The planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. -David Orr Thanks for your stories Ben and Mary!

I dunno, Ben: By my lights, I actually WOULD call you and Mary uber-super successful. Thank you for helping to put us on a similar growth curve, and march onward to '24!🙌

“Saying no to good, so you can say yes to great” This really hit for me watching the video, I’m doing mindset planning to bring into 2024 and this might be my quote for the year! Thanks so much Ben!

I love your videos. Especially your point about seeking positivity. On this one, I think it's most important to truly nail down what success looks like to you. For me, I don't want my gravestone to read "she read a disciplined life". I want it to say "she led a FULL life". For me, that means not organizing my life around 1 particular thing, but exploring many different things, deciding what few things i want to focus on that quarter or year, and enjoying balance along the way. A milk shake (or whatever your favorite foods are) every now and then is part of it. I'm huge on constant improvement and education. I'm learning a second language on Duolingo, and am studying finance and biology through Khan University... both free. Every day, time is set aside for exercise, learning, business, husband, and yes... lazy recharging. My full life might look like absolute chaos to others... i joked with my husband last night that I'm not a master at any 1 thing, but I'm really decent at many things. I've built the life i want, and am becoming the best version of myself i can be, including training for a 50 miler. That, for me, is a successful life.

I am so glad I came across your channel. Over the years I have watched so many runners share their experiences and growth and, "what we need to do to be successful." Your channel is the only one that has truly inspired me and kept me coming back and on track with my running growth. Your humor, experience, humility, and positivity has made such a positive impact on my running and life in general. Of course all of this includes Mary. Happy New Year to you both and to Winnie and Jessie! 🎉

Ben and Mary, I’d like to thank you for all your content this year - you’ve had an enormous effect on my approach to running, even my approach to life. From the awesome mindfulness videos to the practical training advice, I’ve found myself making material improvements to performance, as well as coping with injury and adversity. Wishing you both all the best for 2024.

I love you guys. Over the past few years you have actually significantly helped improved my life and the lives of my family members. I know it might sound insincere but it’s simply true. Your videos make a big difference in people’s lives. Blessings to you both 🙏❤️

Great advice! For most of us we make a major mistake of relying on motivation and never realise that it's discipline that we're missing. I've made two changes that have had huge knock-on effects: 1) a PT/strength coach; 2) a run coach. Both of these remove the reliance on motivation and give me accountability. We set goals and plan to achieve them and then it's as simple as following the plan! Couple that with tips from awesome folks like yourselves and it's become easier. Having a plan means the other things like diet, sleep, and alcohol consumption have context and a reason to manage. Reflection has become a bit of a buzz-word over the last couple of years but you highlighted the key - reflect and ACT! Without action reflection becomes somewhat meaningless.

Being reflective and positive are probably the best traits someone can work on and develop for a healthy lifestyle 👍🏼 On the contrary, I always find it interesting that you will forgo a milkshake but eat something covered in oils and cheeses. If sugar is your crux I get trying to limit it, just try not to be too restrictive day in and day out without a bit of a break from time to time.

This is a really great video! Every point is perfect and I have always known about the idea of the Sigmond Curve but I never knew it had a name. I see so many people who keep grinding away doing things the same way because to change might mean they fall back very briefly....and they can't accept that. I love that concept.

Hi Ben, how do you work out the aimed marathon finishing time? What was the process for working out you wanted to run NYC in 2:48 for example?

Great question, Bernie. For me, Atomic Habits (James Clear), Start with Why (Simon Sinek), Grit (Angela Duckworth), How Bad Do You Want It (Matt Fitzgerald) and Black Box Thinking (Matthew Syed). All game changers for me 😊
