These are two of the nicest guys that ever played the game! They like and respect each other! Nick Varner was winning everything from 88 to 90. Efren didn't start winning major tournaments until 7 or 8 years later! Then he has dominated pool Both great great players!! They have played many many great matches.

Nick is not a man that needs humbling. He is as humble as they come, naturally. And he put a few beatings on Efren over the years.
@poolpassionАй бұрын
never seen Efren beaten by this guy. do you know a match so we can watch
@LifeCycle1978Ай бұрын
@@poolpassionnice try. These guys played at a time when not everything was recorded. Per the WPA scorecard, Nick has beaten Efren in just under 50% of their meetups although Efren won the bigger matches. It’s okay to be a fanboy, just make sure your love for a player doesn’t overshadow the facts or distort who o other players are.
@johnbeecher1108Ай бұрын
@@poolpassion , Nick won 9 out of either 11 or 13 tour stops in i believe it was 1989. So theres a pretty good chance that he toom Efren out at one of those, assuming Efren was in the states that year. So thats where i would look.

I think he is just metaphorically speaking in the title. You can tell he has mad love for Efren. You are also correct though in regards to the fact that Nick is a very humble man. I just watched a Strickland vs Reyes match and the immaturity that Strickland showed was appalling and very disheartening as an American…. Reminded me of a child who needed his a** busted 😂

This is the closest match I have seen of Efren. But, I always hold Efren as the All Time Greatest Player. He has the extraordinary skill, unbelievable humbleness that shows that apart from his skill, he also had the rare wisdom which had helped him at the most difficult period in a tough match situations.

@@chuckyboog are you blind? Do you not see the avatar where it claims nick asked efren "who are you?" Nick would never say that and nick is fully aware who efren reyes was in 1994. I assume you're only talking about 9 ball here. A few of these guys are almost exclusively 9 ball players. And Reyes isn't the best 9 ball player of all time, Strickland has a good argument for that. But all disciplines Reyes is the best.
@johnrltrАй бұрын
@@joemac999 I'm fairly certain you're correct that Reyes had the best overall record considering 9-ball; 8-ball; and straight pool. I think Sigel (and maybe Strickland and Souquet) had the edge over Efren in 9 ball. But very likely that Reyes had the best won/loss overall in big money games. Reyes once stated that he considered Sigel the best of all time in 9 ball.

I love the videos about Efren doing his stuff, but I would second some of the comments in that you portray Efren's opponents as all being brash and arrogant. Some are, and undoubtedly it is part of their 'act' e.g. CJ Wiley, and even to an extent Earl (he could back it up) but most people in the pool world have long since learned total respect for what Efren could do. Nick Varner aka Kentucky General would have been well aware of the abilities of the Magician by the time this event took place and respected them. I thank you for posting the video because I wasn't there to see it in person. However you don't need to.manufacture an opponent being arrogant to portray Efren's genius. Just keep posting new and unique footage of the maestro and we'll keep watching. Sure, anytime Efren got one over on a disrespectful clown its great, but 99% of people knew and wanted the challenge only Efren can provide, and continues to provide in his older years.
