(7) Fluid Bloom/Sheleeart technique using Black Pillow Paint for the base

This is my take on a fluid bloom using a black acrylic paint for the base or pillow as it is referred to in the Sheleeart Technique. I have used a Free Flow X2 Mars Black acrylic mixed with Pebeo Bindex to thicken it up. I prefer to use these products for my pillow as the house paint available in the UK which I have been using lately produces too many air bubbles which are referred to as "measles". The normal acrylic mixed with the Bindex also produces a silky smooth finish and allows the paint to flow smoothy and quickly from corner to corner. I create most of my fluid blooms on ceramic tiles and then scan the originals to a high dpi say 600 then send/email the file/image to my local gallery for them to then print on a large canvas. It is important to obtain a high quality image preferably with a scanner. I use a canon printer/scanner. If you want to make copies of your originals by scanning them it is important not to varnish or resin them beforehand as this can cause glare/reflection issues when you scan. I often place my originals in shadow box frames which are available on eBay.

Thanks for another great video Claire and for doing the leg work on using the alternative to house paint, saves the rest of us time,energy and money in what is already an expensive hobby. Hi Claire! I've really enjoyed watching your videos and I like your honesty and sincerity ...it's quite refreshing. I'm following your recipie on Sheleeart ( I have viewed half of the videos so far) as I have a b&q nearby to get supplies. Do you mix the interior pure brilliant white satin with the pebeo binder or GAC 800? I'm asking because I gave the tin of paint a good mix then decanted into jugs to use later and I thought it was quite thin. Thanks

Hi Elisa thank you for your lovely comment. I don’t add anything to the valspar brilliant white. I do however open the can and give it a good stir then decant in to several smaller containers and leave the lid off slightly. I don’t use it for at least two weeks as it’s terribly thin. Therefore I will use either the X2 titanium white or Mars black and add some Pebeo bindex to thicken it up and I always get excellent results and absolutely no measles/white spots xx

I had a delivery of X2 yesterday but still waiting for the binder and Aus Floetrol to get started with the blooms. Fingers crossed for good results 🙏. Can I do a bloom using Acrylic for the bloom instead of house paint, all mine are cracking.

Yes of course I use a ready to pour acrylic as in this video mixed with Pebeo bindex to thicken it up for the pillow

Once I have made a pouring medium for the bloom, how long will it last in a container? same with the cell activator, can I make a batch, will it keep.
