From someone who bought his first cassette tapes back in 1973, if it wasn't for your channel, there'd be so many tapes that I would not have seen, nor heard of. It is the reason that many enjoy this channel Tony, cheers.

A type 0.7 maybe? Probably a good tape for the boombox at a party. 🎉 I hear some new contemplation music too. No doodeedoos today.

Hi I don't have this cassette, nor a reference for the shell used. But it looks to be well made, it's just been marred by time, just because of the drop in treble. I also occasionally get the same cassettes where the Bias and Treble response settings are very different, just due to age and different storage. Some Tape decks can handle it better or worse, some auto calibrations can achieve a satisfactory bias, but it's very much at the expense of performance and distortion in the low frequencies. The Technics ATC doesn't always get it right, but the Pioneer BLE XD is interesting. Regards EZ

I remember James Yorke cassettes being used a lot in my primary and secondary schools back in the mid 1980s. There was a lot of them. A very familiar looking tape for me. I remember blue and white labels aswell. Probably C60 versions. I don't remember ever seeing them for sale in shops at all though.

How do you know what they look like?
@michaelturner4457 Жыл бұрын
The police interview cassettes I've seen, made by NEAL, were actually labelled as "Interview Cassette", and only had the label on one side only. Because they'd only be recorded on one side, and then sealed as evidence.

*I think James Yorke is the older brother of that bloke from Radiohead?? It might explain the lo-fi aesthetic and occasional odd performance.* 😉

James Yorke used to do tape reproduction/duplication, including home computer games back in the 70s and 80s. Friends Mum used work there.

This tape makes me reflect upon what you said in yesterday's video. While not total rubbish, this not a brilliant cassette, it clearly has limitations, but you've done a decent recording on it, whereas with a deck with no calibration capabilities all would have probably been a trainwreck, maybe to the point to tag this as type zero. As you mentioned, you can't stress the importance of a quality deck too much.

Hey Tony, I am a real tapehead and I love your videos. I own 7 decks myself and always hunting cassettes. Do you have a Technics chrome Tape? I just can’t get my hands on one of those. I got some metal ones and they sound really good on my Dragon. Even on the RX 202E they perform. You got some lovely decks I saw. 👍 really good stuff. I got an Dragon, 680 ZX, RX 202, Technics RS671, Marantz Mod. 5000 and for daily a Onkyo TA 2640. Do you review tapedecks too? Would love to see such a video. Best regards Jens from Germany

I had a look myself and the only thing I could find was James Yorke Magnetics on companies house. Appears to have been part of a larger conglomerate based in Cheltenham. But it was incorporated in 1980 and seems to have been dissolved around the early 90s. Not the best tape in the world but could be worse. Makes me think the tape WAS made in the UK lol.

Nice series of these that I’ve never heard of before. Just curious about how you personally store your cassettes? Do you use something like a Laserline holder or just boxes? Wondering since it’s a subject I have not seen discussed on your channel before. Thanks beforehand if you get to answering. I know your busy :)

I use Really Useful Box 4 Litre boxes. You can get around 40 cassettes correctly stored vertically. I have my sealed NOS stored underneath in my ottoman bed. The used ones are in the Really Useful Boxes which can be stacked pretty high. I liked the idea of the Ikea Helmer for ones that have been recorded on are in playback use.
