There's the Salarian on Sur'Kesh who keeps asking you not to push a random button and getting fed up as you continue until he turns the button off. Okay you guys need to do a comments section version of this because you missed the absolute best and most iconic NPC freak out: The Merchant in The Messenger. If you keep check his cabinet when he has told you to knock it off he will get progressively more annoyed, even warning you that he will punish you. If you are dumb enough (or curious enough) to find out your punishment he tells you a VERY LONG and VERY BORING story for 5 minutes straight while using the slowest text speed and disabling your ability to skip text. I fell out of my chair laughing when I discovered this.

Gruntilda the witch from _Banjo-Kazooie_ . She’s just like Mr. Resetti with one small difference - her threat isn’t a bluff. Using a cheat code gets you a slap on the wrist, a repeat offense, and Gruntilda gives you a much more stern warning that entering a third code will see her erase your game save data, and on strike 3, well, she... ( _checks notes_ ) ...ahh, yes, erases your save game data. WHOOPS! *😅*

I will never forget the save moogle from FFIX who goes full Tonberry on you if you call him too many times without needing him for anything by saying he's sharpening his knife. Now, technically, nothing actually comes from it if you continue bothering him but when your a 9 year old child & you hear that coming from a creature who you thought was relatively harmless & was your little save buddy, you kind of don't want to find out what happens if you did continue to annoy him. Also, you just know if the devs had been able to program it that adorable moogle would have absolutely ko'ed the entire party for annoying him too many times & maybe even flat out refuse to save again until you apologized to him

The hostile monk mechanic was also used in Soul Reaver at the Citadel. The very first human you come across still sees you as an enemy vampire so attacks you. But if you ignore him and move on, the whole city will become passive... unless you attack literally any human.

Seeing that zelda entry reminds me of the hinox you meet in the legend of zelda: a link between world. You basically shake him down for rupees as he tries to bargin with you to keep his hiding spot a secret. You could accept his first offer of a few rupees or you can ask for more increasingly more amounts of rupees. Ask for too much and he goes ballistic and becomes invincible as he attacks you until you leave. Come back and he rages again.

Animal Crossing isn't the only one to pull the "fake reset trick" Let me take you back to the 2D world of Legend of Zelda More specifically, Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons. In the subworld of the game, called Subrosia, if you wander enough, you meet an NPC known as the Sign Loving Subrosian. If you go inside his house and talk to him, he rhapsodizes about signs for a bite, before checking to see how many signs you've destroyed. If you haven't destroyed any he's happy, but once you've destroyed a sin or two, he starts getting upset, and starts telling you off for doing so. But if there's one thing Link loves, its destroying other people's property. Also, there's a sign conveniently located right outside the Sign Loving Subrosian's house for easy sign grinding. The Sign-Loving Subrosian gets increasingly upset and angry as you destroy more signs, but nothing changes apart from his dialogue. Until you've destroyed 100 signs, at which point the Subrosian gets so angry, they fake restart the game. Then, they give you a ring, commemorating the fact you destroyed 100 signs. They say its to remind you not to do that again. I say it's a free ring.

One that of course comes to mind is the shopkeeper from Link's Awakening, who'll not only straight up murder you if you come back after stealing from his shop, but permanently changes your name to THIEF. Of course, there's always the classic from Halo, where if you shoot/melee/grenade too many friendlies, they'll turn their guns back on you.

You forgot to mention the most savage npc in gaming history; the Cuccos. They endure multiple sword slashes from Link, “the legendary Hero” without even a scratch. And when they had enough, they call their brethren to bombard him with talons and beaks, following to the ends of the earth until they have decided he sure have learned his lesson. If not… they will have to teach him again and again until he does.

I remember purposely resetting the game, just to see what resetti will say next. I did it for hours, at the end, he understood that I was just messing with him, he became depressed and left. There were just a sign instead of him. Then his brother start to replace him doing the job. But he was a lot nicer and dumber than him. He mentioned that resseti quit and leave his family too. It amazed me how much stuff they add to this character

I think the most famous example would be Luis Sera from Resident Evil 4. During the cabin survival fight, you and Luis have to hold out against a hord of villagers, and just like those villagers, Luis also doesn't take kindly to getting a bullet in the face! Do too much damage to him, and he will straight up kill Leon in a cutscene!

Resetti was always so weird to me. Because like... Nintendo expressly did not add an autosave, but DID in some respect because there needs to be some level of autosave for Resetti to "know" if you reset your game. Like they went out of their way to NOT add a useful autosave, but put an annoying NPC in its place.

Connie from Steambot Chronicles. From the very start, you can be a massive jerk to her, telling her to be quiet when she's simply showing concern for you, the unconscious person she just found lying washed ashore amidst a shipwreck. From there, you can surrender her to a thief who tries to gatekeep you from reaching a nearby safe place, troll her telling her the wrong description of an event you just witnessed, and demanding money from her. This last one can be done multiple times throughout the story, culminating in Connie angrily giving handing an "IOU" note, which you can then subsequently attempt to cash in on in the post-game, whereupon she finally calls you a jerk for demanding handouts from her.
