Truth in your words. I have almost been swept away by those "emotions" of which you speak. I ride a 22 year old Harley and poped into a dealership a few months back. They had a RK special on the floor and my eyes glazed over. It was like a moth to flame. Fortunately had the wife with me and she snapped me out of it. Hopped back on my old heritage springer and had to brush the bugs out of my teeth once home. It still puts an uncontrollable smile on my face even after owning it for 20 years (the bike not the wife 😂). I have had her for almost 40 years so I think I will keep her too.

11:50 Totally relatable, I recently visited the local dealership where I saw a very low k's RK special. It's mere presence began to fog all rational thought but I managed to snap out of it enough to leave with the bank balance relatively intact. Yesterday I was gone most of the day on the old Dyna and came home with a grin, proving you don't need anything fancy to have a good time on a motorcycle.

😎👍 Great video... Big thumbs up for my Brothers down under... I am the poster child for why someone should buy the Extended Warranty... I purchased a 3 year Extended Warranty a year ago for $2,500 USD, tires and wheels not included... I now have receipts for over $10,000 USD that the Extended Warranty covered... I paid cash for my 2015 Ultra Classic Low 2 years ago because I didn't want any monthly payments.. Recently I checked on a couple websites and I could sell my Ultra for about what I paid for it, if not a little more...

Buying dealer demo’s is sound advice and I have done it a number of times when I find the model I want. Also changing oil between services on car and bike is for me standard practice. It’s important, particularly when your bike has been standing over winter. Getting fresh oil in there really benefits the engine. When I buy an expensive motorcycle like a Street Glide Special, I always take out the extended warranty. It makes selling the bike privately so much easier after three or four years.

I really don't know who goes to the dealer and spends the price of a CVO on new Street Glide Special (with upgrades and Finance)! You can always find a really good used bike, as you said, with some Km on the clock. That's great Video Ayman! Straight to the point of reality as for many people the brand New Bike is out of range. The Bandit 1250 is a very good utility MC. Now with the upgrades it's an incredible mc! We did 321 miles on a day ride, combination of freeway and canyon roads. No hot spots, no aches.

Let's talk Oils!! or servicing?!? When I picked up my 02 RoadKing it had one of those "Performance" "reusable" Oil filters fitted to it, When I decided to change the oil I took one look at the stupid thing and asked myself "how are you supposed to clean this piece of Junk??" It was full of metal shavings from what I could see, so I fitted a standard paper filter in its place. At the time i also serviced the bike every 5k and over the course of about three oil changes I noticed the amount of metal that came out on the sump plug magnet dramatically reduced to nothing!! I've since changed to 8k servicing since I picked up the SuperGlide and the RoadKing is still trucking with 152k on the clock, standard filters each change and HD's proffered Oils. I'm happy!!

As a mechanic I worked in dealerships for most of my career so when buying a car or bike I know how the dealer operates and how the manufacturer operates. When buying a Harley you need to know that while they are an iconic brand, they have their faults. Example, the oil pumps on the twin cams had an oil pressure relief valve issue (that's why I change my oil every 5000 km on my road king) and the early M8 had oil slumping issues. I will bet you that they will have issues on the new CVO VVT as well. Technology is good when it works but it usually take Harley 3-4 years to get it right.

In my experience when purchasing a new bike, I prefer to order one. That way there are no accessories that I don't want added by the dealer, I get the color that I want, and I'm not paying above MSRP. I order at the end of the riding season and have a shiny new toy awaiting in the spring. Added bonus is not having to store my trade in for the winter. Keep up the good work with the videos. I bought a loaded used 2002 Fatboy last summer. It had 15,000 miles on it. It cost $4500. He had more than $5,000 in accessories in the bike. I paid cash. No way I’m buying a new bike. You buy a new bike then you still have the costs of accessories plus upgrades. I’m just not going to waste money with that route. I just went for a little 350 mile ride to eastern Oklahoma in 102 degree heat. No issues, the bike ran great. I stayed hydrated. When I got home I drank a Gatorade plus two cold beers. I ate nothing all day, just to hot. I loved the ride from the DFW area. Man you are spot on with the complexity of new technologies. Harley Goldwings have evolved minus the plastic. To much technology for me coming from a guy who owned 4 Goldwings. I got tired of the plastic and weight. I loved this video. Love the channel brother. Stay safe.

If you don't have the modern electronics and brake/driver's aids you will absolutely notice a difference with a new bike. I finally broke down and bought an almost new bike with cornering ABS, linked brakes, various ride modes and built in navigation. It was well worth the upgrade.

I’d rather have something I can rebuild myself. My old FatBob brakes perfectly fine. Gotta phone clip and an App for navigation and it plays tunes to my helmet. Nothing else needed. Electronics fail… Have fun with it though, if it’s what you want and you got the cash.

@@lipinskirl Yeah, this is the first fully loaded with electronics bike I have had (a slightly used Pan America), time will tell how reliable it is, but being able to brake heavily in corners is really an impressive thing, about half of motorcycle fatalities are "drove to fast in to a corner" in origin, so it will be interesting if features like that lower deaths over time. I think when they studied motorcycle ABS in Europe it lowered accidents about 20%.

G'day Aymen, great advice that will hopefully keep some people out of a) financial trouble, or b) marital woes! The latter always seems to apply to me whenever I let the wife know that I'm thinking of buying another bike! After 20 years and countless bikes you would think she wouldn't even bat an eye lid if I mentioned the word bike. LOL. Just received my T/shirt and cap today (supporter gear), and I'm bloody impressed with the quality and comfort of the Tee. The hats pretty bloody good as well! Will certainly have to watch a few of your earlier video's as I am in the market for my first Harley in nearly 50 years of owning motorcyles. Promised myself one if and when I reach 65. So far so good! Have a fair idea of what I want out of the bike, so its only a matter of finding the right one at the right price. Thanks for the video brother, really appreciate the content and humour. Cheers mate.

Great content! I totally agree with all that has been said here, but oooh, God knows how hard it is not going emotional with the new bike 😉. For the rates of insurance and why they are lower at the dealers it is most likely because of the bulk contract sales, the dealer sign the contract that he will sell not less than the certain number of insurance policies (based on the annual sales average) and get the special rate, and the insurer on the other side, has got the certain sales level secured which is good for business on both sides. For the advise I would only add - from my experience: 1 check the history of the used bike via one of the website services using motorcycle VIN number, 2 write yourself 6 priorities for your next bike made of 3 things you love your last bike for and 3 things you hate your last bike for - do not cheat yourself with your needs.

Emotionallll Dammmage……half of this report wasn’t even related to HD but life or purchases in general. Sold both my last two Honda’s to local dealers. Yeah they made money on me. But I had a price that was ok and they needed work. Win win so all good. Newest one was 2000 k away sight unseen but sold by a BMW dealer. Delivery as sold and expected $12k less than new absolutely no complaints. Even with 13.kilometers on the clock As you are still a pup I would note your advice is well versed. Dealer notes that he preferred finance as he makes more profit. I am perhaps a bit lucky as mine was cash. See previous comments for the reason why (wife). Money pits. Think BOAT - Bring Out Another Thousand. BIKE - Bring In Ka$hE. New gloves new helmet new jeans. New jacket (thanks for the promotion code) As a side - you did the m$b life line ride last year and about a thousand riders showed up for that event . I was intending to come down but 100mm of rain in central Queensland put that idea to bed. The idea of coming down is still on my mind. Your channel is growing (👍) and I think you could stage a pre ride event to piggyback on that event Round Up some strays before the event….? You could make that happen..?

I'm on my third Harley. It's a '15 with 37000 miles. I know, that's not very many, but, when I got it, I still had my '08, which I had highly modified in every way. I found myself preferentially riding that '08 instead of the "new" 2015. This went on for six years until, two years ago, I gave the '08 to my son. It now has 125000 miles on it. I did, over the years modify the '15 until I got it to where I like it. But now it's 8 years old. And yeah, it occurs to me to "upgrade". But, for what new bikes cost now, and knowing very well what if cost additionally to get a stock bike to how I like it, it's hard to consider a brand new bike an "upgrade". And I'm not getting any younger LOL. Alas, I suspect the '15 will be my last new bike and last bike ever.

For insurance, I am in the military and they have "go to" insurers USAA, and progressive, and they just do what they want. LoL. I have recently bought another bike and I bought this bike just like I did when I bought my first bike. When I bought it, I did not know of the MC world and all the opinions. I just went and got what I wanted. I sold my last bike in 2016, which was a soft tail delux. Last month, I bought a 2020 Iron 1200 and I LOVE the thing. Its comfortable as heck. Even more than the delux was. AND I have to get progressive insurance. LoL. :) I love your videos, it helped me get back in to riding again. Since then, I have ridden to and climbed Mt Rainier. LoL.

The engine on my 21 limited blew a few weeks ago. Rather than wait 5 plus months for the warranty I traded and got a 23 limited with the stage 1 and the other upgrades I previously had on the old bike

@@OldNotDead-Club I had it in a stereo technician’s shop in May and he advised me that I had a primary leak. I cleaned the underside well and rode it for awhile, but I couldn’t find a leak. One morning my wife and I got up to take a small road trip. 5 miles after we left a check engine light came on so I immediately pulled over to check everything out. I found water in the oil. We immediately went to the dealership to have everything checked out. After they looked it over they said they found an internal primary seal that needed replaced. They ordered the parts and took 6 weeks to make the warranty repairs. We picked it up and I rode home approximately 8-10 kilometers. The following weekend we returned to the dealership for a charity poker run. When we were mounting for ksu I noticed a softball sized puddle of fluid. Knowing it was a warranty issue they actually loaned me a cvo to complete the run while they repaired it again. After we returned, they went to retrieve my bike. When they started it up it began leaking so massively that they couldn’t tell which fluid it was leaking. They determined that it was going to need a new block and estimated 5 months to replace it. I mildly complained that I was paying for a bike that I had purchased from them but was essentially bikeless for the entire riding season. My take was that the internal malfunctioning components caused the fluids to not circulate properly and caused the aluminum block to overheat and warp or fracture. I believe that Harley believes that they made a grave mechanical error and it was much of a warranty and customer service error. I also know that they know that the old bike and it’s expensive upgrades will give them a greater profit margin than any new factory sale. So I negotiated with them to install the Harley factory upgrades at cost to make it equal to the old one and to transfer the new stereo to the new bike. They reduced the price of the new one and gave me a very low interest rate so that I was able to get the newer version of the same bike for the same monthly cost to me. I’m sorry this was so long but I thought it was interesting and pertinent to this video. Have a great day and keep the rubber side down. ✌️

That's some good info come at a good time for me as i have been researching for another used bike, looking at what years to avoid and why due to electrical, fuel pump, clutch, brakes etc. issues. I have two models in mind and what years and price range is around the same. One model 2017 has the top fairing and digital screen, music, speakers' blah blah and wet weather saddlebags. The other is a 2007 which i really want only due to classic look more my style. Saddle bags are not weatherproof. I can go without the high tec stuff, which i do not generally use today on the bikes. It's the saddlebags that is holding me back. Km on both models average from 200 to 26000 and engine sizes are different ranging from 1847 down to 1600 both have 6 spd transmission. I prefer private sales over dealership sales, like you said many bikes come already upgraded. How important is the warranty from the dealership that you do not get from the private seller. And is it true that many dealerships do not like servicing or repairing bikes after 20 years old.

Awesome video! I fully identify with the old school tech and less gadgets giving less trouble. I’ll drop a question here if I may. It’s kinda potential number 8…. I’ve always changed wheel bearings when they start making noise or when I notice something after checking them during a tire change. I am Colombian and live in Europe and not long ago I heard that most bikers here change them every 2nd ser of tires. How is it in NZ? Or wherever the rest of you guys are from. Are this guys paranoid or am I being too “tropical” about it?

Just like the oil, changing bearings more often is better than not. Bearings are cheap and easy to do yourself. If you have the time and the knowhow. I’m getting 20,000 miles out of a set of Commander II’s and changed my bearings on both sets of tires. The wheels were off so why not.

Another approach. Sell your existing bike before you buy your next one. Sometimes dealers won’t want your bike because it’s the wrong type so they offer you next to nothing for it. There is a good chance a dealer will drop the price particularly on a 2nd hand bike if you don’t have a trade in. Also with a 2nd hand bike dealers will advertise it as a ride away price then tell you your up for government charges for transfer of registration. Some dealers will tell you in NSW they can’t legally transfer the registration into your name this is BS I have bought bikes from dealers who have transferred the title into my name with any cost covered in the purchase price. The old saying buyer beware.

It has a warranty on it so if it takes a dump. I can take it in and say fix it because the student expensive to have a motorcycle. You know let's use any government rebuilder or whatever no no thank you you spend more money rebuild in it than it's worth. Have a nice day.
