If there hadn't been so much attention drawn to the challenge recently than people probably wouldn't be complaining so much as it wouldn't really be on there minds. (plus some fandoms have their extreme members...especially the big fandoms) I only recently found out that the KZbinr Bry (formerly Bribry) originally started Draw My Life. I have never heard people give him credit in their videos, and no one complains about that, and that craze was bigger than this 7 second Challenge. People are crazy.

it's not that anyone specifically wants you to check out phils channel. It's more about the fact that since he came up with the idea, he should be given credit. "Never claiming it was yours" isn't the problem, it's that she never said who's it was. And the fact that, even after being called out on it, she still hasn't even edited the description or even added in an annotation on EITHER of the videos despite how easy it is. No museum would put up a copy of Starry Night with no description below it/nothing that says it was by Vincent Van Gogh even though everyone knows who it was by. It's common courtesy and it happens with every other youtuber (eg, everyone gave credit to jenna for the photobooth challenge).
