Another bonus tip: accept the looseness of your waves 🥺 I'm pretty sure I have 2A waves and when I did everything right, I could get it to look 2B for a day before it loosened back to 2A. I went from trying to accept that my hair wasn't straight to now trying to accept that my hair is not curly or even very wavy. Good luck to anyone else who feels the same 🥲
@tracyvision3 жыл бұрын
Same! But over my last 19 months of learning how to deal with my natural texture I’ve learned to love my barely there 2A waves. So much so I rarely jump through the many hoops to get it wavier. These days I prefer just some leave in and air drying that I brush through once completely dry - that gives me very soft hair with a subtle bend, and that’s ok by me.

Honestly, I would also be ok with whatever curl type I end up with if it were at least somewhat consistent: After washing I have everything from completely straight to 3b. The second day I very much need a refresh (using the same lightweight products from my wash day style) and end up with straight and frizzy 2c - nothing in between except for curly front pieces... It never looks cohesive and more like I didn't bother with my hair at all and just came straight out of bed. Pair that with a washing and drying time of multiple hours even after a slight wet down for refresh and I am close to quitting after a year... Like I said: I can handle whatever curl type if it wouldn't look drastically different not only on one day on my head but differently over several days as well :/ I am getting so tired of investing so much effort and the reward is so inconsistent and sometimes downright awful 😩 Sorry for the rant 😅

However, once I started squeezing out more water instead of applying products soaking wet, my hair held waves better, AND I could get away with not diffusing (too much work in my book) since I didn't have so much moisture to dry out. At the beginning, moisture moisture moisture and then start slowly with protein. 3 years into ACTUALLY paying attention to my hair health (I've always worn it curly), nailing the balance is crucial for my wash day longevity. @Nubesyxochis5 ай бұрын
When they say 2b hair is relatively straight at the roots, they're not kidding! My 2a-2c hair is above the jawline right now and apart from the 2c-locks framing my face (where my hair is longest), my curl pattern is much straighter than normal (1c-2a). Happily, I did start the wavy-girl method before I cut it so I know it can curl but not at this length, apparently. So I'm just going to enjoy the light waves and lo-a-ds of volume this length entails. It's interesting seeing my short hair start to go wavier as it grows and the longer front pieces will often have a tighter s-pattern or ringlets.

Courtney, after 4 1/2 years of embracing my curls, I was ready to give up, as my curls seemed to disappear this winter. Then I saw your recent video where you used non-alcohol hair spray. Though I only had regular hair spray on hand, I tried it and WOW--bigger clumps, more spirals in my 2B-3A hair, and 3-4 days of great curls with just a spritz of water in the mornings and a quick scrunch. Most of my life, hair spray has been an absolute necessity to control my unruly hair. Although I've not used it in my curly hair journey, maybe I need to accept that it is a necessity in my life! It's allowed much less manipulation to my hair every day.
@rachellep25813 жыл бұрын
Yessss, you literally had me saying this outloud lol. I like you have recently brought hairspray back into my life and wow what a difference. This gave me the exact results I have been trying to achieve for the past year with no luck. I have volume that lasts, I do not have to pick out my hair or shake it half as much lol 🤭. The hairspray is also so great for day one grit and volume. For reference I have 3b curls, normal to low density though with the hairspray I have a main.

@@cherylgratton7940 Cheryl, I don't know how you feel about denatured alcohol, but my best results were with Aussie's non-aerosol spritz. The first time I used hairspray again, I use the Aussie spritz after I dried and styled my hair. I sleep with a satin cap and my curls only need the bit of water and quick scrunch I mentioned above. Before, my curls were pretty nonexistent when I removed my cap, but this method had my curls looking good even when my scalp was screaming at me for a shampoo on Day 5. I've had great results from the Aussie products I've tried, and this was my best result so far. Another day, I sprayed my WET hair with Tresemme hairspray after applying my styler and gel and before diffusing. These results were good, too, but the curl hold and frizz control were not quite as good. I don't know what the long-term use of hairspray might do, but I only use it once on wash day and it's kept me from chopping off my shoulder-length hair back into a pixie! Hope this helps!

I can't get my hair to last to day 2. Not because of the curls dropping, but I can't really protect my hair at night. I tried a silk turban and a silk scarf, but I get hot easily during the night and my scalp couldn't really breath, so it would be really oily the next day. Just doing a pineapple and using a silk pillow case doesn't really work since my hair is not long enough and gets frizzy, so that is not as oily, but very frizzy :/ I am trying to accept that I can only wear my hair open on day 1 but oh how I wish I could get to day 2 :)

I just have to be careful but to stretch out the lower layers of curls. When my hair is long enough, I’m sure I will pineapple under the “buff”.

Third reason... That's me 😭😭 complete neglect of my hair. Literally 10 years of hair dye/bleach/flat ironing without protecting it or adding any products to help my hair whatsoever. Before the neglect, I had SUPER long wavy hair, almost to my knees. Curly hair is a dominant trait on both sides of my family but I never paid attention to what I had because firstly, it was too long and then I focused too much on coloring and making my hair as straight as possible. I recently accidently found a pattern when I rinsed my hair with rice water for a month and noticed my hair begin to bend and wave out. This is my third week in giving my hair the love and care it desperately needs. Right now I have a loose 2b pattern, it's wavier than 2a but only on the top half of my hair 😅😅 the rest is definitely heat damaged

this is totally my hair right now! I'm 2 and half months into curly girl and I have a very loose wave that I just sort of discovered, plus I lost half of my hair after having a baby so I have less hair than normal and I have no clue what it's doing half the time. I think I watched 90% of your videos by now trying to figure out what to do lol I find that I can get my hair to look kinda cute while in the cast and then I scrunch it out and... it just loosens up so much! I don't really get it... while I do bleach my hair (also use olaplex regularly) I never straightened my hair and I haven't been heat styling it (yes, I used to curl my hair with curling iron ALL THE TIME, because CURL GOALS) for at least a year now (prior to even starting curly girl). I already used gentler shampoos... one thing that I don't get is how you can use a strong hold gel and not weigh down your curls? I'm trying to use smaller amounts because I have short hair but i can never get it evenly distributed and I have some pieces that are in cast and some that are just flying away (and I do try to use a lot of water!) this is such a learning process...

I've found I need to be careful with diffusing my hair at the roots. I end up with it stuck to my scalp. I either diffuse that part upside-down or move the diffuser upward a little bit to get it off my scalp. I do also try to keep product off my scalp, but that doesn't always work. I use a pick too to get the hair off my scalp and fluff it once my hair is dry.

Truly enjoyed this video. Very informative- thank you. Question: I have been following u & recently every when I do my hair for work & I get hot or it’s humid outside I lose my curls/ waves! It completely turns to FRIZZ! I go to work w/ great 2ab some c waves & leave looking like a frizzy hag! 😔 What an I doing wrong? Frizz even happened when I straightened it before going curly girl!

Did you ever make the diffusing video? I could use some tips...just started the method 10 days ago. My hair takes FOREVER to dry!! It’s fine but there’s a lot of it!

Hey Courtney. Have you ever done Maui line of hair care review?

I've been trying for months to get my curls back. I do everything according to the videos I've seen and I have half curls and half frizz. I'm about ready to give up.

I didn’t heat style my hair before starting to try and style my hair curly, I always air dried and wore it half up half down in a clip. Could a protein moisture balance be the issue?

I would love your day 2 for wash day! I think I have a weird halo from not getting clumps. I thought I was fine w just having crazy mermaid waves & looser waves.. (I am prob a 2c but have always had 2b from brushing my wet hair out) I tried clumping & just can’t get the hang of it... but gonna have to attempt again

Yes please diffuse video! 😀 I have a hard time letting my hair dry all the way before scrunch out the crunch. Do you have any good ideas? Can I send you a video or email about my routine and see if you can help me make it better? I am about 6 months into my CGM and I have got a hair trim in the last 3 weeks! Please help! 😀 I love your videos they have helped a lot!

I washed my hair and styled it this morning, and it is now almost straight and looks like frizz central 😩 I have experimented with different amounts of products and can't seem to strike that balance between weighed down, claggy hair and lasting hold.

Sounds like you don't have the right products for your hair yet.

One thing that might work for you is do a lighter shampoo and conditioner, do a high hold mousse and then a high hold gel. It helped my definition a lot

Hahahaha we are similar. I hate my hair in my face too. It can look amazing but it doesn't matter because I'm at least pulling the front prices back 🤣
