I'm an older gentleman and enjoy your videos. Your first item addressed making cocktails. I, too, have a home bar. One thing that I've found enhances the bar is that my Old Fashioned glasses do not match. It's easy to buy a 4 or 8 glass set of matching glasses, but I've gone to some thrift shops and have picked up 1 or 2 unique glasses. This allows each person to have their own unique glass and there is always a story behind that particular glass.

I’m not necessarily your target audience, a gentleman in his early 60’s. I enjoy your videos and think your mission is desperately needed today. Here are a few thoughts on things I’ve found essential over the years: Cocktails - you need a collection of 6 tumblers of very high quality and different but compatible designs. Mine are Salviati … expensive, elegant, and just the right weight. You should have completely clear ice cubes on hand. You can purchase a simple and inexpensive tray that makes 4 at a time. A quality woman will immediately recognize your attention to detail. A small supply of the finest garnishes is a necessity. Luxardo cherries, Castelvetrano olives, and fresh lemons are a good start. Know how to make 4 key drinks: a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, a Martini, and a Negroni. A great book on cocktails is Death & Co. Lighting - your comments on lighting are spot on. I also use only 2700 degree Kelvin lighting. The color is a perfect soft white, similar to the glow of a candle or twilight on a clear evening. I also avoid down lights, particularly in front of a mirror. They tend to cast shadows that make your guests feel uncomfortable. Your videos are very nicely done and enjoyable, keep them coming.

The tips on ambience and decor are much appreciated. One suggestion (if I may): The crumpled tube of Colgate stood out on your otherwise immaculate counter. I, a man much older but not as wise, have spent years trying to find the best (and most gentlemanly...) toothpaste. That epic quest ended years ago when I stumbled upon the Italian brand Marvis. The packaging is refined, sure, but more importantly the taste of the paste is exceptional. Just like a luxurious cream can take shaving from a nick-filled chore to an enjoyable, even meditative, experience, so can sophisticated toothpaste elevate the dull act of brushing into something enjoyable, even anticipated. There's an assortment of flavors to choose from. our preference will, of course, differ from mine, but I'm partial to anise, cinnamon, and jasmine.

There are many things you can do to add personality and interest to your home. I'll add something rarely suggested. Something old from your family. Some picture, statue, or knickknack that came from a grandparent or parent, and intended to remind you of your roots. Something that keeps hidden a story about where you came from. It needn't by dramatic or fully explain your family history. "This is the key my great-great-great grandfather fashioned from the frame of his bunk, in order to escape from the dungeon that evil King (X) threw him in for making a pass at the Princess." It can be anything that once belonged to someone in your past, and serves to remind you. A woman friend advised to have essentials for a female overnight. Makeup remover, hair brush, a Dyson hair dryer for the long hair, extra toothbrush, a small magnifying miror for makeup next morning, a hair scrunchie so she can wash her face, extra new towels..unused so she knows she is special. A clean bathrobe..yours..so she can wrap herself in comfort next morning. Mixed comments on a mirror opposite the bed. Some are horrified at the thought, some not. Maybe just don't and keep her comfortable. Full length mirror so she can confirm her outfit looks smashing! And low light options everywhere.

If you have a signature scent, a tiny bit on the bathrobe that can only be smelled when it is worn, might be a psychological ploy to have her thinking off you even when you are not in the same room. Thanks for the Cheat Sheet, I downloaded it. I would add clean towels and bedding. These should only be used when women are over, not your everyday towels. You may not bed a woman every time one comes over, but best to be ready just in case. The towels just for her should look like your towels (ie. don't buy girlie towels) but because you are going to pull them out only when guests come over, they will stay in a better condition for longer. It also saves you from forgetting to do laundry and having nothing but a smelly towel you used for the last two or three days. Household Sprezzatura, you want the bedding and towels already in place when guests come over, you don't want to scramble while they are there. It gives the "effortless" impression that you always live with fresh, clean, unworn towels and bedding.

In my opinion it is substantial to have a home with a personal style. Homes that have been furnished at once haven’t a story and convey the charme of an exchangeable hotel lobby, regardless what you spent for it . Mix two or three topics that have a corespondent colour, material or pattern. Avoid sets of accessories. Collect photographs of your loved ones, favorite places, you‘ve been to or snappshots of your friends in moments that mean something to you. Do picture editing with these pictures. Just pick a detail from the photos and make a series from it for example a collection of different hands, smiling lips or a collection of cut out different sunglasses, whatever you want. Buy picture frames, that have different designs and sizes but the same material and same range of color. Arrange the picture collection in them in clusters that have a shape. A line, a square, a circle, a smile. Before you hang them up. arrange them on the floor to see, what is the best combination and try to leave evenly space between the frames. If you choose to have such a flat like in the video with a modest selection of colors, make it a composition, that leads the eye subtly through the whole room. In this case, the guy has a favorite lamp with a green shade. It would be beautiful, when he would have a vase in the same green somewhere in the other corner of the room, or cocktail glasses that pick up the color, in an array of cushions on the sofa „accidentally“ one in the same green, or in a collection of white picture frames one in that green. Just three green details are sufficient to make the lamp not an alien object anymore. If you are in „Bauhaus design“, watch out for lamps or objects on Ebay and let it appear in the flat. Or maybe collect backlight shades from old Jaguars from Ebay or a flea market to hang three of them next to the picture. Let your fantasy flow with the topics of your interior, maybe a glass sculpture of a that animal supports your taste. (An interesting addition to this particular coffee table would be a book about Hardy Amies or „ABC of men’s fashion“ by himself. It is always good to know the background of your favorite topics from people who epitomized it, when you not already have read something about him. ) Do not think, it is unmanly to pay attention to your personal home. Make it for yourself, not to impress others. They will be impressed automatically, when they share your personality that is perceptible in an unique atmosphere of your place. It is good for your personal development to boldly spend a few thoughts and some time in your home as it will give you energy, when you’ll love it, when it is personal and beautiful. You deserve a place that is not merely a shelter for the weather, but a home where you love to be and that makes you feel happy for every single detail. The next stage level is: How your place gets prepared easily for a date. Have always candles or votives at home. You and your date will always look better in a romantic light than illuminated with a ceiling lamp undimmed lamps around. Be patient and let your home improve slowly!
@genevievel5309Ай бұрын
Nice idea to have a coffee table book but it would be more interesting for any lady visitors to have a book which would be more appealing for them - an art book, photography - anything as long as it is of interest to you as well. Also more books and music add ambience to a home.

The other thing that I really enjoyed is you're keeping it clean with respect to illegal drugs or any reference to drug paraphernalia. A true gentleman never takes anything more powerful than a legal cocktail. In many states, cannabis is legal, but the smell is so terrible that most women and friends will not like the smell of cannabis within your place. Perhaps you might have mentioned something about an espresso machine, or some kind of coffee facility, but the problem is there are so many junk items available for any gentleman's pad that there is a risk of overdoing the basic decorative recommendations. I like the way you kept it simple, tidy, and clean. Excellent video!

@RoadKing227 ай бұрын
If space is an issue and a receiver would not be practicable , I would suggest the Marshall Bluetooth speaker(acton III). The retro style is very appealing and the sound is pretty good.
@TheLegendaryDoc4 ай бұрын
@@RoadKing22 An absolute No-Go. Those types of speakers a crappy. And bluetooth is absolute rubbish. Marshall makes guitar amplifiers, not decent speakers. Bowers & Wilkins, KEF, Canton, Dali, these companies make decent speakers. You don‘t buy Levi‘s shoes, do you?

Upgrading the cocktail supplies will be a good move. Cocktail Kingdom has the Koriko shaker tins and the best Hawthorn strainer in the business. I also agree the music is the main missing element here. Vinyl or a good blue tooth system will work.

In my opinion nothing says old money and class, more than having a few pieces of antique furniture . Perhaps not suitable in a small bachelor flat but definitely food for thought.

Great video! I’m really enjoying your channel. One tip regarding cocktails: be sure to keep vermouth, once opened, in the refrigerator until use and not on your bar. Being a fortified wine, it is not shelf stable. And replace every month or so. Vermouth that has turned will ruin a classic cocktail like a Manhattan or martini.

A few more items for you; decent towels, a full length bath robe, and a really nice espresso maker with quality cups and saucers. If you like tea-I find that an ornate but elegant tea set is comforting.

1700s Villeroy and Bosch is simply stunning. The former pope used these dishes too. My favorite artist is Tamara de Lempika from the 1920s. My lights are from Italy 🇮🇹.

I know that shaker from the cocktail set, be careful because the seal on that thing isn’t perfect and you might end up with some leakage.
@Gent.Z7 ай бұрын
This shaker is actually not very good. I find the opposite problem, it gets jammed too easy. I have two hold the seal with my fingers to prevent it closing fully. I might get a better one for practical use and keep this just for display

Awesome video. Well done. Bar Tip - if you have room, put your vodka and gin in the freezer. That will elevate your martini, Cheers.

Bookshelf with books on topics of your interest is necessary. It shows you are well read and sophisticated. A vanity mirror helps check for blemishes and outfit mishaps a bathroom mirror will often miss. And every good home needs a cat.

Chicago has strong ties to UK Culture. It was the Home of Chess Records created by Two Brothers Phil & Leonard Chess who are of Polish Background. Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, Howlin Wolf, and Muddy Waters were major influences on not only The Beach Boys, but The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Moody Blues, Rolling Stones & Yardbirds whose ripple effect still exists to this day.

Keep your place cleanish and neatish, and not cluttered. (Translation: you're squared away, but not obsessively clean) A book shelf with books is always a conversational piece, if you read. (Translation: you are interesting, maybe intelligent) Plants and maybe a fish. (You can take care of something).

A nice and elegant coke tray, with a glass straw and a platinum credit card is also a must have on every gentleman's kitchen counter. Not only wil it show your guests that you have class, money and interesting connections, it will also indicate that you're fun and a great conversationalist later in the evening.

My 5c worth will be to have either a Cognac, Irish, or Scotish whisky in its original bottle with the cocktail bar set. I'm not to fond of bourbon but that will also work. Ensure that you have elegant cognac and/or whiskey glasses. Obvious but people do miss this. I would personally have gone for a more colorful Bauhaus. Even do a commission with a local budding artist. Then finally.....there must a deep wingback leather chair. Preferably in an old English style to complement the nearby bankers desk lamp. This chair is used to sit and read those timeless classic novels. Be it Charles Dickens or Isaac Azimov. Also, to sit back after a hard day earning your keep, sipping that cognac. Listening to a piece of acid jazz or Pink Floyd.

Love the cocktail set up; minimal, clean and all that you'd need for the most popular or basic/ elegant cocktails. It would be a turn off for me as a woman if a gent had too heavy an emphasis on "the bar" area; not in good taste. But yours is elegant and simple.
