Here are 7 Chiang Mai Apartments That I've Actually Lived In.
People continue to ask me what is the best and cheapest apartment deal in Chiang Mai?
During my stay, I have stayed in 7 different apartments/condos. Here is a review of all of the apartments that I've previously stayed in.
What I thought about them, and whether or not, I would recommend you stay in them as well.
The most common question asked is "Brett where can I find a Thai style apartment like yours?"
Mine was originally found via Air BnB so I would suggest using the link below to check out their website.
If you liked the video, please give it a thumbs up and comment below if you have any questions about the apartments.

Very sensible vid. I have lived in in CM since 2001 as a retired person. I lived in 4/5 places short term before I found a decent 6 month stay. Then I found a better place and by paying 1 year in advance got the rate cut from B8K to B7K / month. I got to know many Thai friends in the 2years I stayed there and when having inherited some money I let my Thai friends know I was looking to buy a cheap place under 1 million baht. A girl I knew had just completed her Masters Degree and the girl she was living with was selling her ‘Condo’. I obtained name of respected lawyer and she arraigned for me to buy my own place, very cheap back-in 2003. You will have to live and learn, Thai’s are normally good folk, but as everywhere take care, avoid any negative folk. John

Those are some interesting locations. Green Hill seems to have a great view of Doi Suthep. The place you live now looks like it is in the middle of the jungle! I live in Santitham at the moment, but I found seeing different parts of the city quite interesting.

Great video Brett, thanks! FU residence seems like a good starting point. Close to the center of the city etc. It looks like finding a Thai apartment via AirBnB, and then maybe discussing alternative payment with the owners might be a good idea to snag a better rate. Do most if not all of these places include free WiFi? Thanks 🙏🏼

Great suggestions. Saved me some time thinking:). I picked Green Hill, Because it is close to MAYA and it is in walking distance of Go GYM(I am into workouts more than coworking right now:)). I like it so far. The only weird thing is the 10k rooms have a sink on a balcony:))
@blorg8206
@blorg8206 7 жыл бұрын
>the 10k rooms have a sink on a balcony That's the "kitchen", where you would wash up your plates and cutlery, it's common enough. Even places that don't have a sink installed you will probably notice if you look on the balcony there will be both a tap and a drain hole there should you want to add one.

Do you have any recommendations for finding a decent place in the ($300-$500) range for places equipped with internet modems for LAN capabilities. For my digital nomad job I can't rely on merely WiFi. I'm having trouble finding places other than AirBnB. Thanks for your time mate! Great video. Cheers!

Hi Brett thanks for the vids. Can I ask a couple of questions, feel free not answer , I’ve got a good job and good business back in UK. I’ve traveled a little to Thailand and Vietnam etc , I can’t help but love the countries and people and way of life, I’m torn between moving out and living there but I’d have no income and would be leaving my business behind . I also have thought of the option of keeping my business and maybe holidaying once a year for a few months , I’m not sure if this would work how i imagine , but maybe it would . Do you have a advice Thanks Dean

Thnx Brett for sharing those interesting informations. Is that still the place you're living in? I was told, when people stay for long time in Thailand they usually start with the very cheap Apartments / condos / what ever and the longer they're there, the better and more expensive way of accomodation they go for. Are you an exception? :) Me personally I intend to first stay in places like you show in this video during my first month. But then, depending on if my business will run like I planned, I'll go for renting a house for like 15k Bahts for the next few months. And then, still IF my business will develop as I want it, I'll go for a big house with pool for like 30 or even 60k Bahts per month. What is your way? Greetings from Switzerland.

Just moved to Green Hill for my first month in CM and will stay for another, but I think I can find a better apt for the same price. You're right about the retired ex-pats esp the Brits who complain constantly about how CM is not like England and how the Thais should be doing things like they do in GB. It's like living in a retirement home. I'll definitely be moving when this next month is up.

NIce video, I will be in Chiang Mai in a couple of days for a month or so, just cant decide where to stay; Baan Thai Appartments or Huay Kaew Residence. Stayed in Huay Kaew Residence before but the pool in Baan Thai Appartments looks much bigger and nicer. I will be swimming a lot. Also the internet in Baan Thai Appartments is unknown to me. Do you know these two places and if so your thoughts please.

Does it get much cheaper as you go a little north of the city ? I’m into mountain biking , will be bringing my bike with me , so may suit me to live closer to the mountain where the mtb trails are , and have a motorcycle to go into the city . Will need to do more research on that .

Green Hill has no contract. Do you have to pay one month deposit? Plus the rent? Or you just pay the one month rent? I like condo with swimming pool. Maybe you could do cheap condo with swimming pool for your next videos. Thank you.

I pay 3500 a month with air con, balcony and a great view of Doi Suthep 3 minutes to the old city, very quiet through the day and night. Yeah, you have to pay water and elec in every condo. Condo WiFi generally is always sketchy. A lot of condos have a fast enough connection but crap hardware that can't support multiple users. It drops out a lot. You can always have an AIS sim card in your phone as back up. In Surisuwan and Fu Residence I had a fixed line put in.
@covfefe5156
@covfefe5156 6 жыл бұрын
Just about all the condos advertise wifi but they all suck. It's just marketing so they can say they have free wifi. I have AiS telephone service and added a hot spot to my phone for 500 THB/mo. I run my laptop wireless off my phone hot spot. My speed tests show 4.2 down and 4.1 up. Carrying my own hot spot, I've got acceptable speed where ever I go.

@brett_dev
@brett_dev 7 жыл бұрын
I speak a little Thai, you don't need to speak it in order to get by. However, I'd recommend learning as much as you can so you don't look ignorant. Especially if you're going to stay here, it'll go a long way.
@DanHarville

Thanks for the response Brett. I was 2 years in Thailand as a teenager and had a handle on it about 18 months in country. The concern for me is my wife, who speaks English and French... but not one word of Thai. I didn't want her to feel as alienated as I did when I first got to Thailand and thought to myself "What have I done coming here?"

There is a new visa that I am going to get that is only offered in ChiangMai--a Self Defense Visa that is good for one year and is renewable four times. The only requirement is that I take self defense classes twice a week, two hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. They will be flexible to allow me to miss classes for travel. It comes with multiple entry documents. The company offering the classes does all the paper work and the immigration office visits. All this for only 35,000 baht a year. That covers everything--the visa costs and the self-defense course. At the end of the year, the final exam will be in a Muay Thai ring in the Old City. That last part is not true. There will be no tests and learning Thai will not be required which is with the Education Visa.
