I believe all of these 7 office politics( and other more) come from insecurity of our own value. Companies are organized in a hierarchical system which require the employess to perform well, be competitive and have a better impression in front of the boss. In order to get ahead, Many of them would use tricks as a substitution for the lack of mindful solution. It takes more of your compassion to be a good leader

That's an interesting insight about how these office politics could be used as a trick to get ahead when leaders don't have a more mindful, and I'd add, ethical solution. It's basically an easy or "get what you want quickly" strategy. There's probably many cases where that happens.

Everything Kara has stated here is modus operandi in my workplace. The secret is identifying these behaviours and dismantling the structures that allowed them to occur.

I have no problem treating good employees better than bad employees. To me that isn't playing favorites, it's rewarding good behavior. You want to be treated better? Then do better.

How do you define a good employee? I think an employee should be what the boss wants them to be. That is how you become a good employee.

How do you define a bad employee? I have not experienced one in my team. I had only one who couldn't handle the pressure and got a burnout (unfortunately this is a company's policy to squeeze all the juices out) and that was the reason for underperforming and quitting). All of the team members are pretty equal. They all have good qualities and some where they are lacking - which does not mean that they are bad, but only that each of them has a strong side and you as a leader need to know how to use it.

So far, I met one black executive director who is very open and honesty. Other then that, I have never seen anyone with integrity, honesty, and fair treatment. I've seen many who favored other co-workers. This situation, including educated and uneducated people in this country.
