I’m glad you changed your mind about Bali-I hope you enjoyed your time there! Just a quick note: the Indonesian currency isn’t the rupee; it’s called the rupiah. As for Mt. Batur, having a guide is absolutely necessary nowadays. A few years ago, there were incidents involving foreigners behaving disrespectfully-one posed naked, and a couple even filmed themselves engaging in explicit acts on the mountain. Since Mt. Batur is a sacred place to the Balinese, such actions were deeply offensive. It’s also concerning to see you roll your eyes when mentioning that “it’s not safe for foreigners.” Please don’t underestimate these mountains. Earlier this year, a foreigner tragically died attempting to sneak up Mt. Agung without a guide. These are dangerous terrains that require respect and proper guidance. Frankly, dismissing local rules and customs not only endangers you but also perpetuates the stereotype of ignorant foreigners who disrespect traditions and act like they know better than the locals. Please be mindful-it’s the least you can do when visiting someone else’s home.

I went to Bali overland with my travel partner en route from Jakarta to Lombok in 2016 . We were hiring motorbikes as we went. We rented one in Ubud and discovered the North, where we then stayed for a while. The things that I most fondly remember are the gamelan music everywhere and the incense from the temples . And the Balinese people. Wonderful podcast, Paddy. I will go back. So much to see.

It's great you are getting over to East Bali. Sideman valley is one of my favorites. That White sand beach is one of the best also. Its name is Beas Tugal beach. I was living there in Padang Bai village during the 4 years of covid mania. A nice peaceful friendly village for those that don't want the hustle bustle of West Bali. Tirtagangga water palace is another must see. On up to Ahmed. The North side of Bali is great also. Thanks for the nice tour! 🙏👍❤️🌈

I have visited Bali over 26 times as its only 4 hrs by plane away from Perth, Western Australia and ended up falling out of love with it.... Until i took my wife with me and we did exactly that. We grabbed a scooter and headed up through the center to the top of the island staying in 3 different Airbnb's on the way and exploring each area for 2 or 3 days and fell back in love.. now we spend 2 days in the touristy areas and the rest getting lost and discovering new beautiful places and creating amazing memories. So glad you experienced what we do... Safe travels

You should visit other areas of Indonesia outside Bali. Some of these places are just a short flight away. You’ll be blown away! E.g: - The “secret Gilis” of Lombok - Bunaken Marine Park (North Sulawesi). Incredible snorkelling. - Komodo National Park - incredible diving, pink beaches and home of the komodo dragon. - Raja Ampat - another one of the world’s “diving meccahs” but surreal islands - Sulawesi in general would be great Paddy Doyle motorbike next level adventure. Beaches, volcanoes, jungles, and marine life, across the entire island.

Imagined, Bali which so famous since 50 years ago and still had off beaten track, hidden gems,etc....what about other Indonesian island which never saw tourist before until few years recently? Just explore the east of Bali like Flores, Sumba,Alor,Timor ..even further to Sulawesi,Molluccas n Papua.... You will realized Indonesia are so huge n many unexplored.. even called the Last Frontier...Indonesia not just Bali..Bali only small part of Indonesia...
