The red canoe on the black Honda looks neat. Nice video, thanks for sharing the video. It does get us excited for summer.

great series! you need to get off the ground! Switch to a gathered end hammock with an underquilt! best sleeps ever and no more worries about finding flat ground!

I'm not a fan of hammocks, and I like the extra space in the tent. Plus, I don't think my dog would approve.

Love that site on Whitebirch! That swimming rock and canoe pull up spot make it great. Never been to that spot but adding to our list. Nice start to the trip!

I just live an hour and a half from Kiosk and have never been to this end of the park. I think I will be checking it out this summer. Thanks for the videos and the great information.

It's a beautiful area, I wish I lived closer! Coming from the south, it's easier to plan trips along Hwy 60

I love the pace of your trip. Thank you for sharing. My partner and I did a similar route later in the month (except we went down Mink, which I wouldn't choose again, for similar reasons as you've stated-- though we only had one other party on the lake, the sites felt overused and ,well, that railroad bed) . Our second night on Mouse, we stayed at the beach site too. I loved that spot for stargazing. Thanks for capturing it on video, for the memories it brings. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

Nice canoe! Looks very light / similar to a Swift Keewaydin which I have really enjoyed using the past few years.
@AlgonquinBeyond Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's 30lbs all in with the skid plates, foot brace, and detachable yoke. The Keewaydin is a beautiful boat as well, I've paddled it plenty of times and was considering purchasing one, but this H2O was more aligned with what I was looking for. Thanks for watching the vid!

Love the video one of my favourite areas of the park so looking forward to part 2,3. Your new canoe handled that chop on Kiosk like a champ! I enjoyed seeing what you pack for gear, very helpful.

Thank you! Fortunately, that was the only bad weather of the trip. The next 7 days were 25 degree sunshine and almost no wind. I was very lucky.

Nice video - thanks for sharing. Try getting off the ground with a hammock for a better sleep. I use a (Warbonnet) Ridgerunner bridge hammock and sleep great every time.

Thanks. I personally prefer the space and function of a tent. This was also my very last "true" solo trip, I trip with my pup Elo now so a tent is necessary for both of us

Great video work and amazing release timing, makes me want to start planning my 2023 trips now 🙂. Also saw that you usually use a single blade paddle, have you tried a double blade? I find it is more efficient on the windy days especially across bigger lakes. Single blade is still better for rivers but I usually don't have both with me.
@AlgonquinBeyond Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used a double blade a bit when I started soloing. There's no denying that it's more efficient, but it's also way less enjoyable for me personally. I understand why they've become so popular, but I lose that special feeling of paddling and connection with the canoe/water when I use a double blade.

Looks like an awesome trip! Just curious why you chose Whitebirch/Waterclear as opposed to Mink? Hoping to try out this route eventually
@AlgonquinBeyond Жыл бұрын
Thanks! A few reason... campsite availability and predictability was the big one. I had read/heard about the White Birch sites and based on the few number of permits, I was almost guaranteed to get a good site. Mink has a lot more sites, meaning less predictability where I'd end up. Plus, more sites means more people, and more people means more noise and less privacy. There was one LOUD group on Mink that I actually heard from my campsite on White Birch. I also prefer to camp away from things like the old rail bed behind Mink, it makes me feel less remote and makes the campsites easier to access from neighbouring sites and even wildlife. The actual route itself (portaging + canoeing) I was indifferent between so I made the decision based on those campsite factors.
@ryanstubbs4044 Жыл бұрын
@@AlgonquinBeyond Thanks for the reply, all very valid considerations! Privacy/noise makes a lot of sense, I recall several louder groups on Burnt Island last summer

good video. what size barrel do you use for solo trips. I need to buy one

Thanks! It's a 20L barrel from Recreational Barrel Works, inside of the harness meant for my 30L barrel (luckily it fits well)

nice trip man also ive never seen a tarp that small 😂? where did you get it. That is a hack for protecting gear from rain usually I bring my gear inside the tent with me. Not you?
@AlgonquinBeyond Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah. No idea where it came from, it's super old. Probably Canadian Tire or something. There's not enough room in my tent for everything and I don't like to clutter the vestibule. Plus if there are any curious animals or rodents sniffing around I'd rather have fewer things near me in the tent.
