I drove a C5 vette for best part of 2 years. Drove it 6 days a week to work and back. Countless club events. Despite being a lhd 5.7ltr v8 It did better mpg than my 2008 focus ST. Was cheaper on road tax and insurance an 2 seconds quicker to 60. I will buy another as soon as they fix the roads I drive to work on.

The P38 is actually pretty reliable, if you get the 2.5 tds BMW-sourced engine, the coil suspension and the 4 speed automatic ZF box. Yes, it's a slow pig, but it's one of the most reliable Range Rovers from all time.

Here's another one: BMW Z3 roadster. It's a roughly 20 year old (depending on what you buy) BMW, so it's cheap to buy, but suprisingly people seem to think it's very expensive. And if you buy one now, you can look even richer in a couple years once the prices go up enough (for those who don't know, Z3 enthusiasts have seen an increase in prices lately).

I have an e46. I can confirm that people who aren't car experts have thought it to be over twice as expensive than I paid for it. And pretty much everyone thinks it's 5 years old, when it's actually a 15 years old car. Also since nothing has shown any signs of braking down yet, I can say that it was worth way more than what it costs. It looks luxurious, it sounds and feels sporty, and it can go sideways. It's just pure win to buy an e46 now. Unless you buy one with a cracking subframe. Or if you break it yourself. So just check the damn thing before buying, and reinforce the problem spot if you plan on driving more aggressively (aka drifting and launching the car).

Even the base Corvette C5 is a thrill. The base suspension is so damn close to being as great as the BMW M3 of the time, which means ridiculously great handling for so little money. Not to mention the LS1. A reliable performance V8 that can last 100,000's of miles even if pushed. Of course the Z06 is the ultimate value that can out handle and outrun almost anything, but they tend to hold their value much more than the base ones.
