You are spot on about having enough wood to sale all season. You can not sale fron an empty cart.Cut more wood.The more you have, the more you can sale. Keep up the hard work Chris.

All good advice. I advertise only on marketplace and with word of mouth. I try to sell mixed hardwood only to keep from handling it so much. Our stands are filled 3 times per week. Remember a little bit everyday goes a long way!

Chris, a funny one that relates to your point #3. We had a customer wanting to buy "ironwood". I guess some new immigrants from high tech industry googled what was the most dense firewood and that's what they asked. Nevermind that it does not grow here, we mostly have softwoods....
@InTheWoodyard13 сағат бұрын
Yup, I have had people ask for wood that does not grow here too!

On the subject of having enough wood, we are trying the tiered approach. We deliver full cords until october, then smaller 1/3 cord limit (since we deplete our atock), and finally we do self-service stand only. We can't make enough wood here to deliver cord quantities year round. Of course, the prices are structured too, full cords are a bit cheaper then face cords, and stand is a little more expensive too.
@InTheWoodyard13 сағат бұрын
I would not discount additional wood, it is the same work and time for each cord. And if you are running out you might need to raise your prices a bit.

I was unable to cut anything this spring but had 2-3 cords from last year and had 1 new and 1 returning customer and it was gone. It was such a frustrating, helpless feeling I said this will never happen again! So since July/August Ive managed to cut and split about 40 full cords and hopefully I can reach my goal of 50+ full cords before the snow flies, cut and split for next year. We dont have the volume of people where I live so Id be just fine selling on average about 30 full cords a season. My goal after next year is getting a splitter that can put out more wood, my ULTRA is a great, fast splitter but can only put out so much wood using a 4 way or single wedge.
@InTheWoodyard21 сағат бұрын
50 cords is a great goal...if you sell it for $300 per cord that is $15,000 !!! Not to shabby!

I cut wood everyday because it is here and I love to do it. So does everyone else in my area, I split 2 cords of large hickory yesterday. It keeps me off the streets.
