This is the best Brompton accessories video. Some really clever ideas. My only suggestion for better lights would be Bontrager RT lights. One on the seat post just below the seat, and the other right in the centre under the handlebars (The front light needs rotating inside it’s mount). The perfect Brompton lights setup.

Victor I was debating a kickstand as well, to get more use out of rack. I found the Minoura SLMV-1 Mini-Velo Stand on the internet. Cost about 65 Us Dollars. I just installed it. Very stable did not have the issues you found. Weighs 155gm. I did find it snapping in the up position, and hitting the rim of the back wheel. To stop that I wrapped velcro around the top of the kick stand, and secured with black electrical tape so it does not slide down. Could also use a dot of Crazy Glue, but I wanted to be able to get it off if I did not like it. Velcro tape stops the inward travel of Kickstand. Thanks for your work on behalf of us all. You made an engineer out of me!

I'll add two upgrades I find handy. 1. The Brompton's handlebars don't leave much room to mount gear such as a GPS. Search ebay for a "bike handbar extender." That'll let you add a 20 cm bar for accessories. 2. An Ibera PakRac Mini Commuter rack I had on a mountain bike fits the seat post on a Brompton perfectly. You can use it on its own or in addition to the lower-down Brompton rack. As a plus it can be used with Ibera's extensive line of quick-release bike bags at prices that are typically cheaper than Brompton-only ones.

@b.griffin317 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Please say more about the protective tape idea. Edit: I looked that up and it appears to be handlebar grip tape. The main objections I would have to that are: 1. Grip tape has a reputation of collecting moisture under it and rusting out metal parts. 2. It covers up the pretty paint job if you value the color of your Brompton (would be OK to cover some areas of high wear, but not most of the frame).

@@RidingBikesinSanDiego racks aren't for everyone though. I actually took it off my S6 as the constant rattling and meh aesthetics wasn't worth the occasional utility of putting things on the rack. This is a smaller, more convenient mirror for the Brompton: CatEye BM-45 Bar End Bike Mirror (£12.99) - fitting is the same as the one shown in this video. I been using it on my Brompton for 3 years. It has a very stiff ball-joint between the mount and the mirror to allow for precise positioning. If you knock it in transit it will move, if you wack it really hard (against a doorway for instance, it will 'pop off' and it's an effort to 'pop it' back on). There's no distortion, vibration or magnification. It sticks out about 2", doesn't effect "the fold" (I'm from the UK, we drive on the left, so it's on the right - non-floor-side when folded) Get one, it will make your cycling safer... at a glance, it'll let you see if it's a truck, bus, or car that's coming up behind you and trying to squash to into the gutter...
@EverydayCycling3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! The main problem I see is that I use the mirror on the other side, i.e. bar end is 1 inch from the ground... =/ would it work?

@@EverydayCycling I just checked, and it may not... (I've just corrected my comment) Without actually fitting it to 'your' side I couldn't say for sure, but it's movable by hand, you may be able to rotate (close it) it out of the way so it doesn't strike the ground...

Hi Victor, it’s Will from Chicago. I am interested in purchasing several upgrades for my Brompton such as the hinge clamps, seat post clamp, ez wheels, handlebar catch and several others. There are many options available for these but I am struggling with the color choices. I am totally colorblind and unable to distinguish colors from each other. My bike is a flame lacquer black edition. Because it is a black edition, my initial thought was to purchase all black upgrade components, but after considering this, I am wondering if it’s too much black. I’m thinking all the black might be boring. Most of the components are available in silver, gold, titanium color, and of course black. I am wondering which color you think would coordinate best with flame lacquer black edition. I realize this is personal taste, but for me everything is shades of gray. Hopefully you are familiar with the flame lacquer color and can offer some advice. If black really is the best, then it will help me to know. I appreciate you help and look forward to your response.

@@EverydayCycling different brand (“snowinspring”) but pretty much the same thing, was £18 on Amazon. Seems to be many brands with the same item. Must either all be from the same OEM or they’re all clones of each other I did mod it a little bit: cut the top of the mount into a V shape to fit around the bottom of the rack struts so I could take the wheel off more easily

Does the glue on the electrical tape get goopy in the hot and humid Georgia summer?
@EverydayCycling3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jerry, it did get goopy on my Kona, which I always park outside, but not on the Brompton. I believe long exposure to heat and the sun is what makes it kind of melt.

The mirror will touch the ground after installation in H6L model. The only solution is to upgrade from L to R. Even when you demonstrate folding handlebar with mirror it’s with rack installed.

The easy clamps may also be bought from AliExpress in a - better version with an internal metal spring, which I favor. And the small wheels are useless on anything but a very flat surface. I use larger wheels, lately I have ordered a 10 cm wheel size. And why a kickstand, when you are able to just fold the backframe, as a stand! Without the bag, of course.

He wants the kickstand so he can leave luggage on the rack yet keep it upright without riding it. He said this in the video.

What kind of rear rack do you have ?
@EverydayCycling3 жыл бұрын
That's the rear rack from Brompton. They sell it separately.

Great video - as always :-) just got the EZ Clamp springs, an invisible but very nice little upgrade (Brompton should consider making a deal with the developer and make it a standard component)...

that's a neat product, thanks for mentioning it

What about bag holder just under the seat? But not on seatpost.

How tall are you? Just want to imagine myself riding the bicycle before getting one.
@BrookValentine3 жыл бұрын
I can tell you that I'm 5'10" or 175cm tall, and I use the standard seat pole at full height. But... I remove the seat and turn the mounting bracket upside down, making the seat "overslung" not underslung as it were, and that gives me an extra inch and a bit height, perfect for me and leg extension without locking my knees on the down stroke. Tweaking the fore-aft angle of the seat helps too, so for a while carry the Allen key for the seat so you can adjust it on your first rides. If you're a 6 foot plus person, you can order the bike with the extra high or extended seat pole.

I'm 6'0 on the Brompton electric, and I manage to get full leg extension.

I’m 6’3 (~36 inch inseam) so I have the telescopic seat post. Would recommend a test ride before you buy.

Did you put the rack and wheels off your original bike because you're leaving that new rack with the wide wheel set on your old bike?
@EverydayCycling3 жыл бұрын
You mean the GOrack? I'll keep it on the standard Brompton, yes.
