7 Button Shy Games I Love

I've got a handful of games of Naturopolis in. It's probably the easiest of the three, but it mixes up the formula a lot more, and when you consider the Combopolis expansions, makes for a more or less unlimited amount of content for the series. I'll be curious to see how you feel about it. I find that adding in the Nessie expansion definitely tightens up the scoring requirements a lot for those who want more challenge out of it.

Naturopolis seems like the most flexible of the three. You have more ways to score, but harsher road/river penalties. You also have the extra camp scoring goals, which are like a streamlined version of the feed fees of Agropolis.

That is interesting. I have kept 6 of these same button shy games. I ended up not keeping circle the wagons because I don’t play a lot of two player games and there is a computerized version Happy Meeple. I play the rest of these as solo only. I am excited about the new Royal Limited.

I adore Skulls of Sedlec. Have all the expansions and it is always a great time.

looks like multiplayer solitaire in 2p mode, the worst kind of game design. Perhaps interesting as a solo puzzle though.

Yes, but it makes expansions harder and harder to fit

From what I hear, it's not for everybody, but I really like Ragemore. Better for me than circle the wagons or rove (or unsurmountable).

I'd love to get more button shy games but they're hard to come by in Canada. Only a few retailers carry them. Ordering directly from button shy would only be worth it if I got a whole bunch of games. Sadly many of their games are out of stock. I got Tussie Mussie last year but I found it just ok. I picked up An Otter Won and think it's good fun.

Even worse to get here in Ireland but they sell the PnP pdfs cheaply so you can make yourself. A simple colour printout and laminate and it works really well. Round cutter for the corners.

They give you more options on how easier/difficult you want the game to be. A few of the expansions are just more sea animals (helpers) or birds (basically objective cards) but others are just more animals to add to the grid as a whole. They even come with guides for different grid setups to incorporate the new cards. TLDR: they add more variety to stop the game becoming repetitive.

Am I the only one who thinks button shy is so overrated and overpriced, selling small games frequently on ks for that kind of price plus shipping. I backed for northwood which is a small solo game and I love it, reasonably priced with quality pvc cards

Yes, I picked up on that, as well. I'm a huge fan of For Northwood(!) and also Shadi Torbey's solo games (e.g. Onirim, Aerion, Castellion, Nautillion, etc.). They cost $15-$25, but they pack a whole lotta game in there. Button Shy is technically cheaper, but it's literally just 18 cards (doesn't mean it can't be a great game, though). I can pick up a regular deck of cards (something high quality like Bicycle) for $3-$7 and that's FIFTY-FOUR (54) cards! They're definitely making bank on this by selling them at $10 a copy. The expansions are even worse because they're often times just 1-3 extra cards, but is charged in the same price range. I think Button Shy has hacked the market by offering super-portable and minimalistic board games (fits in a wallet) much cheaper than most other board games. However, if you're considering VALUE in terms of cost vs components, it's not there. They're successful because they're some of the cheapest board/card games you can buy (and some of the ideas are pretty clever), but I find that I have trouble pulling the trigger on ordering the physical product (their PnP prices are decent, though, but you have to print them out yourself). Also, their website only really has a few games in stock at any given time even though they release a new one each month (I think). I was initially going to do some research and then maybe buy 10 at a time so I am not murdered by shipping, but they never have everything I want in stock. Don't get me wrong, I do have some of their games, but I have only ever pay for the PnP editions (and even then, I usually wait for them to go on sale during a reprint campaign lol).
