@andredeketeleastutecomplex you can still have hair, you don't have to shave it, but you can trim it here and there, you know, make it a bit more pleasant for whoever ends up in that area. Trust me, if a woman goes down on you she doesn't want any overgrown pubes getting inside her nose tickling her brain. It's like having a beard, you can have disorderly pubes on your face, or you can have it look nice, clean and well maintained.

@@stratman9449 Proctor & Gamble back in the late 1960s recognized that even "bad" publicity is just as effective as "good" publicity. I haven't seen the actual commercial, and I'm not at all certain that commercials are even an effective means these days. But the muscle/sports/super/hyper car market is so saturated with competitors that aren't all that different. So taking a great leap into a completely new design language and trying to get publicity to introduce themselves to a radically different demographic is a brave and innovative strategy. I personally have no idea if the culture group they are trying to connect with exists ("avant garde" urban elite social butterflies with highly ambiguous identities? I'm guessing). But I assume they did some market studies and found an untapped customer social group. Somehow I'm reminded of the New York artist/druggie Andy Warhol-fan subculture displayed in the movie Urban Cowboy, and the Vogue magazine readers. If they can find 10,000 people with the money and the style, maybe they've given themselves a nice market segment. Of course it ain't the D-Type, but it might work

I think the identity crisis was the time, when they made the x-type (Ford Mondeo), the modern retro S-Type (Lincoln LS), which were just horrible run-of-the-mill cars. And cut the EV nonsense-they're not environmentally sound, convenient to use, or cheap to buy and run. Modern cars, both EVs and ICE vehicles, are too big and heavy, have giant LCD screens, and physical buttons are replaced with distracting virtual touch-screen buttons hidden deep in pages-long context menus, driver aids, and safety measures for every inconceivable irrelevance. When they first came out, I bought a MK2 8-valve Golf GTi (big bumper). It had no driver aids; all buttons were physical; it was lightweight, small yet roomy, economical when driven sensibly, cheap to maintain, and practical and stylish. It wasn't particularly fast, having only 112 hp, but what fun it was to drive: nimble, zippy, and stuck to the road like poop on a blanket. It was a real seat-of-your-pants driving experience. Utterly exhilarating. Modern cars do not offer the same raw excitement and simplicity of travel.

You should look up how bmw is marketing the XM for example. It's very similar to what Jaguar is doing.

FUN FACT: (this is not really a fun fact, but you committed to reading now) i will say their new branding is wholeheartedly nonsense, but hopefully, they follow the trend of "concepts" and just take design ques from the concept rather than building that exact car. the split light design in front looks okay, the fastback rear shape looks good, the grill is managable condering the inflation of grill sizes. i think if they put all those into one car, it has the potential to be a great vehicle, but jag being jag, we just have to wait and see, i guess.

Jaguar's total global market share, in car new car sales, is so small that it's name isn't even on the list. Its just lumped in with the _"other_ _brands"_ category at the very bottom. Jag has nothing to lose. No customer base, no brand loyalty, no adoring fans, nothing. So, it doesn't matter what most people say because there's a 99.999% chance that those people arent customers and never intended to be customers.

The issue is, based on the advert. The people jaguar are selling to, cannot afford the car as it's supposed to be a premium product. Jaguar has no introduction product, example. Mercedes has the A,B class, bmw has the 1 series, Tesla has the model 3. VW has the golf. Audi has the A1. the introduce people who don't have very much money to your product and hopefully their next upgrade is a higher end version of your product.

All I know about Jag is that ever since I'm interested in cars (I'm 30 so since around the early 2000s) it was a secondary choice at best, a British car manufacturer that used to be good. They couldn't make it under Ford, they couldn't make it under Tata (while Land Rover is doing pretty well even with their reliability issues), and for every good model they had 5 bad or unremarkable ones. Even if I wanted European but not the mainline German options, or just aimed directly at British cars, I'd rather get a car from any other brands than Jag. Not sure if this rebrand is the solution but after so much time they need something bold like this to make it and get at least some press out of this. One last big effort all or nothing, if it doesn't work out, just let them die and remember their heritage. And as weird their rebrand is, I'm oddly optimistic about it, in fact this is the main thing I'm looking forward in the near future when it comes to the car industry.

Honestly, this ultimately boils down to being a problem with the massive forced migration to EVs. EVs are much harder to add personality to because yes, they have less moving parts which is good for maintenance, but it’s no good for creating a competitive product. This is honestly what I see happening to most manufacturers unless either A: Porsche has their way and makes atmospheric petroleum harvesting the standard or B: we finally admit that it should’ve been hydrogen and not EVs

The quality isn't there, electronics are buggy, cost of maintenance, and ride height are amongst some of the quips people often disagree with when it comes to this SUV.
