Check out Upper Iowa University. They offer an interesting distance education format, very old school. It appears to be a good school. Also, check out Calbright College in California. They are 100 percent free to california residents and are recently accredited by DEAC. It's a fully online community college and the first of its kind in the nation.

The Leadership/Management degree zing is so accurate. 😄 I got an AS in business then chose the Leadership major which only has about 40 credits but I added a minor in management since I have a business background and public service since I work for a local agency. My plan is to get a masters in public administration. Tha same goes for the Human Services degree. A couple of my coworkers and a family member got their BS from the same regional university. One got a master's in counseling, the other in English with a linguistics concentration and the other in creative writing.

@RealizeTheGoddess Hi there. I discovered this channel after I already had 90 credits and a semester in...but I got mine from a community college that offered bachelor degrees. The school is South Texas College. The classes were online and CBE. I work for State Farm and didn't spend a single cent under their tuition plan. If I had to pay or knew of this channel sooner, I probably would've gone to UMPI. (Even though STC is cheaper than most 4 year colleges) Because it took me 7 months to complete after having 90 credits. But some of the people using college hacked techniques are finishing less than a year without a credit.

I was a Computer Science major with an Econ minor. I was kind of considering being a business analyst, but also a web designer, but also a game developer, and a bunch of other things, so I just kind of did the most generic thing I could to cover all my bases. Well, when I was taking my econ courses, I noticed a pattern. Almost all of the InfoSys majors in my courses with me were previously computer science majors who dropped out of the major because of the math. I can tell you right now, these were some of the laziest people I have EVER met. I had no idea there were people who missed class so much, didn't do any assignments, etc. in college until I met these people. I mean, like everyone else, I took gen eds; I thought I would have seen the full spectrum of students and seen super lazy students in at least one of those classes at some point. Not even close. I have no idea how these people made it through college, but they generally managed to. And so I guess what I am saying is, if you really are lazy, choose InfoSys. You will definitely feel at home.

Do you think you could cover which colleges would be the best for veterans who just want to graduate fast? I know you already did a military video but it didn’t factor in which colleges allowed the most transfer credits from military experience. There aren’t too many competency based colleges and I know WGU likely won’t accept many since their curriculum doesn’t have much flexibility for elective credits. But I don’t know too much about the other colleges. I feel like this is important to cover because I know lots of enlisted who just want to hack their degree to become an officer

"all the people who make it into bureaucratic government jobs aren't geniuses". Really? Do you know that? What a careless comment that's doing a disservice to anyone watching this. I work in Federal government and I can tell you that there are many, many smart people doing very, very hard things every single day. I don't know why this trope has gotten so much traction in our country, but federal government workers are intelligent people. We're not just sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for time to pass. On that note, government is a pretty good major if you actually plan on going into government work or even non-profit work. Our government is very very complicated and we need more civil servants. Part of the reason we don't have more is because of callous comments like yours. And to make you feel better, it's not just you, but it seems to be a general assumption in this country that anyone who works for the government is coasting. False, false, and more false. All that said, I do appreciate you bringing some reality to this college major career discussion.
@CollegeHacked
@CollegeHacked 20 күн бұрын
Apologies for the careless comment. I'm not sure exactly how I phrased it, but I was trying to say that not ALL government employees are geniuses while allowing for many or some to be. I understand how my intonation and tone suggested otherwise. My father works for the government as do two of my brothers. I have a lot of respect for what they do and for what many government employees do. I have also heard the horror stories, often from the inside, but you're right that this topic calls for carefulness and respect.

@@mrdrgriffin8790Relax. He didn't mean anything by it and never aims to insult anyone. In fact, my degree is one of the "fall through majors"....and I didn't get into my feelings over it. You working for the federal government isn't plot armor or insulate critique to your particular degree. I frankly don't understand why people listen to videos expecting only thunderous applause or back massages when content creators are rating degree programs. Your degree is merely a key on your "repertoire keychain" to unlock certain doors. It doesn't make you, YOU. And if it does....it shouldn't.

@@mrdrgriffin8790 Fair enough. As I have no problem with critique, rebuttal or sound information counter to my previous decisions/ideas. But a generalized statement about government employees not being geniuses (which they aren't) is no different than saying life insurance/mutual agents aren't geniuses. This is a factual statement and I'm a life insurance agent. Someone feeling insulted about such a generalized and true statement seems like they are looking to be insulted. I could be wrong and if so, that's cool. 😎 Have a good one friend.

Just to add to that, curriculum writing and design is an excellent choice if you eventually want to get a Masters degree. Also, any of the administrative positions in schools, besides like VP/Principal or anything specialized like IT/Finance, you would be eligible for. Lastly, there's a lot of education programs from nonprofits out there, like after school programs, that hire people with any education degree. Just a warning though, with how many previously licensed teachers are dropping out of the profession, jobs like these are becoming incredibly competitive and the applicant pool is filled with licensed teachers for most of them. Everyone I know who works in the education department at my local science museum, for example, has either previously been a teacher or already has experience in a place like a zoo, which is even more directly applicable experience. So good luck out there.

Apologies for the unrelated comment, but it would be awesome if you answered some questions of mine, Dr. What schools do you recommend that aren't online? (not really an option for me, hoping to go for a Chemistry degree as pre-med,) What do you think of the University of Alabama? I heard they are very generous with financial aid, even for internationals. Are any of the schools that you often mention (UMPI, SMHU etc...) particularly prestigious? as an aspiring pre-med student, a prestigious uni would be nice for med school admission. What schools would you recommend for people like me, particularly (but not required) in the california area?

University of Alabama is a great school. Just don’t forget that medical school admissions committees care a whole lot more about your community service, rec letters, and MCAT score than what school you went to. Dr. Lauren was accepted to 2 medical schools with a build your own major that was all online except for the required sciences. There are many ways to acceptance. You got this!
@stitch3555
@stitch3555 29 күн бұрын
@CollegeHacked Thanks! Your input on the Uni means a lot. You might be right, but a prestigious school certainly won't hurt, especially since I'm hoping to apply to Stanford Med (Long shot, I know, but hey, shoot for the moon, land amongst the stars.) and most of the students from there come from big schools, (having a competitive app would also mean getting accepted into more med schools, which would mean I could leverage those acceptances to get free-tuition/financial aid) It's fascinating that Dr. Lauren managed that, I may have to look into that myself. I appreciate the encouragement!

But as long as higher ed is charging $50k-100k to review high school and learn skills at a low level, I say do your learning on your own or with a private tutor or in a masters program. But if you've got the time and money to learn in this particular venue and method, go for it.
