'Oh deer'..LOL!!! The deep fried momiji manjyu with custard looks so delicious!! The okonomiyaki looks interesting. I've never been to Japan, so like others, I live vicariously through your videos...love them! I'm amazed at the amount of food you can eat!!!

Ahh, all that food looks so good! It's pancake day here in the UK this Tuesday. I have noodles and such in the house, and veggies. I think I'll have a go at making my own sort-of Okonomiyaki instead of the usual pancakes :D

Haha I am in UK & I am def gonna try the Okonomiyaki as a savoury style pancake dinner...but still having original pancakes for dessert.. :P Breakfast is also pancakes with honey, lemon, fresh fruit, nutella haha tomorrow everything pancake :D

I can’t have it because I’m allergic to wheat & eggs, but I have considered making it for the kids who love vegetables, especially cabbage and broccoli. One of them absolutely loves sprouts! Which really amuses the dinner ladies at school 😂 He’ll have seconds, but just the veg, no mash, chips, rice etc. They love fruit too. You might be able to remember when goodie two shoes Jamie Oliver campaigned about school dinner. When I was teaching you could tell the kids who ate well at home, they’d tuck into shepherd’s pie for example. While the kids who were just fed crap at home would take a bit more encouragement. Now I think most kids, even older ones now are just used to it. He tried similar in the us…didn’t go down well. They were using packed mashed potatoes 🤢They said they couldn’t give 12 year olds a knife & fork because they would cut themselves 😂 You could ride from Scotland across the ferry right down to Dover & crossing to Calais bare bottomed on a school knife 😂 My ex mom in law omg 🤦🏼♀️ I sat with them in restaurants, gawped at because I asked for a knife, even worse asking for chopsticks in a Chinese restaurant! I was cooking at she tried getting me to use frozen broccoli…I do sometimes freeze it myself instead of wasting it, but it tends to go in stews or something. She asked if I knew how to prepare it & cook it. She was used to having cooking instructions on frozen stuff. Then…she tried with the smash type mash 🤢 it has its’ uses, that wasn’t the day for it. Now…ready for this….as I picked up a bag of spuds…did I have a recipe for flipping mashed spuds! When I made a proper cheese sauce for them not the glowing orange out of a box macaroni cheese they looked doubtful, but ate it…they didn’t know it could be made like that 🤦🏼♀️ my ex preferred frozen crap and ready meals to real, home cooked meals. You know those revolting rizzlers or something similar burgers for the microwave, he loved them 🤮

I say goodie two shoes because he just used to cook, then he got paid a lot of money to push healthy stuff. That’s great, but when people looked up his old recipes they had something like 15 teaspoons of sugar in a milkshake

The very first time I went to Japan, I stayed two days at Miyajima. I recognise all the places you went. I had oysters for the first time. I stayed at Kikunoya and had Japanese food the entire time. I still remember. Then I went to Hiroshima, so I did it backwards. Haha.

This version of Okonmiyaki is very different than what I am used to seeing, using the very watery white batter to hold everything together with the squid flakes on top. This one seems to use eggs for the top and bottom. At first I though they were tortillas.
@immakatlady82432 жыл бұрын
I think that watery one is called monjayaki (sp?) and never gets really solid like a pancake, it becomes more like a gravy. The 2 main types of okonomiyaki include this Hiroshima version and the Osaka version, which has a thicker pancake batter to hold everything together. I’m no expert on eating these, I’ve just seen dozens of videos about the different types. Oh and the flakes on top that you’ve seen aren’t squid, it’s tuna that’s been dried until it’s almost wood-like and shaved..katsuobushi or bonito flakes. (Sorry this got so long! 😊)
@datruommi2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm also used to a different one where the batter is mixed with the cabbage before frying. Also haven't ever had noodles inside either. I don't think I had okonomiyaki when I was in Japan ages ago. I've only had it outside of Japan. That may be why.
