently I am "rehabbing" 2 Toro ZMaster 587L machines and one of its Laser Z cousins. The Toros have 27hp and the Exmark is 22hp but I see little difference in performance when it comes to mowing heavy grass. They all power through just fine. My one ZMaster has 12cc pumps and will move quite a bit faster than the Exmark with 10cc pumps, but there could be other variables I'm not considering, And honestly, you can only mow so fast on most yards due to size and terrain constraints. I can't wait to get my other ZMaster together to see how it compares to its brother and cousin. I got it with a broken wheel motor which I replaced and now am waiting on the rebuilt pump to be ready so I can get it all back together.

Thanks for the video know for my 2 sense. I was looking to replace my 2004 Ferris IS5000 with the Cat 33HP engine. I still cuts well, runs good, I guess I was just trying to upgrade, wanted something different. So my local Wright rep brought me a ZXT to demo. I have to say thing only thing it did better than my 20 year old mower was stripping, and that's because it was a side discharge and my Ferris is a rear discharge. As far as on concrete the Wright is a little faster, but even with their suspension platform it cannot mow at the same speed as the Ferris. Mostly because of the short wheel base of the Wright it is very bouncy and loses traction on hills at higher speeds. I am not saying it is not a great mower, just not any better than my Ferris.

When I worked for commercial company they tried out John Deere but their leaf vac’s were terrible and they had a lot more problems after the 2nd and 3rd year of use as opposed to the exmarks. Granted this was 5 yrs ago so they could have easily improved since then. Hands down the worst thing about was the leaf vac, everybody would get pissed if they got sent out with a John Deere for leaf removals.

I've got a WALKER and have owned it for 16 years. Here is what I have done to it other than wash/polish, annual oil changes, blade changeouts every three or four years and sharpening...NOTHING! Still on the original battery. The best element of my 48" Walker unit is the small control sticks between my legs that require only one hand (wrist control) Oops, forgot broke two shear pins.
