A tip for gently transitioning to a radically different color palette: focus on base layer tops since those reflect most on your face. Plan on keeping all of your bottoms, accessories, and neutral open layers (cardigans, coats, and button ups) until you've experimented more with the colors in your palette. You might be surprised how many of those items end up working with your new wardrobe in the end. I also suggest finding a way to look at your palette one color at a time instead of as a block, solely because it's easy to overlook colors. For example bright winter's brights are so eye-catching, you might not notice the light icy tints if you're always only looking at the whole palette.

That's some great advice here, thanks for sharing! I think in some ways I ended up doing a lot of that in my first summer - I bought shirts and tops in good colours, which helped me even with less flattering jackets! And I kept my warm white jacket, it works fine with most of my new jumpers! Keeping the bottoms is not only practical but also quite good for saving money - I found that I replaced less bottoms than tops since they were further away from my face

@@MiliVelikova I have a warm white jacket too. Because it has black window pane, the contrast is high enough, and it works especially well when I where a bright blouse. I also decided to keep my mid-tone warm brown leather accessories (purses, shoes belts). I like the way they contrast with my cool tone clothes, and they're never near my face anyway.

Great video. If I could go back in time, I would have invested in understanding my color palette, Kibbe type, and personal style in one go. I learned I was a True Spring right when I learned my 3 Words, and I started thrifting to overhaul my wardrobe. Once I accepted that I should be doing selfies, I saw I still looked frumpy, so I worked on my Kibbe ID and found out some of the beautiful pieces I bought in my color & style aren’t cut right for me. So, now I’m thrifting again. Not a great use of money.

Yeah I totally agree, if you can find all 3 in a similar time, then it's much better use of time and money! I think for me, it's been an iterative process. I think I found my style first, then started paying attention to colour (in the wrong colour season....), then learned more about kibbe (I'm an unconfirmed soft classic), and now I'm back to "how do I combine my body type which wants balance, with my love for edgy and polished style, and in my colours". It's a lot!

As a fellow TW - I actually always loved greys. But I realized that that sort of light heather grey (that you're also wearing as an example of grey), is in a lot of cases more of a Summer grey. (It's quite "light", soft, and the heather texture makes it sort of diffuse). While it's still totally wearable and "okay" for a Winter, it's not giving you contrast. I'd suggest trying either much darker greys or on the other end of the spectrum a much lighter almost "icy" grey. I think you will be surprised to see how much more flattering those are!
@Houseofgamine
@Houseofgamine 16 күн бұрын
Just to add as a true winter, clear grays in across the palette work for us too. No heather ( multiple threads of various shades) just solid gray makes a world of difference although for lighter grays it’s harder to find non-heather gray as it’s so popular

Thank you so much for sharing your tips- I appreciate it! I agree that one of my jumpers is that softer grey (didn't have a word for it, but now I do haha!) - and it's less contrasting, softer than my usual "clear" greys. This last weekend I found a dark, charcoal grey blazer and oh gosh, it looks so good! I'm yet to find an icy lighter grey - I find it's quite hard to find the more clear colour!

I didn't get a professional draping but I am quite confident I am a dark winter. After I got into colour analysis and kinda understood my season I never thought of throwing out my "wrong" colors, I just wear them less often and pair them with other pieces that suit me. More importantly I am much more mindful when I shop, but I don't think a complete wardrobe overhaul is ever necessary.
@MiliVelikova
@MiliVelikova 8 күн бұрын
It's great that you've found the colours that you think work for you - that's literally the most important thing, even if you never do a professional analysis! For me, I love colour especially on tops, so I felt very limited with just black and white, and I kinda stopped liking myself in yellows and oranges after I've seen how I look in pink / blue - which is why I felt I wanted to make a change. Still, it's been over a year and while it can seem pretty drastic, to me it felt doable and still a bit more mindful because the items I brought were generally pieces I loved and plan to wear for a while!

You make a lot of good points. I would like to add two more. First, I believe that it's actually better to sell, donate or pass on items you are no longer using than to let them gather dust and clutter your closet. At least they will be used by someone else and may raise money for charity. And second, I don't know if you're a scarf person, but you could look for a scarf to create a colour break between the orange sweater and your face. If you find a print with the deep blue it will be the complementary colour to the orange and may create a bit of edginess.

Thank you for watching and sharing your advice! Yeah agree about the clothes, I sold 85 items and donated 30 😂 it was only 4 pieces I was undecided about.. and I think I was more emotionally attached because I love them but they don't work the best. So I'm giving them another chance this year, and then if they don't work - I'm going to pass them onto someone who's gonna love them more! The scarf tip is great - I actually have a dark navy scarf (and just bought another one), that I'm guilty of not using at all!

This is so interesting, thank you so much for sharing your mistakes and lessons, its really good advice! I can actually see that the favourite dress is buttercup yellow, rather than lemon sorbet yellow, so its creamy warm pale, instead of cool icy lemon yellow good for winter. This is a great example of how tricky it can be to pick the right shade.. I can also see how your favourite bright orange top is still bright, clear and strong, so although its not cool, its still reinforcing your character traits of your palette, and maybe because you do have features like warm brown eyes and dark intense hair it matches enough. I think it looks great actually and i think thats interesting! Thank you so much for sharing ❤

Yeah absolutely you're spot on, it's not necessarily my kinda yellow - but it looked like it online! It's definitely tricky, which is why I buy my items 95% in person! I like myself in the orange as well, and agree with you that I can wear that specific top and still look quite alright - I'll be experimenting with layering a navy or black roll neck underneath, or a scarf too - to make it even better! For those who start this Journey take it slowly, i was very fortunate to have most of my colors in my Wardrobe and i've started gently adding colors that i never even thought will work for me, from my result. If you like to buy second hand go for it, is more sustainable and much affordable. Try to addjust to your Palette one by one and if you are not sure if it is the right color , then just don't buy it. Start adding small pieces like T-Shirts, Tops , Tanks, blouses and accesories and slowly moving to Trousers, Skirts, Blazers and Jackets. This Journey can throw you in a rabbit hole very easily. I was analysed by the 2 Ladies and i was very pleased with my result, i ended up being an True Autumn but i knew black, grey ,pink are my worst colors, since forever. I was analysed in 2023 and i still haven't added all colors in my Palette , is a long process and it takes time. And a gently reminder, sometimes or very often you will not find your colors and some type of colors are hardly to find.
@MiliVelikova
@MiliVelikova 8 күн бұрын
So cool you had your analysis done too, true autumns are quite rare I believe! I completely agree that it should be generally a slow process, it takes time to adjust and that's why I also mentioned in the video that you definitely don't need all colours. I ended up realised I don't wanna go into the purple direction, or shades of green - it's just not colours I like wearing much! I also agree that some colours are SO HARD to find - cool red for me has been very tricky, same as proper stark grey (most greys are muted mixed yarns)! Thanks for watching ❤️

You can experiment with accessories when you're not sure about a colour. Half of my scarves are gifts from friends and not always in my cool colours. The only muted items I own are shoes/bags/trousers. This is a way for me to downplay my bright colours (ie: pairing a deep plumish purple with sage green or a beautiful burgundy coat with taupe wool pants and gloves). Beware of reds/pinks/purples/coral colours on Vinted: that kind of pigments are very tricky when being shot. I always end up sending a virtual sample of few reds or purples to the Vintie selling it and ask what colour the item sold is the closest to on the virtual sample. Irl answers are sometimes a way better indicator than a picture. BTW what is your Vinted closet? I categorize mine by colour seasons and styles.
@MiliVelikova
@MiliVelikova 15 күн бұрын
That's some great advice here! I think accessories are great for using colours which you love but aren't suitable for clothes. Your colour combinations sound so good though - plum with sage is divine! I'm definitely gonna use the photo tip for the reds - they're so so tricky! I think pink is maybe the "safest" out of them, but reds and purples can be insanely hard to judge! My vinted is here: www.vinted.co.uk/member/176342942-milivelikova

When shopping I always take a picture of myself in the mirror trying on the clothes and then I have to be really, really honest. Because sometimes it is the right Color and cut but the print just is not doing anything good for me, or everything seems to be perfect but the shade of orange just makes my face look greyish. I think it is really important to be honest to yourself while shopping,because if something is bothering me right away more often than not it will keep on bothering

Thank you for watching and sharing, that's a great tip! I often do something similar, if the lighting is good. Oftentimes I find changing rooms really really hard to judge, because the lighting is off and I can't determine if something is good. For me if I can, I'd buy something and try it at home, take photos and look at myself objectively after a day or two - it helps to avoid regrets! I do agree 💯 that if something is bothering you right away, it will definitely keep on bothering you after!
