The Active duty life is what really interests me but due to some responsibilities at home the reserve competent is what would fit best in life for me. With that in mind how likely (or unlikely) would it be for me In the reserves to get selected to go on deployments abroad? My understanding is that it’s voluntary and in my case I would want to do those things. Could I volunteer for deployments or assignments outside of my regular duties and actually stand a chance of getting on a ship? is this a competitive process? Is it even common is for the average reserve Sailor to be selected for those assignments if so. That was a little unclear to me in this video, Thank you in advance!
@NavyTransitionCoach2 жыл бұрын
You can request a mobilization or regular orders anywhere between a few days and a few years. Going on a ship depends on many factors. Sometimes it’s who you know and other times it’s what unit you are attached to. Due to COVID I can’t say what is normal, slow, or quick. Many things have changed. In regards to being active of Reserve, think about how the benefits will best fit you.

The Navy Reserves is very flexible however sometimes the unit is not when it comes to their Annual Training. My unit requires the first AT to be complete with them. Anything else is a go. I'm trying to understand the Early Retirement process. If I have 15 years Active service and want to finish my last 4 years in the Reserves(SELRES), would retirement pay be reduced by 15 years from age 60. So I'd get it at at age 45?
@NavyTransitionCoach Жыл бұрын
Great question. Unfortunately I do not know and I highly doubt it. The earliest age I've heard is 55ys old. I'm sure you have a reason to want to finish your last 4 years in SELRES but it would be fiscally beneficial to spend that time on active duty so that you can collect retirement pay asap not matter your age. The Reserves won't even allow you to do any type of active drilling or orders once you hit 16 years. Meaning it won't be beneficial to you but for retirement only.
