So, one of my Japanese coworkers told me the other day “don’t sweat, sweating is impolite in Japan”... but I mean, they can wear a suit even with a coat on in summer 39 degrees Celsius with 90% humidity or so and don’t sweat a drop, but that doesn’t mean that everybody else is the same, I know we are in Japan so we must do as Japanese do, but some things aren’t physically possible, what then?

That whole "Disneyland is romantic" thing is just a giant and very successful marketing by Disney. I'm pretty sure that before Disneyland was established, Japanese people had other (and by far more) romantic places they could go to. I'm sure that many japanese people find it also not very romantic. I And I assume many/most japanese boys/men go to Disneyland because their girlfriend/wife wants to go there. Ive been living in Japan for about 4 years now...there are some Japanese women who actually like beards, etc....in my own opinion its a personal opinion, but I have noticed a silent majority of Japanese women who do, in fact like beards. Also, I do agree with the body odor. I do my best and I purchase American deodorant. But I have noticed some Japanese women who seem like they bathe in their perfume, so I think it works both ways. "Manshaving" is of course always recommended, yet my GF refuses because she thinks she will look different than other girls at onsens. I was raised old school, opening the door for ladies, treating them special, and in all honestly, i refuse to change. I am proud to be that type of person and am happy that my mother and father raised me that way. I think the worst thing I have encountered, is the blood type question. I honestly was a little freaked out when a woman asked me what my blood type is.

Because the elderly is healthy and strong. And going by train is not such a torture how it could be in other countries
@Stanzafly
@Stanzafly 4 жыл бұрын
@@aliyahaqverdi9607 This is simply not true. Let's start with the obvious: there are people of poor health everywhere. The average Japanese person does live longer due to their diet but they didn't find the Spring of Life. Secondly, Japanese people on average take some of the LONGEST commutes of any country and two hours standing for somebody with chronic pain or arthritis could put them in terrible pain. Thirdly, the trains in Japan (while much cleaner and much more orderly than most, if not all, other countries in the world) get wildly packed and often don't have AC. So it can be quite uncomfortable for people without health issues let alone an elderly person. The body breaks down at some point or another and we young and (mostly) healthy individuals should have respect and empathy for somebody going through that. I've given up my seat for an elderly person before and it's not too much to ask. People should preach kindness, not apathy and discourtesy. What a strange and illogical argument you've put together.
@Lethemback
@Lethemback 4 жыл бұрын
It's because it could be seen as if telling the other person that they're weak. Some elders can also get offended by it. However, it depends on the situation. Sometimes you'll see someone actually offering them their seat by saying that they're getting off on the next station, but then that person often moves to another wagon to avoid any attention. It's all so socially complex or different that I don't think that it's fair to judge them based on our own culture and expectations.

I agree with what some of the people above have said. Sometimes it's difficult when I'm not feeling very well (which is quite often, especially if I'm on the train). When you are young adult, anyone say under 35, people expect you to be healthy and to be able to give up your seat first. It's difficult to tell if you don't have a physical disability. You might get looked at or someone may call you out for not being aware of who gets on the train, which has happened to me before lol

What's funny is the thought that doing what everyone else does, doesn't make you cliche. Nah, I'll be myself, thanks, much. That way, the love that does come my way will be mine, and not the cliche persona. Obviously, hygeine, and the basics in grooming. But ultimately, if she is hoping for a kiss or hold hands in public, do it. If she doesn't, don't. Seriously. Being a cliche is the Worst offensive way to treat a lady. Don't. Just. Don't. When you talk with her, ask her where she's gone and whether she enjoyed herself or not. This helps you build a rapport with her, but also gives you some insider info where to take her, how to treat her. And let me tell you, ladies just want to have fun. Treat her like a little sister, but also engage her intimately so she doesn't friend-zone you. Being playful, without being forceful, when she's not serious, but also adapting to her change in mood from playful to serious when she really opens herself up to you. In that moment, you are the man she's chosen, so make it real for her. Don't break a lady's heart unless she's broken your's, and only if you and her are ready to end the relationship for good. Once she cries, in a bad way, over you, that's the end of the relationship. Be good to her, but be real. Tease her like you would a little sister, but don't torture her till she cries. Appeal to the little girl inside her, draw up her nostalgic emotions and memories so it's like she's known you forever. But you should also establish boundaries. Don't be a simp. If she want's money on a regular basis, she's treating you like a customer, not a boyfriend. If she wants or needs something done, does it benefit you and her as a couple, or just her? Be sure it's mutual benefit so you don't get taken advantage of, and don't enable her vices. Contrary to popular opinion, the relationship comes first, not her, but don't say it to her like that. Women are emotionally driven, thus appeal to emotions in your lady while benefiting the relationship. This way, even seemingly selfish deeds, necessary deeds, are for her benefit, and have some idea how it benefits her. If you are thinking of intervening in her affairs, talk to her and voice how it makes you feel, and ask her if there is anything you can do. Communicate, cooperate, coordinate. Once you get it down, all you really are doing is treating her for who she is, not what you want or would have her be. Support her ideals for being the best girlfriend/wife/career-woman she hopes to be/believes she is, but also hold her accountable to her own standards, not yours. Call her on her sh!t. That's about as clear cut as I can put it. So long as you are who you are, you won't be a best friend in name only, won't be her customer, you won't be her slave. You'll be in a relationship with the real her, and she'll be in a relationship with the real you.

Damn. I'm an African American woman and find this to be spot-on. One thing I would like to say is that everyone is emotionally-driven when building relationships, it's just most of us can't see ourselves objectively. Otherwise, I think this is good advice that I'm sure many other men won't even want to take. Keep doing what you do.

My wife is actually one of those "jealous type" women. She's not Japanese. She's actually Filipino (like me) though she does look like Japanese because of her eyes and her skin color (it's actually very light compared to mine). Though I wouldn't quite say "jealous type" for those kinds of girls. Rather they're more of the territorial ones. Which ultimately means they're very faithful partners. Edit: Though my wife and I are both Filipinos, there's a huge difference between us: I was born and raised in the good ol' U S of A. As for my wife, she was born and raised in my parents' motherland.

The "Ladies First" has always been an issue in the US as well. We give it a lot of lip-service, but when I was still dating more than a few women let me know - sometimes as soon as the end of the first date - how refreshing it was to have someone pull back their chair, help them into/out of their coat etc. Back in the 80's watched a visiting exec from Japan practically step on his wife - forcing her to step back a bit - in a social event. She waited on him hand and foot. He never thanked her w more than a nod. Glad to see Japanese women are finally starting to expect better things.

Don't worry. I was a bearded man in Japan and I was never short of dates. The girls I dated all loved the beard. One even got very upset with me when I shaved it off. Remember just like most women around the world. What a women says she likes or wants and what she actually likes and wants are often two different things. There are a lot of japanese women who love the rugged look but won't openly admit to it.

My first job was dealing with the public in a multi-national chain restaurant, so, I know for a fact that is not the easiest job in the world. My boss had a small granite plaque in his office that said. 1, The customer is always right. 2. When in doubt, refer back to Rule 1. Regardless of your position, you represent that chain, so, anything you do or say will effect that chain's ability to continue onwards.

Western gaijin in general are better than other cultures gaijins. I remember my first trip to Japan in 1999 I unplugged the bathtub at the end of the night. If she doesn't like who I am she doesn't have to date me! English is a better language to stick with. Its a much better leading language without a hierarchy. I've always wanted to visit Japan. I'm a wood Carver,leather worker,and now I build and customize scale model kits. The craftmen in Japan have always intrigued me! The wood carving on almost everything wooden there is fantastic,and I love the variety of ways they work and finish leather. That said,I'm 6ft 7in (2 meters) tall and about 300 pounds (136kgs) with longish hair and a beard that touches my chest! I don't stink, wear a minor amount of cologne, I don't flirt much, or tend to be chatty. I was brought up to be polite and do all those things we're supposed to,you know open doors,let women go first,,be respectful of just anybody ( as long as they are) I'm slightly southern,born and lived in Missouri all my life. The "chivalry" she's talking about is just the way we were brought up to behave. So aside from looking like "monster#2" in a Godzilla movie,and being bearded,I might be comfortable visiting Japan! I'm not much interested in big city,club scene kinda trip,I'd rather go to the small town kinda areas where the Craftsmen and their shops are. Might have to brave a big city to go to one those amazing hobby/model stores they have,but I'd beat feet back to somewhere quit real quick! Cool video,pretty informative!

To be completly honest, gentleman behaviour is earned. It is in the name "ladies" first, not "girls" or "entitled women"... it is "ladies". I am very gentlemanly to ladies, especially if they dont think they deserve it just because they are women, that is not how it works. A "lady" for me is someone I want to protect and I want her to be safe from harm and I can respect as a person. I will not (and most guys) respect someone just because she is the opposite gender. So I'll be comfortable with who I am and they can choose to accept me or not, after all, it's their personal preferences, and they shouldn't be anyone but themselves either. It would be quite miserable for me to have to keep not being me to make something work as it would for them to have to quit being them to do the same.

Problem is most western deodorants have a scented smell. Like cologne or perfume it's hard to find deodorants which do not. But there are a few colognes/ perfumes you might be able to get away with wearing. Three popular brands that I'm aware of is "Almost Transparent Blue" by "A Lab On Fire." That one is super spendy at $150. But it has a very mild scent and if you just have to wear cologne then this is a good option. The second is L'Orginal by Andree Putman. It's only about $85 so it I won't break your bank account. The third is probably the most popular here. At least from what my Japanese friend tell me. Parfums de Nicola1 is a fig tea cologne perfume. With a very light fruity scent. It's around $157 ouch lol. Well if you want the best you have to pay for it I guess. But Cathy Cat is certainly correct on this. BO is a cardinal sin so if you only remember one thing remember this. :)

I had the good fortune of having been stationed with the US Air Force on the island of Kyushu from 1979 -1980. My chivalrous nature met with mixed results. One young lady that I was dating had a small problem with my being that way in public. She considered herself something of a Women's Libber at the time. (She also had been a foreign exchange student in the US as a teenager) but when we went back to my apartment she became totally Japanese. However, a different young lady loved my chivalrous behaviour., the difference here is that she had never left Japan. The other thing that I have to disagree with, and this may be a thing the ladies can do but the men can't, is asking about past relationships. Both of these young ladies truly gave me the third degree, especially when they found out that I was divorced. ON something of a similar note, they both wanted to know how many other girlfriends I had. Both seemed shocked and disbelieving when I told them I didn't have another girlfriend other than them. (They were two different relationships, not at the same time.)

Let's reexamine those notions of chivalry: To fear God and maintain His Church To serve the liege lord in valour and faith To protect the weak and defenceless To give succour to widows and orphans To refrain from the wanton giving of offence To live by honour and for glory To despise pecuniary reward To fight for the welfare of all To obey those placed in authority To guard the honour of fellow knights To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit To keep faith At all times to speak the truth To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun To respect the honour of women Never to refuse a challenge from an equal Never to turn the back upon a foe Soooooo being courteous to women and having manners is one thing, but chivalry....yeah it's officially dead.
