Water sleeve for my strap so I can reach my water bottle easier. I also recently got a hydration hose adapter from Etsy for my nalgenes which I’m really looking forward to using bc I don’t always use smart water type bottles. And trail runners for summer hiking.

Well done with wool sweater. Wool is a super fibre. fire/melt resistant. Won't get ruined by a stray spark a hot piece of metal.

6:27 I’ve been using the same four regular “disposable” zip-top bags for the last at least year, to pack oatmeal and sandwiches to work with me everyday. So when I went backpacking the other day, naturally, I used it. Some so-called disposable stuff is a lot more durable than we give it credit for.

2:30 I bought one of those tiny pocket-sized umbrellas about ten years ago (about three years before life’s complications made backpacking impossible for a few years) it worked great, it folded up very compact and kept the rain off my upper body and backpack. It was perfect for those drizzly days. I am just now trying to get back into backpacking and I found one of those pocket-sized umbrellas at a thrift store for $1.99! I’m excited to get back out there and backpack again.

As a person who wears glasses , umbrellas also lessen how often you have to wipe the lenses when raining.

As someone who live in a country where wind is extremely common a umbrella would never work for me😅 but I would recommend recommend a baseball cap for anyone who can’t bring an umbrella but want the rain (or sun) out of their face. I love wool clothes. About 80% of my hiking clothes are made out of wool. It’s great for keeping you warm even I you get wet. Trekking poles are gold. I bought one pair for my latest hike and it was gold when I had to get across streams and smaller rivers and needed that extra stability. I have heard a few people talk about the microbial cloth at this point. I’m very tempted to try it but also very skeptical. Have a great day!

My umbrella has been a godsend! I had someone stop me on my last trip to inquire about mine. I guess he lived in Mojave, and I was like, You'll definitely be happy with one of these!! I LOVE it when the sun is at my face and my hood doesn't protect me like it does from my backside. To that end, sun gloves have been wonderful. My hands are happier on my trekking poles, and I don't have to worry about remembering to put sunscreen on the backs of my hands.

U will use an umbrella when it is raining and that is when I need both my trekking poles to stay safe on slippery trails I feel having those two poles are really more important and having a good rain jacket can keep u dry and protect from winds in cold weather and at higher altitudes. If it is windy and at higher reaches it usually is then carrying an umbrella is more of a downer

Brag on about your sweater! I can only do squares and rectangles! I won’t hike wo my trekking poles! They save me especially when I start to get tired and have kept me from tripping numerous times. Making it through an arduous hike and not getting injured is A+. One time I used my pole to retrieve someone’s empty water bottle left on a rocky ledge by jabbing it like one of those clean up sticks. They even helped w LNT!! How to use them correctly is an issue too. I was recently on a technical hike w lots of wet rocks and challenging trail. I saw a few people using their poles w the rubber tips on. One person was resting near me so I had a chance to show him how to remove the rubber tip and use the pokey tips in such conditions to grip the rocks. He had no idea.

Another great video! Thanks for sharing your new finds with us. I have the pee cloth and love it as well. In this video, you mentioned that you got some of the resealable bags at Sierra Trading Post. I was at my local STP recently and was lucky to find the Klymit Drift pillow, sized large on clearance for $15!! I did not hesitate in purchasing it! I live in Northwestern New Jersey and I'm going on my first car camping trip (since my college days) in a few weeks. I'm super excited and have been planning for this since the beginning of the year (purchasing gear, doing a ton of research and watching a lot of your videos!) I wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication to what you put on your videos. I've learned so much from your content and I've gained the confidence I needed just by watching and learning from you so thanks again! 😊

You need to get an umbrella clamp for your umbrella. Gossamer Gear or Garage Grown Gear sells them for under $10. They are special clamps that go on your backpack strap or daypack that will hold your umbrella in place for you so you can be hands free or use your trekking poles.

Calling them an idiot is a little harsh. I have the Six Moon umbrella and it's great most of the time. You know when it's not great? When the rain is coming at your sideways like it often does in the south. Then you'll be wishing you had some form of rain gear that covered your pants. Even an emergency poncho, which typically go down to the shins, provide some protection that an umbrella won't.
