Dude, they made an entire *island* in tribute, not just a genie. There’s multiple things scattered on that little piece of rock that hint to his other famous roles, like Mrs. Doubtfire for example. And as someone previously addicted WoW who no longer plays, no. No you do not. I highly discourage playing it, not just because it’s a dangerously addictive money sinkhole but also because the company behind it is terrible to its fans and its employees alike. Just look up footage of it on KZbin, it’ll save you the hassle.

Can't believe you missed the Borderlands 2 Easter Egg to Michael Mamaril. Gearbox had finished production when they received a message from Mamaril's friend about how the two had spent hours in the Borderlands and how he had since died. Gearbox not only recorded a beautiful eulogy to Mamaril by Claptrap's voice actor, but also went back in and added him as an NPC you can engage with and that gives an achievement. The NPC Botrick isn’t the only reference to Iwata in the game. Just a short horse ride away from where Botrick is found is Satori Mountain, where the rare mount The Lord of the Mountain will occasionally appear. The Hyrule Compendium entry for it states: “This noble creature watches over all animals that make their homes in the forest. Legends say this holy creature is a reincarnation of a sage that died on the lands it now protects.” This creature is also known as Satori, which is a portmanteau of Satoru and Iwata. Even though Iwata passed away, he’s still with us, watching over Hyrule...

Another Halo related easter egg that doesn't require a beloved person to past away, but still feels like one is the Tribute room in Halo Reach, Bungie's last game of the Halo franchise. That room is a heartwarming and tear jerking tribute to the fans of the series with in game and real world references in it. Examples are shoutouts to Roosterteeth and their Red vs Blue series, a shoutout to the people of 2005 that together with Bungie gathered a lot of money in a community event to donate to victims of a flooding that happened in the same year and referecenses to many easter eggs of the series. That place made me cry!

Nintendo's Iwata tributes were all really incredible. There's more references to him in Breath of the Wild than just the character; there's also a mountain named after him (Satori Mountain) and it's theorized that the Lord of the Mountain you can find there was meant to be a reference to him as well. Its Hyrule Compendium entry states: "This noble creature watches over all animals that make their homes in the forest. Legends say this holy creature is a reincarnation of a sage that died on the lands it now protects...it's sometimes known by its other name, Satori."

"Darling, miss you _so_ much, but we're all _very_ proud of you! Only a few more remain, then the time for the Great Ablation will be at hand." 'Course, the Foul Tongue _is_ a little hard to translate into code... well... without _side-effects,_ at least.

I think that the only way to do that right would be to use cgi to animate the letters so that they flow properly.

Probably my favorite was Michael Mamaril. Borderlands added this loyal fan into Borderlands 2. If you found him he would give you a free high-grade weapon for your level and an achievement. It was to pay homage to Michael who passed away at the age of 22. His friend wrote Gearbox asking Claptrap to do a eulogy for him. Which they did and they added him as an NPC to Borderlands 2.

How touching. Those easter eggs are really touching. Hey, O.X., is there a list of heartwarming MOMENTS in games? I think you should make one if you already haven't.

#1 still breaks my heart.... the E3 presentation was laughed at and ridiculed because it introduced the Switch which, at the time, was looked upon as doomed to fail. Shortly after the news came that Mr Iwata had passed, and people felt bad that they were giving him such a hard time right before his death. Now, 7 years later, Switch is one of the most inovative consoles to ever come out, greatly loved and charished by fans of all ages, and is slowly moving Nintendo into a position to eventually compete to once again be #1 in the console market. Mr Iwata, you are greatly missed and I hope you know you left an amazing legacy behind.

It's Missle! Another one that's worth mentioning is the one in Overwatch, where in one of the maps there was a spacesuit with a name above it. The name was of a man who was really looking forward to the game, but was killed when he tried to stop a man from stealing his friend's bike. Blizzard added the name as a tribute.

Halo 5, on the maps Torque and Tidal it is possible to see the names 'Lena' and 'Trinity' when you look up at the night sky. This is a tribute to a Halo fan, whose daughters of the same names, died in a house fire. A special animated emblem was also handed out to commemorate their loss.

Shadow of war: Forthog Orc-Slayer, a guy on the development team of Monolith died and as a tribute they featured him in the game as a random savior when you are about to die and on top of that, Monolith has confirmed a FREE DLC for the game about "Forthog Orc - Slayer" aka Michael Fogey. The trailer always brings tears to my eyes.

There are a lot of sweet easter eggs in WoW, but I think the sweetest one is the quest Kyle's Gone Missing! in the Tauren starter zone. It was created with a young boy from Make-a-Wish who later passed away. He is even the voice of the quest giver.

I would have guessed that the halo one was the Happy Birthday message in one of the games. Also if you want to pay homage to Robin Williams why not also make the character's name Robin or William? Least go that extra mile for your homages.

Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road DLC. In the Cave of the Abaddon you can find a petrified dog statue called Seymour if you have the Wild Wasteland perk. The story goes that after it's owner Sunflower Summers was killed by the military, it stayed with her until it died and petrified. It can be picked up and taken with you as it weighs nothing.
