I'm finally catching up on videos i've missed in the past few weeks and when I saw the title of this video I immediately knew that Silver Bullet would be one of them... definitely a bit sad but also really cool to see how y'all have grown and how things just naturally change over time!

It makes sense that the last game on your list is on the list. You play any game, even one that you love, that often, you’re bound to get burned out a little. Doesn’t mean it isn’t a special game or one that isn’t important to you, it’s just that you’re a little tired of it. Especially when there are so many terrific games in our hobby vying for attention.

I also first really got into board games through Dominion. I still love it, and have 4 full sized expansions for the game that make it awesome to keep bringing back out. While I haven't tried any other deck builders (still trying to find a consistent game group/partner), but I do love that when I pull Dominion out with experienced players, we can easily finish a game in 10-15 minutes, so cranking through multiple games in an hour without replaying any cards.

You guys are SO cute! Love the interactions between you two. Silver Bullet falling was inevitable with the amount of plays last year and evident with the lack of it in your “Top” videos this year. Prelude, which I’m sure you’ve heard many boisterous commendations by now, for Terraforming Mars would be the one expansion that would keep that game strong for awhile and you’d never truly need any of the others. Your Chipmunk songs are a highlight to your synergy on screen and ability to draw in the viewer. I think they would be better served random as they are instead of a dedicated channel so it stays fresh and endearing; lest they go out like a Silver Bullet 😉

1) Love the song Teenage Dirtbag, but hearing you describe it as from your high school days makes me feel so old. 2) Go BILLS! It's been more than 20 years since I stepped foot in Orchard Park for a game (moved down south), and I still remember (and miss) all the snow. 3) I don't actually own any of the games on this list, though some of them have been on my list to buy at some point (Mars, Clank, Seasons, Quacks). 4) Dominion got me started in deckbuilding, but I've played so many since then (though granted, not a lot of variety - Ascension, DC, LOTR, Hobbit, Street Fighter, Resident Evil are the ones I remember). 5) My wife and girls are not as hardcore into gaming as I am (though my older daughter is close), so we don't go too far down the rabbit hole (which also saves me SO much money, LOL). 6) Our rotation of games includes "indie" games gone mainstream, like Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Machi Koro, and 7 Wonders. We also do more family-oriented games like Clue (FX version), Villainous, and a new one, Sidekicks. We like some cooperative games like the Forbidden series and the Choose Your Own Adventure games. And when we want to play marathon games, we pull out Lord of the Rings or Hobbit deckbuilding, Lords of Waterdeep, or Age of Mythology. Most of our other games (2 1/2 closets worth) have fallen out of favor for one reason or another (or were never IN favor with my wife), though the only one that comes to mind specifically is Vegas Showdown.

Fascinating list! It really is interesting when you think back and track your growth as a gamer, how tastes have changed and how interest shifts over time. I think as I got more into heavier games, or games with more complex mechanisms, or heavier storylines, party games became a bit of a casualty for me. Some of my favorites early on was classic Munchkin, or Oatmeal games like Exploding Kittens or Bears vs. Babies. Boss Monster was one of the first games I ever bought at a con, LOVED it at the time, and then revisited it after a few years (not a good sign already) playing other things... and it just didn't land like it used to. Stopped playing Last Night on Earth after exploring more horror-themed games that weren't so dependent on random luck, and Castle Panic (one of the first games I got after discovering Wil Wheaton's TableTop series) bit the dust for us after discovering more complex and less formulaic co-ops.

There is a theme on this list... "We never got the expansions for this game". Nowadays a lot of the games are built up and then stripped down for expansion sales... So if you never get the expansions, you are basically never playing the game the designer really made... Now, there are various quality on those expansions and not all games get better with tons of more stuff. For example, Terraforming Mars has some expansions you shouldn't play it without or I wouldn't play it without. But it has seen the table so many times that it has cooled down. There is no more to see, but for you guys, there is a lot more to see. I would recommend looking at some reviews and other enthusiast opinions on the expansions before getting them. Dominion, my friend has that 20 pound box of dominion, that does not come out all that often, but it sure has things even I haven't even seen yet. But yes, games move forward and newer games usually incorporate old stuff and expand on the original ideas. It is only logical that you get over games especially if it gets heavy table time at every occasion... We are all part of the Cult of the New in one way or the other.

I cooled very unexpectedly to Vagrant Song recently. When we first started it was SOooooo good. We had 8 play throughs and it became exhausting to always look up what was going to happen when you pulled something from the bag. It always felt like the first time you play a game and have to keep checking the rule book. Hard games I expect to check the rules heavily on my first few plays. But then you know them and everything runs smoothly. Vagrant Song just hit a wall because of the constant “now what does this do again” moments between each game.

I haven't cooled on too many games, except some of the earliest games I either overplayed or found my taste changed. These are: pretty much all classic games (Monopoly, Uno, etc), Cranium, Apples to Apples, Catan, and Munchkin. I've also cooled on most pure social deduction games like Werewolf, The Resistance, and Secret Hitler. I had never warmed to base Codenames, but I've gotten positively frosty with the game now and generally avoid it when possible.

You're not wrong about Dominion, being just a mechanic, etc. That being said, I still play it quite often as some of my non gamer friends just want a quick game of slapping cards down and counting up points. If I throw a Clank board in front of them, the heads start shaking...

I still love Dominion and I think it's because I love deckbuilding as a mechanism. I've owned many, many other deckbuilding games including Clank but I didn't enjoy them as much. Those deckbuilders are different - they're not better in my opinion. If I simply love deckbuilding then adding a map to the game doesn't improve it. It changes it, for sure, but so far, I haven't liked anything more when it comes to building my deck and then, like a slot machine, seeing what comes out in my hand next turn. And I get to do that countless times in one game of Dominion. It's still my favourite.

Arcadia Quest was one of the first games I played that made me go, WHOA, this is awesome! I def see Quacks being on here, depending how your luck goes, some love it, some hate it. A game I've cooled on is Thunderstone Quest. Setup is too long and the first few rounds are too samey. Either way, Go Bills!!

@@michellecioppa9152 1) Detroit and Buffalo are certainly more alike than not. I'm glad Detroit could help out during the snowocolyps the other week. 2) Lost Ruins of Arnak has cooled for me. With Endless Winter now out along with Dune, I feel like it is unnecessary in my collection. 3) I agree, have seen a few really nice ones for about $4k on etsy. I have a Game Topper which i put on a folding table and it is fine. Great to be mobile with, but it lacks a lot for a permanent solution in my game room. However, I alternate game nights with my playgroup so it is nice to be portable to take to his house. Game Theory Games seems to have a nice one around $3k.

I LOVED Seasons and owned EVERYTHING for it until we played it a few years ago and the feeling just wasn't there anymore. With BGA, you can play a game in 20 minutes so I had to unload my copy.

Quacks is so low on my list because in Dominion, if you buy a great card, you WILL see it at some point. In Quacks, you buy a great ingredient - you may not see it. That's super frustrating for me, and doesn't give me a great feeling about building an engine.

I have cooled on the game that really got me into the hobby, Settlers of Catan. I taught Settlers to more people than I can count, but there are so many better games nowadays than back then. I still like Dominion (caveat I haven't played it in 1 to 2 years, double caveat I haven't played many games since we got our dog 1.5 years ago).

Clank is on my shelf of shame :X I cooled down on Gaia (it was a long time ago, a friend's mother broke the game for me), Res arcana because of BGA(people broke the game for me) and Seasons too, i feel like there is nothing new to see/try Quacks is at my parent's house and we play it time to time, it's easy to introduce and play.

@@FostertheMeeple i guess i was used to play with my boyfriend and mom, and our only objective was to have fun with the game, not just win. When i started playing on BGA, i joined random tables and some player just want the win, so they will do 1 action for the whole game which is stock tokens(ressources) on a card then at the end they transform it for gold and buy all the monument card...and it's just one of the many i saw while playing on BGA and it just take all the fun from the game for me...if people can do that, then to me the game is broke.

My son and I play Hero Realms a LOT. Hero Realms and StarRealms set up much faster than Dominion and play faster and that is what we need more often. Hero Realms expands to a three player game better than Star Realms does

Just add the prelude expansion for Terraforming Mars it'll speed the game up .Turmoil can slow it down. My group plays TM with Prelude, Venuscandcwe alternate maps. I'm with Jeff on Quacks, just not that excited about it.
