Crazy to think that plane is probably a tomb for someone! I hope their death was quick and painless, if they did go down with the plane, but I'm glad they found it! So interesting seeing how there seems to be alot of life living around that wreckage! Also that jelly looks crazy with that red spot in the middle!

Purely hypothetical, the way the wings and such are still intact, id place a bet it was in a nose dive down into the water, just cut straight through and rested at the bottom (it's too intact for it to have rested ontop and then sunk if you get me).

@@CrashHeadroom licensed private pilot here...actually given the fact that the wreckage seems to be arranged more or less in the same location suggests that the angle at which the aircraft hit the water was negligible...either flat (0°) or nearly flat, consistent with an attempted ditching procedure. By contrast if the plane had entered the water at a steep angle of attack and at high rate of speed, for example in a nose-down position, the sheer force of the impact would have resulted in a highly fragmented debris field, possibly stretching several hundred feet across the ocean floor.

The Marianas Islands were the site of quite a bit o the fighting during the latter two years of WWII, with the islands being bases for B-29 aircraft flying out of airfields to attack the Japanese islands and other locations. Quite a few places were lost on their way back from bombing raids, often running out of fuel on the return trip and/or receiving damage by the Japanese defenders. While some might have 'crashed' into the sea, many were 'ditched' being flown to land on the ocean surface, allowing crewmembers to escape the doomed aircraft, before sinking. In fact, large numbers of surface ships and submarines were stationed in the area to rescue aircrews, and flying boats were constantly patrolling the area of operation to rescue crews when no ship could be vectored in to rescue downed crews. It is still amazing that the plane is so well preserved considering what transpired. It would be interesting if the ROV had been able to recover something that might identify the plane, however impractical this effort might have been.

I'm in love with your channel, that atmosphere, the 'show, no tell' presentation. I can actually see the care oozing out of this channel's content. This channel core of this channel is the core virtue of the ocean it's unknown. This channel doesn't trample upon it's mysteriousness with annoying lack of wonder or lackluster fence sitting e.g. asking "what do you think about this in the comments?" This kind of thing diminishes the ocean's virtue to mere hearsay; gossip, rumor, 'truth in the eye of the beholder'. But this channel places & focuses on the unchanging *Absolute TRUTH* that is, The ocean begets many unknowns & what it reveals to be known, like daily bread, which further bends our understanding. This channel encourages wonder of the unknown. Re: the landing gear of the B-29 and the seemingly intact tires on the landing gear? I know the ROV operator had no desire to get to close to something that could easily snag the ROV and or the tether, but it is curious that pneumatic would appear intact at such tremendous depths? I know that it is probably the case that either the air was evacuated during he slow descent into the depths or that damage to the tires was not visible, but it is curious.
