I agree with everything except the Birkenstocks, which I personally see as "city flip flops"😂I mean sure, I don't think anyone would call them elegant or dressy, but they are actually incredibly comfortable due to the cork sole and ALL their straps are adjustable (how many shoe models can offer that?😂) I have a model from the classical range in a classic color with thin straps that criss-cross at the big toe, they have just worked their third summer in the row and going strong! Even my mom asked me to bring a pair. At first she was literally whining that they were super uncomfortable, but once she finally broke them in, she's the happiest woman during the summer XD at least in my closet (which is borderline casual) there is definitely a place for one pair of Birkenstocks:) but the rest of the shoes are hideous, I completely agree🙈

Marie-Anne, I'm in my 50s and I have debilitating arthritis. Unfortunately, there's no cure and I have to take pain medicine for it. I feel terrible because I'll never be able to wear heels again. However, i found two pair of flats and I wear my comfort shoes until it's time for me to get out of the cr and go in to church, a social event or out with friends or my hubs. I bring my nicer shoes with me and change just before I get out of the car.

Oh, Marie-Anne! You had me in tears of laughter with your presentation! 100% agree on every count. I nearly fainted when my podiatrist sent me to buy a pair of Birkenstocks. I have never bought anything so ugly before. However, since I do have issues with my feet, I wear them when I am alone at home. Never in front of a full length mirror. And, yes, my dogs are not impressed either . Except they know that I am not going anywhere with those shoes!

I have not been able to wear heels since francturing a vertebra in an accident so I appreciate your suggestions for stylish flats. Metallic ballet flats are a great alternative to heels for dressy occasions: I have pewter and bronze ballet flats, as well as a sparkly black pair. The flat sandals that you have are beautiful however I find slides difficult to wear: they are too easy to step out of or to slip while wearing: I prefer sandals that strap in your entire foot securely. Thank you for including the link for buying the sparkly flat sandals: they are beautiful. I would say that flip-flops are useful at the gym to wear in the showers so you do not pick up foot fungus or athlete's foot; but I agree that they are not stylish. My French-speaking mother called them "snappetes" because of the noise they made.

I am one of those people who will never give up my Birkenstocks. However, I don't like the ones with wide straps and big buckles. Birkenstock makes several sandals that are much more elegant than the ones you showed. Also, the sandals you show do not look at all comfortable. They don't have any arch support. I'm with you on everything else though.

Coco is adorable. Love your videos. Birkenstocks are so on trend here in the U.S. They have been for years. I don't understand the appeal for Crocs. They never look like they fit properly. Sneakers are my go-to shoe all year round. I also prefer loafers and ballet flats.

I agree with everything, HOWEVER, some of us are less fortunate. Swollen feet need shoes/ sandals to be adjustable from day to day or from hour to hour. Sandals that you showed are not the answer. I select what are the most acceptable sandals like La Plume, they have adjustment at mid foot, around ankle and the back. Wish I could send you a photo. One has to deal with limitations that life presented are with. Dobrila

I agree with most of what you say, but believe that Birkenstocks are quite stylish and attractive. Certainly more so than the sneakers that you frequently bring up as being okay for casual wear.

I like the video, just the Birkenstock are still great as long as you find the right ones that fit your foot shape and as long they nicely complete your outfit. On the other hand wearing something so flat is not that good for the foot and for the body, especially if you are walking a lot during the day...

I am currently wearing my rose print canvas shoes, my only pair. One of the first questions I ask when selecting the shoes I plan to wear is how far I am walking. My canvas shoes are indoor shoes. Most canvas shoes don't provide enough support for distance walking. They can be stylist and comfortable. When I went out earlier, I switched to my navy blue joggers which are also stylish. I keep my second pair of joggers at the gym for actually working out. Except for sandals, I always wear socks or hose to protect both my feet and the shoes.

Great video! Love Coco! I follow your advice. I'm in Paris and I brought comfortable, stylish shoes with me, more pairs than usual because I'm here for a month. I have two pairs of loafers (1 sling-back), ballet flats, sneakers. I've been walking 6-8 miles a day, and although that's tiring in any shoes, I feel stylish and comfortable. I purchased a trench coat and a cardigan at Sézane!

Shoes are my nemesis… not about comfort but about keeping my back healthy (past injury). Large (long, not wide) feet for which I struggle to find shoes that fit. Shoes that look cute in a size 7 look like clown shoes in a 10/11. Can’t wear flats - need at least 1 1/2 inch to avoid back pain. Slides often do the heel flip/flop thing. Stores are not stocking so ordering online… I’ve returned 5 pairs of sandals in the last month. ‘Wow or Non” takes a backseat to finding something that will fit without pain. Ordering outside of my country 🇨🇦 with such inconsistent sizing between and within the same brands would be a return $ nightmare. The only shoes that I’ve ever worn on the NO list, weren’t mentioned by name, Dr Scholls wooden sandals. I wore them in college, but no more. My fave shoes are ballet flats. I did recently buy a pair of Brooks walking/running shoes on recommendation of my podiatrist. They are perfect for walking for exercise. I also toured the USA southwest, wearing them for safety and support. I think you are spot on with your alternatives.

I agree with all in principle but will come to the defense of Crocs which I wear for quick trips to the garden when it is muddy. I do it because I can step out of them on the back porch and wash them down with the hose; also they do not get damaged if they get wet when I am watering. Yes I could be using Wellies the same way but they are a bit of overkill in dry New Mexico. Thanks for all your videos.

Marie Ann, I actually laughed out loud at certain parts of this video. I wear cute sandals and loafers when I’m out. However, I have osteoporosis and suffer from pain in my hips and back when standing for a long time. When I’m home a wear Crocs clogs as the rubber helps with the pain. Can you suggest an alternative? Your dog is adorbs❤️. Oh, I will be in Paris for one day and night this June. So excited! I am planning my outfit so I look like a “French Chic Lady”.

The same with Converse sneakers - I walked home barefoot, because wearing them was more painful than a rough sidewalk. I tossed my cheap flip flops when I bought the better made Teva which not only look more stylish, they actually stay on my feet, and don't wear out as quickly as cheaply made flip flops. I spent much of my life living in Asia where it is customary to take off shoes indoors. My Tevas are not worn when I go out, even if they do provide some support. I now have two pairs of Keens, both drawing compliments, when I go out instead of flip flops. I would have liked to have known about Keens when I worked in the Middle East where I wore leather sandals daily. The style that criss-cross over my arch are the more flattering on my feet.

I have a nice selection of ballet flats from vionic. They have an arch support in them, so that there are very comfortable for people that have very high arches.😊

i broke a little toe several years ago. The only shoes I could wear without gasping in pain were my Birkenstocks. So, yes, I'm keeping them and my beloved Alegias. Most flats make my back hurt, even if they are padded.

I agree with both you and your lovely assistant. You would have to prise Birkenstocks or Crocs into my cold, dead hands, not out of them! I do have a pair of rubber flipflops, but I only wear them in gym showers and the like, to protect my feet from other people’s verrucas and athlete’s foot (yuck) or at home if I have just painted my toenails and am waiting for them to dry. They are my “guilty secret” shoes and I definitely don't wear them to go out and about. As for the clunky, chunky, plastic shoes, let's just say I am doing my bit for the environment and cutting down on plastic waste!

Heh! That made me laugh. I have a real problem buying shoes in the UK as they are so wide. I also have a high instep so flats are not my favorite. I found some white trainers, finally! They are leather and made by Lacoste! 😀 I am wearing them in around the house. I need comfortable shoes that I can walk for miles in, so I do wear the sport shoes or a pair of Teva sandals quite often. When I go out or to the shops it is different. I have an active lifestyle, so when I go camping in France, what can I do when I am on my bike and visiting the towns?

Mephisto Shoes is a French brand they make very comfortable shoes with padding and arch support. Had to be in Australia but they even make a Birkenstock copy with straps that are thin. I have a pair for 13 years I get non stop compliments on them. I bought them in Paris in 2009, I nearly threw them out, but had them resoled. bionic also has a few good shoes. Many of those flat sneakers aren’t well made and they can hurt your back walking a lot.
