If Leverkusen manages to win the Europa League and the cup final this week, my opinion is that this season belongs on such a short list, on account of them being invincible across all three competitions they played. That's still two games away, but it's an unprecedented level of greatness. Even if it's the Europa League rather than the Champions League, this is also Leverkusen, rather than a super-club like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Even though I passionatly hate Bayern, I have to agree. There is even some pure comedy gold in that story: Bayern only lost one game during the 2012/13 Bundesliga season, setting the still standing points record (91 out of 104). The team went on to thrash everyone in the league, won a Libertadores after a 5-0 home win semifinal against national rival Gremio (where the 1-1 tie away was even more one sided funnily enough) and an epic final where they Man Utded River Plate. Hell that final was on a Saturday and they clinched the league title less than 24h later after Palmeiras lost 2-0 at home to Gremio, and then went on to play a very competitive Club World Cup final against Liverpool who were on top form at Premier League. That second semester was magical to every Flamengo supporter whether you saw the legendary team from the 80s or not

The Champions League Final was also one of the greatest game for Milan, considering they obliterated the strongest Barcelona team under Johan Cruyff by not using their own strongest team, as some key players were either suspended (Baresi and Costacurta) or injured (Van Basten). Ha! An European KZbinr, nay, a KZbinr or football personality outside of Brazil remembered the GOAT Tele Santana! I can finally die in peace. 🤭

The Club World Cup took place in 2021, but still retained its 2020 edition, so it's being counted.

What celtic did winning with a local team will never be matched and for me that makes it all the more special. Football is too global for that. These days it's noteworthy for teams to have more than a couple local lads like foden at City or trent at Liverpool

*_if_* Leverkusen manages the invincible treble, I'll put them at #1 2012/2013 Bayern deserves a mention, though. People focus too much on beating Barca (there was barely any Barca left), but their other achievements that season were much more notable.
@almophant16738 ай бұрын
Won the treble. Got the Bundesliga points record with 91 points (one more than unbeaten Leverkusen this season), only losing one game in the league to Leverkusen. They lost twice in the CL to Bate Baryssau from Belarus in the group stage and to Arsenal in the Round of 16. That is like the only thing you could hold against them. 2012/13 was in my opinion the best season a German club has ever played before this season.

Wouldn't put Leverkusen first even if they had won all competitions... coz it ain't about only stats. Obciously it's an all time great season but Ajax winning the true treble twice with 1 loss all season for me would have been better than Leverkusen winning the europa league treble umbeaten. Also the reason Barca 10/11 is considered the club's best ever side ahead of the 14/15 side who actually statistically is a bit better... coz we understand context, we watched the teams play and have a bit of common sense
@Wladislav8 ай бұрын
@@Luckymag-if4dw we do have common sense, and that's why Leverkusen had the potential to be the #1. There are no all-time great players on that team, unlike basically every other team on this list, including the ones you mentioned. They were in the relegation spots when Xabi took over as well. All these things factor into it.

Hey Alfie, love the vids. As a New England Revs fan in the MLS I hope you do a “What is happening at” video for our club xd. We were champions 4 years ago and now we’re sitting bottom of the league. American sports don’t really have as big of a risk as European football with relegation, so I doubt Porter will be getting the sack this season despite 90% of the fans wanting him out

Nottingham Forest late 70’s? Promoted to Division 1, winning it after promotion, winning back to back European cup - and going unbeaten for 42 games ?!

Thank you for at least mentioning rangers Alfie, as a rangers fan I am incredibly jealous of Celtic winning the European cup with a full homegrown squad.
