Canadian here. I just picked up a 2006 Road Glide, original Black Cherry paint, full load with Tour Pack, Sundowner sofa, Daymaker headlights, full Reinhart exhaust, 166,000 kilometers. But it has a fresh S&S T111 mill sitting at 125HP. I polished out the paint & it really gave it new life. I got it from a close friend that bought a new RG last year!

Awesome video. I couldn't agree more with you on buying second hand. I shake my head at all the fools that think by adding cams , suspension and exhaust think they can sell the bike for more. At the end of the day the bike is just a bike. If you ploughed your lifes saving into it , then want to sell it thats your loss. Buyers need to look pass the extras and see it for what it is and not whats on it.

That’s really sad that someone would think they will get that money back. I know a Harley sales manager and the upgrades get listed in the ad for the bike when they sell it, but not in the trade in deal, the dealer cares about condition and mileage, and how much you still might owe on it.

I always look at anything I add on (or that was added on before I bought it, IF it is something I would have added myself) as just my own preference. Just bought a 2023 Low Rider s from Richardson’s HD in Launceston. They were awesome, went out of their way to get me a great deal, 23 model being identical to the 24 model. Also gave me a grand off the price of the extended warranty and offered to keep it in storage until I can legally ride it later in the year. They didn’t try to force anything extra onto me at all. Compared to some of the negative feedback I’ve seen regarding US dealerships in particular. I walked out with a smile on my face knowing I’d got a far better deal than I had expected.

Great vid. as always! I always hate where negotiation becomes adversarial, to me negations should always be a conversation. Whenever I negotiate, I alway start with "are you negotiable on that?" If they say "yes", the conversation can start. If they say "no" you choose, accept or walk away. The "are you negotiable on that" question sets down the ground rules and gives you the permission to start the conversation in a friendly and conversational manner. IMHO.

My first Harley, which I bought in December 2023, was a 1994 Electra Glide. I paid cash for it. The bike runs well and does not leak. It was well maintained from the previous owner. However, the dealer wouldn’t budge on any of the numbers. I did ask. However, they had to rebuild the carb and put on new tires. That ate up and then some the dealer prep charge. The sales manager admitted that he lost money on the prep charge. I am happy with the purchase. I bought a bike within my means.

I went in to buy either a Fat Bob or the 1250s Sportster. I got talked into buying the Sportster as I was told it was going up £2,000 the next weekend so I had the Sportster. Next weekend the dealer had a Birthday Sale. The 1250 stayed at the same price and the Bob came down to the same price as the Sportster,£14,000. Sportster has been nothing but trouble. Last time they had it back my bike was delived back to me covered in mud, dirt, leaves and what looked like overspary. It had been left outside in their yard. It also had a huge scratch on the tank. Called them. No apologies. No offer to sort the scratch out.The bike has only done 550miles. I want new cans fitting. £1,300 for the cans. A basic charge of £450 labour. £900 to code the exhasut to the VIN number. I just feel Harley dealers are ready to rip you off at every opportunity.

I'm a retired sales manager and executive. Customers technically bring a knife to a gunfight. A good dealership constantly trains their sales force. So, the customer needs to do research about the models they want and fix a price. Be ready to walk away, if you don't get the price. Dealerships will do almost anything to prevent customers from walking away without a deal.

Former HD Sales in Colorado, here’s what I recommend: - Enter the door with a plan. If no plan, at least a good idea. - Shop around! But remember to consider the difference in how the prices fluctuate and how it’ll effect you in the long run. - DO NOT go anywhere near a dealership if you don’t have at least 10% to put down, or an equitable trade of equal or greater value. - No matter what they say, you really DONT need all the extra warranty protections - HD has a huge aftermarket for performance and mods. No bike ever stays stock, so expect to make personal mods down the road (this costs money) - Other brands are good too, but none of them are Harley Davidson Ride safe out there, Gents!

Here in most of the USA, HD dealerships are criminal with tacked on additional "fees". A 2020 Sport Glide used in 2022 , dealerships were asking for more, than new. I picked up a 15k miled 2018 for less than half the price private party, that dealerships wanted. In November of 2023, I test rode a BMW R1250 GS Trophy, brand new, 6 miles on it. Dealership took $2500 off MSRP, no additional fees. Pretty much done with HD dealerships. Service depts at all dealerships are a ripoff. Billing for service in 1/2 hour increments to customers, but warranty work pays in 1/10th hour increments. Service writers always rounding up the bill.

However I am waiting, and will sell my bike first closer to the end of the season and will buy the new (pre owned) around next February. Well, haggling is not always welcome - this depends very much on the cultural context You’re in. Consider Europe alone: there are some nations/cultures more akin to haggling and some see it as borderline unpleasant. BUT! What always seemed to work for me (and also lowers the bar of leaving one’s comfort zone) is this approach: „well, I am willing to pay what You ask - but it’s about as much as I was ready to pay at most. I would like You to include x, y, z in that amount”. This way I rode out of the dealership on a Forty Eight, paying the dealers price, but getting all the riding gear and one year full insurance on top.

Cars including motorcycles are depreciating assets. Unless if it is your primary method of transportation then don’t finance them. If you can’t afford to pay it cash then save up or settle for a less expensive ride. Many times by the time you can afford to pay cash for it a better deal comes along anyways. NOW In buying houses you do the opposite-finance and put down as little as possible and buy as many as you can for as little money as possible.

What you do. You do your research. The real bike that you want you don’t ask to test drive. Go in there and look at a bike that you know you can’t afford. Have them on the numbers. Have them tell you the bad news. tell them if you can get me into thisfor a cheap price i’ll buy it today. They’ll give you a deal. And that was the bike you really wanted.

if everyone held to your rule #1, Harley Davidson would be out of business. when you engage in rule #2, the Harley salesperson will look at you as if you just let out a huge fart. Here, rule #3 sets you up to accept the results of rule #2. Here in California, USA, rule #4 does not apply. I haven't seen a dealership discount their new bikes probably for the past 10 years. Rule #5, I'm guilty of this rule, $$$$ of mods for my '15 FSTC and if I ever sell my bike, all that money on mods, down the toilet. Rule #7 Absolutely TRUE!!!!

Not trying to be cute or anything, but why does he refer to number of kilometers and a few seconds later say mileage. Is there not a metric equivalent for that word?

I really think your just out of your depth here on this topic. People are going to do what they do, and making bad financial decisions are common. To me its one thing and to you it may be another. And lastly dont tell me i shouldnt be foolish with my money. Its a personal decision.

Hey man, i really enjoy your vids. Youre spot on with everything you say. I wanted to buy a New 2024 Road king Special this year but when i saw that they were being built in thailand, that was a total deal breaker for me. Sorry , (not sorry) hd . I ain't paying you premium usa money for a hd knock off made in thailand. I'll keep my loyal and trusty Awesome made in Usa 2015 Dyna Street Bob 103TC... I'll never buy a new hd again if this is your new maket strategy lol People should wake da fuk up. If your gonna build in Thai you should at least consider lowering the price 30% minimum. Hd means MADE IN 🇺🇸 These thai bikes are worthless
