That's the beauty of alcohol inks - you can choose any colors and they go together beautifully! I just happen to like pinks and blues - particularly turquoise - so my tree is white and all the ornaments are pink and turquoise. You can choose any colors you want. I would stick with only 3-4 colors so they don't get muddy. Good questions and comments!

Great idea! Maybe dots of pva glue could be applied to stick the foil as it dries clear? Here in the UK we can buy strands of wired tiny lights very cheaply - maybe one light inside each bauble would make a pretty hanging row of decorations?

I love the way you think, Sue! I'll try some pva glue to see if the foil will stick next time. And I love the idea about the lights! Very clever!

Hi, there brilliant. Have you ever put the inks inside them instead of the outside?
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom Жыл бұрын
Yes - they wind up a muddy mess. At least, that was my experience. You also don't have the same control as pouncing the inks on. But whenever I dripped ink onto the inside, no matter how long I waited, they still globbed up and became a mess. Go ahead and give it a try tho - maybe you'll be much better at it than I was! I wish you the very best - no matter which technique you choose to try! 😊

@wendylovesYYC Hey Wendy! Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my video - I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Lorrie Brewer is the best - I am desperately trying to learn how to paint like she does. (I know I'll never have her talent.) So stay tuned - I may have some videos showing the foibles one encounters when trying to learn the process. (And foibles there are from what I've experienced! lol) It means the world to me that she so kindly mentioned me and it warms my heart that you came over to check things out. THANK YOU! I hope you are able to find interesting videos in time. I have lots planned for 2020! Happy New Year! xx

Hi Evelyn - Thank you for the comment! I purchased the daubers on Amazon. They are Ranger brand. When I typed in Ranger dauber into the search field, it came right up. I think it was the third product down. It comes with a few felt pieces. I don't think it will work with foam brushes because they aren't stiff enough to apply the inks, but you can certainly try it! I would love for you to prove me wrong. I experiment with anything I think might work - I encounter a lot of failures, but when something works, it's amazing! You can buy the felt circles independently from Ranger, I just find them to be expensive when a sheet of felt costs nothing - and all you have to do is cut it up to fit on the dauber. I don't want to spend craft money on little circles when I can buy the felt sheets. I would rather save that money for more craft supplies! ha If you have any other questions, please let me know. Sorry it took me so long to respond! Have a creative day!

Hi! I’m new to this…. I had to water down my craft paint because it was too thick. I think I may have put in too much water! Because the inside looks “crappy”. Will putting another coat - of thicker paint - fix the problem? Thank you!!
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom Жыл бұрын
Hi there - I'm so glad you tried this! You can try adding another coat of paint; the problem is that it will stack up on top of the paint that shows. (I hope that makes sense.) I would try it to just see what happens being prepared to have to start over on another ornament. I sure hope it works for you! Please let me know if you have any more questions. Happy holidays!

I think you need almost to have built up a series of layers of alcohol ink having dried them in between so they get to the point where they're layering over each other, for it to get that handy 'tacky' feel where foil will stick to it. You're understandably trying to speed things up for us on camera, which is never easy! Doing stuff at speed on camera and talking us through it is really difficult - people who've never done it underestimate the amount of things your brain is having to simultaneously process! 🤪 Either way, I think these all turned out absolutely _beautifully,_ and I'm definitely going to have a go at these for Christmas next year! Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us. Good luck with with your Bubbles business! 🌲🙏🏼✨

I do Christmas ornaments but I find that even if I put a small amount of paint inside the ornament tends to leak. How long do you leave your ornament upside down and how many coats do you put inside?
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacquie - Thanks for asking. I put my ornaments upside down for about an hour. That lets a lot of the paint drip out and then mostly dry. Not all the way dry, but quite a bit. Then I usually set them aside while they dry thoroughly before I work with them. Only use one coat or you risk making a total mess on the inside. One light coat - you don't need to overdo the amount of paint you put in. Sometimes I'll point the nozzle of my dryer toward the hole in the ornament and try to dry the paint a little faster that way...but I don't know much that actually helps. If you're really in a hurry, you can always put the ornaments on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven. Turn the oven on to 175 and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Leave the ornaments in the oven - don't touch them. Don't take them out until the oven is cold again. This only works with glass ornaments - the plastic ones will likely melt. I hope this helps! Let me know if I can help with anything else. :)

I'm not sure - but it was definitely embarrassing that it didn't work! It worked on all the ornaments I tried before I turned on the camera. Maye you're right. I'll go with that! Thanks for the comment!

Sorry for the stupid questions, but im new to this whole "craft" thing... Could you use make-up wipes instead of felt?
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom 3 жыл бұрын
No stupid questions! In fact, I think that's a great question - and I'm not sure I know the response. I've never tried using makeup sponges, but I don't know why they wouldn't work. You get a different look when you use a sponge than felt but it's certainly worth a try! If they don't work then you can always invest in the whole dollar a piece of felt costs and use that. But I would totally try the makeup sponge and see what happens. I'll try it the next time I'm messing around with this technique. Fantastic question! Good luck in your crafty adventures - I should warn you, this stuff is addictive! :)

@@SargentBubblescom I've been playing around with resins lately, so I have alcohol inks already. And yes, you're right. This stuff is very addictive! Can you blow dry? How do you put plastic in the oven at 175? Won't that melt? Sorry I am a newbie!
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry - I just saw this. No, do NOT put the plastic ornaments in the oven!! I was talking about the glass ornaments, but I didn't make that clear. It's important you put the glass ornaments in a cold oven and then start the oven, so the glass can heat up with the oven. If you put them in a preheated oven they can shatter. You could try blow drying it if you want to - but I just thought trying to point the nozzle into the little hole would be pointless. I had the time so I just let them dry naturally. It doesn't take 3 days, I just left them there that long before I could get back to them. It helps to dry faster if you don't overload the inside with paint. The alcohol inks dry quickly - a little blowing on them is all that's necessary. Thank you so much for your comments - I just wish KZbin would notify me when you posted them! Have a creative day!

Hi there - thank you for your comment! I made this video a long time ago, and without watching the whole thing to jog my memory, I believe it is the foil you use for foiling machines. I usually clearly state what materials I am using, so watching the video at that point should tell you exactly what it is. I hope that helps - if not, leave another comment, and I will investigate further. :)

What is the point of putting the white paint on the inside if you're covering the outside and you don't see it
@SargentBubblescom
@SargentBubblescom 2 жыл бұрын
It provides an opaque base for the colors that go on the outside. Without it, the colors wouldn't be as strong and you could see through the ornament. Does that make sense?
@221b-Maker-Street
@221b-Maker-Street 2 жыл бұрын
It makes the colours on the _outside_ really pop by giving them a white background. If you think of eg stained glass, it's always a window, so comes alive because it has a light coming through it for 'background'. Stained glass at night time doesn't look like much at all, but with the sun streaming through, it looks amazing. White paint is in effect, a form of 'backlighting' for your alcohol inks. In the same way that nearly all watercolours are painted on white paper - it makes the colours sing. 😊
