Welcome to a random mid-week Extra Content video! Ever had an itch to build something cool with just a few simple parts? I did, and the result is this awesome mechanical seven-segment display counter inspired by Engineezy's amazing 3D printed mechanical design.
Using hinges, timers, and a bit of clever "set velocity" functionality, I created a working counter that can display numbers from 0 to 999. It's perfect for a clock, a scoreboard, or any other application that needs a digital display.

you should use it to make a clock in Kratos Station. EDIT: even better use a sensor down the line to start a count down of when the mono rail will arrive or depart

Time to have these everywhere! airlock usage, sensors down a hall that senses when somebody passes by, sensors for the vehicles when they dock, how many times the drones leave to pick up things, all kinds of stuff can be used for this! 😃👍

I just did a test and found out something so cool. In a timer block, you can perform multiple actions of the same kind on the same block if you set up multiple groups for that particular block (or group). All these years I never knew that! I used to use one repeater block to increase settings and a master to stop the process. I have reduced the need for SOOOO many blocks on the hill climber I am building. Sorry - couldnt think who else to share this with so came here :)

Active inventory! Times an enemy has been detected, how many times you’ve welded something… would make a nice back wall to an elevator as well. Number of trips your drone made while you were offline. damn, this is nice my man!

Wow. A counter is huge. It set up unlimited sequence that you have tracked on. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 . . Step 999 Or limit a production. Redo until step 10. If you only want 10 drones being built Something tells me that you in this way, can have it count occupied slots, so a drone or crane can find a free slot to port. 🤔 Anyway, a counter should make it much easier to keep track of sequence, which should make it way easier to make longer and more complicated stuff without actual codes. 👍

You could put black panels 90 off the white to really make it contrast

I tried to put ones that covered the hinges but they conflicted with each other on the small version. Kind of works on the large one.

Nice idea and great video. I had a thought, instead of hinges flipping panels, you could turn on and off blueprint projections that would be more clearly visible from different angles, otherwise same principle.

Pretty neat and fairly simple even. First thing I thought of was the 7-segment Etho did a few months back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHrRmIGVoqaLqrM Makes you appreciate the higher level abstractions we have access to in SE!

@@EngineeredCoffee I've finally had the time to make this script and got it working, it should be able to have as many digits as you like and even one for a minus symbol. It should be on the workshop as "Seven segment display" if you want to try it out.

Could you make it even more clear by putting some extra armor panels in Black 90 degrees offset from the white panels to hide them further?

Yes and no. You could use the neon light corners to attach it so it hangs over and hides the hinges on the large version, but the small version, each one would conflict with it's neighbor.
