They should have given you a metal spoon for your gelatin and ice cream. As soon as I saw that you had a plastic spoon, I thought, "Oh my, he's in for an exercise in futility." xD Great video, as always.

Solo san, you remind me of the children's song SHO-JO-JI. I learned that song 70 years ago in Hawaii for May Day. LOL. When I first started watching your vlog, that song came to mind and put a big smile on KY face.

Interesting food tour. I could relate to your first meal. However, I would have also used the beef stew sauce on the baked potato. As for the tea jelly, I think it was trying to escape. Glad you recovered from the matcha tiramisu. Very nice hotel room. Enjoyed the tour and will definitely see you in the next one. Take care, stay safe.

Hi Solo-san, this video really came at such an *opportune and coincidental timing!!! Many thanks to you!!! You see... I'm finally going to visit Japan with my family for the first time in less than 2 weeks' time and our main stop is Kyoto!!! I was just worrying about what nice signature eateries we could go to and your video popped up. So now we have 1.5 days at least of meal recommendations. 😍😍😍 On a lighter note, as your regular viewer, I knew something was up when you said you "should not eat too much for now". 🤣🤣🤣 And the matcha jelly and ice cream "divorce" scene is classic. Love the Solo-san style humour.

1:41 I wonder why the menu uses katakana for rice instead of kanji.
@shirokumakogyo
@shirokumakogyo Жыл бұрын
Because it's a Western-style menu, they'll often use the katakana rendering--and the rice will usually be served on a plate to be eaten with a fork, not in a bowl to eat with chopsticks. (That's also why you'll usually see "Omuraisu"--a rice omelette--rather than "Omugohan"...)

The food you had for dinner looked amazing! I love how much variety there was. Is this what's referred to as a kaiseki meal? And do shopping centres usually display all the dining options like we saw on the screen like at 14:05? It'd make things a lot easier for me to decide on what to eat

Where I am from, Hamburger steak has a reputation as old fashioned and only eaten by the very poorest people. I'm a little sad about that because it comes up in a lot of Japanese food videos and looks pretty good. I'm going to have to make some for dinner soon!

Now, forgive me for sharing my opinion, but I don't like tomatoes by themselves usually, I like them in recipes, or on a burger, but not by themselves. If I was in your position and they gave me a tomato for my appetizer, I think I would be extremely disappointed, but that's just me!

What a travesty of culinary justice. Baked potatoes are supposed to be served with sour cream and butter and chives and things. Don't let them get away with a plain potato!
@orientalmoons

Jelly and ice cream is a nostalgic combination for a lot of British adults. It's a very common dessert at children's parties here. But I don't think many children would want matcha jelly and ice cream, haha. I always eat the baked potato skin, is that not done in Japan? I rarely see STJ leave any food uneaten. The skin is the best bit I think, crispy and tasty. I would like to see STJ eat shojin ryori food one time. I think Kyoto is one of the best places for that?
