Note: This highly depends on your company and industry. When in doubt, check with your HR department and err on the more formal end of business casual.

M-A-N-Y years ago I started my career at a Fortune 50 company. As you point out, money was dear and I skimped on shoes figuring no one would care or notice. I was 100% wrong. I was teased daily about shoes and belts. A very embarrassing situation I was helped out of by my bosses boss. He arranged a meeting with his tailor who guided me to a $500 pair of wingtips. I gulped as my salary was $24,000! Danny the tailor helped me with a payment schedule 👍. My first vice president level presentation I wore my $500 shoes. The VP walked in, we all stood, he noticed and said "Nice shoes". I felt like a zillion bucks, nailed the presentation and ended up spending $10,000/year with Danny the tailor as my income allowed. Best help I received was don't skimp on shoes, belts, watched and fabrics. They will last your entire career, should you learn to care for them. Excellent advice.

Thank you for sharing. That's such a cool story and proves my point :) I wonder if it's still as relevant today as it was back then, but I assume it depends on the industry and company?

Great video, some of the lessons I picked them up from experience. I found tweed sportjackets like Bladen for 11£ in charity shops and their quality is so much better than modern ones and still having a modern look.

Thank you :) That's a great find for just 11£ :)

Another great video with great tips. At my workplace there’s no real dress code and people tend to wear just graphic T-shirt and jeans or shorts. I dress to a business casual level but the lack of a dress code allows me to take some liberties (like wearing dark coloured jeans etc.) to help change up my outfits each day.

Thank you, Alex :) That's great. With jeans you can get really creative.

NIce. About dress sneakers. The main give away is the white or cream colored soles. However you still may want the comfort and slip resistance in a dress shoe. Look for dress sneakers with thin profile black rubber soles. Alternatively you make take your formal leather soled dress shoes to a shoe cobbler and have them add rubber sole protectors, or if they are GoodYear welted shoes have them replace the entire leather sole for a rubber sole. Besides better comfort, you will also get better life, slip resistance, and wet weather protection.

Thank you. Great point. My preferred choice would be #2 and maybe some comfortable insoles as well.

Good advices Lukas ! Where I work most people even the oldest weir running or hiking shoes with graphic t-shirt and jeans, only some employees in HR, legal, finances departments are well dressed, I think that like mentionnend in the description it really depends on the sector the company works.

Lukas, excellent tips. The tip pertaining to quality shoes, and sports coats, is spot on. Too many men, young men, are wearing low quality shoes in the U.S. today. On top of that, too many men aren’t maintaining their shoes. Conditioning, and polishing, one’s dress shoes is mission essential. As important as bathing regularly and making sure one’s nose is mucus free 😅. Seriously, attention to detail is a 21st Century Leader’s…leadership trait. P.S. Men should not be afraid to buy quality shoes from the Factory seconds section of a store. Allen Edmonds factory seconds, for example, are very nice and usually heavily discounted.

Thank you :) I somehow got my hands on a pair of Allen Edmonds in Germany, even though they are quite rare over here. Excellent shoes. Great tip with the factory outlet 👌 I condition my shoes regularly but I need to work on the polishing part 😁 Have a great Sunday 🙏

Another great video, my friend. The only point I disagree with is on belts- they don't always need to follow your shoe colour. I often wear them in the trouser colour (if I wear belts at all- I prefer side adjusters) so that they blend into the trouser. That way I don't have this contrasty line cutting my silhouette in half :)
@Lukas_Schanderl6 ай бұрын
Thank you, Simon. Ah that's also an interesting approach. That way it blends a lot better. Do you have belts in navy and grey?
@SimonChambers6 ай бұрын
@@Lukas_Schanderl It's a trick I picked up from Sartorial Talks. I have a woven blue and white belt that I wear with denim. But almost all of my trousers are side adjusters, so I don't wear belts much :)
@Lukas_Schanderl6 ай бұрын
I prefer side adjusters, as well, but I started to really like the current trend with slim western belt. Still need to find a good one :)

@@Lukas_Schanderl I don't pay any attention to trends, so haven't seen that one :). I wouldn't mind getting a nice braided leather belt, but it's not a desperate need for me.

I like your advice and I wish that men cared more about good style instead of following the herd into overly casual comfort clothing. I suggest that after hours men should consider their appearance. For instance, I went to an art show this Saturday. I wore tan wingtip shoes, stone color chinos with cuffs and pleats and a coral long sleeved linen shirt. I was the best dressed. That doesnt say much to the current state of American society if a simple outfit like mine outshines the rest of the men at the art show.

Thank you, William. You're right. Unfortunately, it's not too much different in most parts of Europe, either. But maybe we can encourage others to follow suit :) PS: Sounds like a great outfit 👌
