Thank you, I enjoyed that. A follow up video on the types and characteristics of the various British campaign medals could be interesting. The issues of which type of medal is dependent on the operation/conflict. In descending order of severity British medallic recognition is: Stars (generally general war ie WW1 and 2); individuals campaign medals such as the South Atlantic Medal and Iraq Medal; the Operational Service Medal with each campaign having a separate ribbon (such as Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Operation SHADER etc) meaning that more than one OSM may be worn; the General Service Medal with different qualifying campaigns recognised by separate clasps on the same medal; the (newest) Wider Service medals with different claps similar to the GSM. In addition to this, campaign medals issued by international organisations (UN, NATO etc) may be approved to be worn for service on operations where there is no British medallic recognition. The much wider use of campaign medals and clasps since the Cold War may have led to some confusion my people mounting medals. Claps on campaign medals are mounted at the bottom of a ribbon to eyelets on the top of the medal’s suspenders and on the clasps. However, I have noticed that many people have the bar(s) to their LSGCMs mounted similarly when they should be mounted centrally on the LSGCM ribbon in a similar position to a Level 4 emblem; this is why the suspender of an LSGCM does not have eyelets for clasps.
