These are very commonly spoken by native speakers of English because in some of these words, we can't hear the sounds clearly. For example, in "supposed to," the -ed ending blends into the next word, so we can't hear it. Great lesson! 👍

Is it 'dirt cheap' or 'dead cheap'? Out of research, I understood that 'dirt cheap' is correct but 'dead cheap' can also be correct as the word 'dead' refers to 'very' in British English. Which one is the correct one?

Unfortunately there are some mistakes in the answers as well. For instance, "I better be going" is not correct, and should be "I'd better be going", and you can point the finger AT someone, but not ON someone. And please, unless you are in America, don't use the contraction "gonna", it should be "going to"(it's incorrect in America, too, but is much more acceptable there). To be fair, I think that quite a lot of language usage is different in American English and British English, so whether my input is important or not will depend on where you live. Many usages of English language are perfectly acceptable in America but very much frowned on in the UK.

What I learnt so far was, Anyways is usually preferred for informal practises and Anyway for a formal one. Not sure if mentioning it as to be 'incorrect' gives a good idea?
@englishlab1957
@englishlab1957 3 жыл бұрын
Yes bro, the usage is quite common in American English.
@LittleOldGHLady
@LittleOldGHLady 3 жыл бұрын
In British English it is most definitely incorrect to say 'anyways'. How much it matters will depend on whether you're talking informally or formally, of course. It will also depend on which country you're in. I presume that this lady is in America because people don't usually use them here in the UK.
