53 here. I got a scooter a few years ago just to run around the neighborhood but it got stole. Went to replace it and made the mistake of sitting on a real bike while at the dealership. Now I have a motorcycle with no license. Took it out for a test ride this week. 50 mph is faster than I care to go on just 2 wheels. I don't plan on riding anymore now than I did with my scooter. Starting to think that getting a license is more trouble than its worth considering how infrequently I'll be riding.

Also wanted to add that motorcycling can be cost effective if you make it so. I'm not the type of person who cares about mods and I get gear on a small budget. Also, base coverage insurance for the motorcycle as a primary saves a ton of money if you consider a new bike versus an old car for the same amount of money. Sure, cars are extremely convenient, but bikes really are cheaper if you're not about treating it like an expensive hobby. Places like India have tons of motorcyclists as necessity transportation, whereas it's seen as a luxury here. Just think about what you buy lol.

I just wanted to write that aswell. My bike costs less than 100€/month including everything and it's not even a cheap one. Thats not even half as expensive as a very cheap car. Also you save a lot of time. Like really A LOT. I save around 30 min per day to go to uni if I take the bike instead of the car +5€/day parking fees. So if you add opportunity cost and stuff like that, a really nice bike is around 350€/month cheaper than a really shitty car.

@@ichkommentiernurkommentare7237 My car is a 2011 Ford Fiesta and cost $4,800. I got it like 7 months ago and it has so many issues that didn't become apparent until 3 months into owning it. My insurance is upwards of $300 per month and I feel like I'm going to break down like everyday. Bought a 2021 Kawa Ninja 400 in December for the same $4,800 and insurance wouldn't be more than $40 a month for bare minimum coverage. It's obvious what the better choice is here LOL us college students can't afford cars, too much work. Motorcycles are more dangerous but I would say they're definitely cheaper.

There are problems with some of these, Yammie. Point 1) "No one cares" is too strong. Some people care. My significant other really, really cares. Just got the bike and she's already planning multi-day cross-country road trips on it. I mentioned it to acquaintances, people I only know because they work at a restaurant I eat at, and they asked me to bring it in so they could see it and ask about it. People differ. 2) Motorcycles are obviously cheaper than cars. Come on. The insurance is less, the gas requirements are lower, and most maintenance can be done in your garage with normal tools, and you can get a brand new simple bike suitable for daily around-town needs for less than $5k. You slide over into saying that most people really have both cars and motorcycles, so the motorcycle is an extra 'toy,' but that's not the argument you started with. You started saying motorcycles were not cheaper than cars. They clearly, obviously are. 5) You specifically point out that effective helmets can be cheap... after using expensive helmets as a piece of evidence for point 2. Which is it? This probably comes across as nitpicking, but I'm still salty about your 'debunking the myth' that loud bikes are more easily heard in traffic because Doppler effect. First, I've personally avoided an accident driving a car because I heard a bike I couldn't see. It obviously helps. Second, frequency != amplitude. The Doppler effect is about perceived frequency. That particular piece of disinformation has now propagated throughout the newbie motorcycling universe, and I get lectured about it by people who have never so much as set foot into a physics lecture (I'm an engineer, btw...) because they heard on the Internet it was a 'debunked myth.'

I'd like to add 7 to your list. Despite the "masculine" professions (soldier, firefighter, bodyguard, soon to be PD) I've held and my fairly risky hobbies ranging from chasing tornadoes to hunting dangerous game, I've lost girls to guys who simply rode a motorcycle. They didn't have anything else going for them, didn't have accolades, didn't ever lead other men, didn't do anything aside ride a bike. I didn't have any interest in bikes due to the wrecks I'd seen and apparently that got taken as weak. Yeah, weak followers I got ahold of, however, point is, you can still pull girls with bikes because of the illusion that society has placed on them and their riders.

While i don't think most people can can replace a car with a motorcycle, it can work great as a second vehicle in place of a second car. This has worked great for my wife and I. I typically drive to work in the car, while she works from home. On days she needs to drive into the office, or other errands, I take the motorcycle into work. Without the motorcycle we would be required to have a second car we would rarely use. I can relate to getting those Indian, Taiwanese and Chinese motorcycle's brands here in south east asia market. I get it that owning a motorcycle as compare to a car is a lot cheaper. But, as you use motorcycle as a daily ride, spending can get escalated quickly. You won't notice how often a bike required a maintenance untill you own the 150cc bikes. A typical modern car can take 4 liters of engine oil and go beyond 8000km of milage. While those bikes require 8 bottles of motorcycle engine oil over same distance. While at it, the chain drive and sprocket set shall be replaced once already. Same goes to all filters (air, fuel, oil). Over time, the cost is adding up. Within 60 000km, you bike shall getting an engine overhaul once or twice already. Then, you need new pair of suspension and have spent on multiple pair of tires already. So, take my word. Even if owning a cheap 150cc bikes will make you spend a lot if, your living depend on it as means of transportation.

Don't fight for your lane placement, just accept that drivers will drive like they're privileged and keep lots of stopping/reacting distance, and ride directly next to cars only when absolutely required of you, and even then, have a plan in case they change lanes suddenly.

There will always be aspects beyond your control, car, bike, or buss. But when you are constantly taking risks, that is what people base their opinions on. My mother thought scuba was dangerous. But in all the deaths, the causes are usually easy to see. Diving beyond training or drug and alcohol.

For us Dutch people here a motorcycle is much much cheaper than a car. Not just the purchase of the vehicle. Insurance is €15 instead of €50/month, taxes are €10 instead of €50/month and if you can do your own maintenance it's cheaper as well. Conclusion, get a motorcycle!
@Assking93
@Assking93 2 жыл бұрын
#2 depends on which country you are living in. A freak example is Taiwan. If you ride motorcycle there, the cost would be really really really low. The total commuting cost (Insurance & tax included) would be 10-20% of a car if it's under 250cc, 20-50% if it's between 250 and 550cc, 50-75% if it's under a liter & not using crazy sticky sports tyres. But if you are into modding your bike, you could become broke as hell easily. That crazy country even have loans targeted for car/bike modding.

Learning to ride, like anything else, is best done by just doing it. Watch a video to get a basic understanding of how a clutch and manual transmission work if you're not already familiar, understand the sequential shifting pattern, and just start the bike and go. My journey from non-rider to rider started with a 1998 Kawasaki KX125 that I bought on FB Marketplace for $600 cash and a Glock 17. I rode it in the woods behind my house for a few weeks until I felt comfortable shifting through all the gears, braking, and accelerating hard and fast. Shortly after buying it I sold it cheap and bought a 2004 GSXR 750. The minute it was delivered I started it up and rode out to Laconia for bike week. Took my first few turns slow and extremely wide, not really trusting the bike to lean yet, and almost dropped the bike once. On straights and long roads I'd give her quite the bit of throttle and I hit 120mph, which felt insane to me at the time, especially with how quick I reached that speed. I rode every single day after that and my heart would start racing every time I sat on the bike for a good three weeks or so. I put in about 8,000 miles in my first season (bought the bike in June and my last ride was in December so six months) and had learned more than I could have ever imagined. The next season I bought a brand new 2019 CBR1000RR and I've been rocking socks on it ever since. I am the squid they tell you about.

I'm riding my first real motorcycle a v-star 950 cruiser, even tho for years I've owned and rode a 200cc Piaggio scooter, for 19 years, that required me to get a motorcycle license to ride. and in all these years I've never had the desire to speed and still do not have that desire, even tho I'll admit I love the extra power and torq that the Vstar has. I just enjoy the ride, the feel of being a part of the Universe and not just a passenger! their is certain cathartic feeling I get from riding. If I'm feeling stressed I go for a ride and the stress just seems to melt away!

A lot of my riding is too and from work. I have several bikes on deck but recently I picked up a nicely mod'ed DRZ 400sm. I can have more fun at lower speeds and in my helmet. I'm 16 again.... although slightly chubbier than I was about 40 years ago. In my opinion. A passenger ruins a nice sport bike. I have a couple of bikes that will carry a passenger in a little more comfort. If you're trying to "do her", best not to scare her.😎 In other words. If you want to take a girl, or in my case, a lady. Get a bike with a proper seat for her and an upright riding position.✌️

Motorcycles are cheaper than cars of equivalent performance and build quality everywhere in the world, period. Even if you throw in the need to wear gear, insure, maintain, pay taxes etc. I'd continue buying a Yamaha Tricity over a Corolla, or a H2R over a Veyron, whether I'm in Jakarta or London.

@@ReizePrimus my point wasn't that motorcycles are cheaper than cars in Asia, it was that many Asian nations operate motorcycles much more than cars because they are cheaper. In developing nations, India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc, many families only own a motorcycle because it is a much cheaper option than a car.

@@firefighter1c57 Hell even small displacement bikes (125-500cc) are cheaper than cars. The thing is usually people refer to expensive liter bikes and harleys as to why it is more expensive, these bikes are the bike equivalent to muscle cars/sports cars where as the small displacement ones are like tuner cars and 4 cylinder cars. Not really understanding saying in general bikes are more expensive.

Crazy, I love it, but there are two misconceptions that I would like to draw loops around : first motorcycles aren't dangerous riders are, unless maybe it starts raining bikes from the sky two bikes getting you laid, actually I have had some offers because I guess motorcycles make you ( your bank account ) look more accessible plus when you show up on a bike everyone believes you own it whereas if you showed up in an expensive car there's the question of if you own it or if you are just a chauffeur but yeah 👍 👍 great 👍 video.

The only one i disagree with completely is #2. Biking is way cheaper. My insurance is 30 bucks a month and I refill my bike evry 2 weeks for 14 bucks! Sure the gear is expensive but that is typically a one-time purchase that lasts for years or at annually the very least. I also purchased my entire bike for 6500 much much cheaper than buying a cheap USED car no less

I am not understanding why people say motorcycles are cheaper. I am guessing these people are only looking at liter bikes and harleys which are as nearly as expensive as a car. But there is WAY more to bikes than those. I would say anything 500cc and under is cheaper than a car.

@@hughjarsehole3859 it is true that most people spend more on mods, gear etc. For their bikes than for their cars. The thing is that you dont have to. I got my first set of riding gear for under 200 bucks in a black friday sale last year(i know... amazing deal i had 350 off haha). Anything more is just for comfort, convinience and fun. It also helps that it is easier to learn to work on a bike than a car so most people can do most of the maintainence themselves.
