The negativity in this kinda made me sad. For a lot of people, moving abroad starts with a leap of travelling or doing a temporary work visa. That leap is hard enough for people to make without being thrown this kind of messaging. You travel and intend to move and it’s not for you? You can always come home. Fuelling doubts like this robs people of the chance to take a leap, learn and grow themselves. I’m currently saving to do a working holiday visa in a country where I don’t speak the language fluently, and that leap is only something I’ve been brave enough to do because of my last experiences travelling. It’s scary, but I know if I considered the decision on my death bed I’d regret not doing it far more than I’d regret doing it. But it took me a long time to get here. Part of what has delayed me getting here is doubts like the ones in this video. I get this is here to help people, but I fear this kind of messaging will just intercept people who were otherwise on their way to learn and grow themselves.

She's not negative. She's realistic. These ARE things to be considered, long and hard. She is NOT talking about anything temporary, like travelling or a work visa. She is talking about FOREVER.

@@gailburkett9702 I totally agree with you. She's realistic, and it's best to know things like the the pros and cons before relocating abroad.

The UK is probably the most depressing country in the world. The sun hardly ever comes out,even in the summer it is almost always cloudy and raining. If u want to come here with a plan to make good money within a few years and then move to a sunnier country then I'd say that's a good idea. Otherwise the weather here is unbelievably depressing and if you already have depression then my advice is to learn as much about healing your depression first. Make yourself a simple waking up and sleep routine,some simple exercises during the day consistently, don't take things personally, don't interpret anything anyone says into something negative as believe they meant something bad,or you got embarrassed, most people are generally good but never be naive. Just give people the benefit of doubt unless they directly say or do something very horrible to you,then calmly respond, don't react and tell yourself this is something you will learn from or next time keep away from such people. Completely and absolutely STOP all negative thinking patterns, and any bad habits or personality traits that causes you emotional distress then you have to be honest and change to better emotional habits. Don't waste time on games,KZbin, ticktock,p0rn or even useless fantasies. It will be hard but once you start making better healthier mental habits and a simple effective daily routine *you will feel much better.* also see a Dr and get medicated for depression. But if you think Britian would heal your depression you might be mistaken, I could be wrong, maybe you will like the damp dark wet weather here and the opportunities in Britain would keep you happy. *whatever issues problems you have,you will be surprised one day that you made your life better,you will look back and be proud of yourself and inspire others.* Anyway all the best.

Great video, honest and to the point! I'm moving there from Canada in April and I know theres going to be a ton of hurdles and hardships that I cant even anticipate coming. Ready to face it head on, be as flexible as possible but these kind of videos are invaluable to us. Being blunt about it is only for our benefit!

The government do give you some help, for example you can get statutory sick pay if you become ill although in that case the employer pays it but it's effectively the government and the employer as the employer can claim some of it back. Some immigrants may be able to claim contribution based benefits like New Style JSA if they lose their job and have enough national insurance contributions. This is absolutely justified as you are after all paying into the system through your taxes. But despite this, it obviously wouldn't be a nice situation to find yourself in. It's not a lot and wouldn't pay your rent for example but it's better than nothing.

Why would anyone want to move to the UK, as a British citizen born and raised I can think of far better places to go and live to get away from problems.
@Talkathon408 Жыл бұрын
And I can think of ALOT worse places lol. Biggest problem in the UK is inequality, get sucked into that and it can seem quite a crappy place to live, especially if you're living up north. The North should be a nice place to live, which it is in parts but it really suffers from this issue. Don't get me wrong, even the run down bits have a sense of community, more so than the South in a way but things could be so much better. The last 13 years really hasn't helped. Will take a long time to rectify the problems.

I moved to the UK when I was in my 40's and had none of these problems. I love the culture, the people, and the money was easy to get used to, the public transport is everywhere. It is so easy to get around, I have to disagree, however it may be a very young person thing to have all these red flags. I moved and lived in Singapore and didn't have these red flags

Moving from such a nice country like Canada to UK - sure, I can see you having those flags. But generalising that everyone will encounter them and kinda discouraging people from moving - L take. Imagine a woman in Poland moving to UK. You have a decency of choosing to keep babies or not, you can decide about your own body, you do not have to pay bribes to get into better positions, you do have a lot more freedom. Everyone I know that moved to UK from Poland/Latvia/Romania/Slovakia/Czech Republic or any other Slavic or Eastern Europe country is way happier than staying there. I think the video title should be more like "7 red flags that I found about moving to the UK".

Hiya Alanna, You're right in what you say, regarding moving to England (or UK) People shouldn't move here just for the sake of it, the music from 1980s is good and that's about it, Alanna could you answer me something, why have we never heard of any Canadian music bands, I've heard you talking about them, outside of Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Justin Timberlake, Shania Twain and Paul Anka, no rock bands, but I've heard there pretty good, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England

Good video. But for every person each aspect you mentioned is still unique. If you're, for example, moving from a homophobic country, where you're not protected by the law and discriminated by sexual orientation, it might be a right place to move to.
@Talkathon408 Жыл бұрын
I'm British but also half Portuguese. I'm obviously proud of my heritage, I'm not bi or gay myself but I've known of Portuguese people who would much rather live in the UK than Portugal because of their sexual orientation. You're protected from discrimination in Portugal but that doesn't mean it's a great place to live if you're gay.

@Talkathon408 Жыл бұрын
@@AliciaSykes Yes well, that's the point; a British term. We shouldn't be applying the same level of criticism to immigrants who come here as they may be using it totally innocently. We all know that sometimes British people use it because they don't like immigrants and don't want to be tarred with the same brush but that doesn't mean Canadians are doing the same.
