So glad that you agreed to going on a guided tour. Self drive tourists die frequently travelling in Iceland. The country is stunning but the climate is brutal. Unbuckling before a river crossing is smart, and buckling up again afterwards is even smarter. Having the correct gear to hike in Iceland is very important. It looks like you and your parents didn’t get that briefing. I hope that they were able to dry out their wet clothing. And finally, as they discovered, it is very important to park in the correct direction to the howling wind to be able to open and close the vehicle doors safely and enter and leave the vehicle safely. Loved my trip to Iceland with national geographic. It made life in the mountains of Scotland during winter seem easy.

Iceland was the most expensive country I ever visited in my life. I remember paying $3 for 1 banana. I could barely afford to eat there. Huge shout out to AG1. I subscribed right before I was hit by Hurricane Helene. I had no electricity for 5 days so could not refrigerate it. AG1 reached out to me and sent me 30 AG1 travel packets free. I am very grateful since I lost all my food in the fridge and had to repair my roof.

Glad to hear you have pleasant memories of NASKEF. Going to the Carnivals as a kid there in the 90s is one of my funest memories growing up. Seeing the soldiers and the trucks and being able to buy Big red and skittles was such a pleasant treat. The standards of living have gone way up since back then and if you ever want to revisit some old memories there are currently flights daily from 15 different US major cities.

Went to Iceland with two friends at the end of april of 2017. Only drove around the island in a normal car. Fell in love with the country and had to take my girlfriend there one day. I did in 2019 and she also fell in love. We took a guided bustour to Landmannalaugar. Now we cant't wait to show our two daughters the beauty of the country. Loved you video. Literally couldn't stop watching. Iceland is one of the most beautiful an fascinating countries on the planet!

I've been fortunate to have visited Iceland twice. The most recent time we saw the Northern Lights as we were flying over Greenland, and then we were a mile away from an erupting volcano, which was awesome. The waterfalls, hot springs, geysirs, glaciers, ice caves, icebergs, volcanos, and rivers-there are very few countries in the world that can match the natural beauty of Iceland.

The wind!!! I appreciate this video so much. Spent a few days in Northern Iceland in early September- was lucky to have sunny weather! My second time so I thought I was used to the wind. While waiting in the airplane to disembark the whole thing was shaking and I thought oh boy , here we go. For 2 days there were gale force winds and trying to walk was comical. So thankful at the time that I wasn’t camping. And trying to open the rental car door without it blowing off… just made the trip more memorable. Go if you have a chance- it should be on everyone’s bucket list. Thank you Nate and Allie!

Late to the party here, but WOW at such a great concept for exploration in a more conscious mindset. This trip is probably very expensive, but if you are able to crave this kind of off-roading and exploration, then what a fantastic voyage. I imagine this method of exploration and travel still has less environmental impact than traditional tour groups, plus it is educational in such a positive and impactful way for Iceland. Iceland has maintained such a naturally raw landscape compared to other places where "civilization" has come to conquer and strip everything from her. The Icelandic people have so much pride in maintaining this beauty to share with everyone in a naturally responsible way. Yeah, I know this trip with Kara and Nate is not for everyday budgets, but because of them sharing such opportunities they have to showcase this culture, more people will explore Iceland virtually and in-person. Conscious awareness and the eagerness to learn about a land and culture drives diversity and inclusiveness. You two are such unconsciously amazing heroes driving current and future generations of people to be better people than those that have come before.
