Social anxiety disorder usually comes on at around 13 years of age. It can be linked to a history of abuse, bullying, or teasing. Shy kids are also more likely to become socially anxious adults, as are children with overbearing or controlling parents.👍

I just feel like i'm living hell especially at school so ofc i avoid evry social interaction. I hope in the future there is going to be more hope for us 😶🫤 i also hope there is going to be more aknowlege about it so they can give us better solutions to kinda ger rid of it or cope better idk . ❤️‍🩹

I think the single thing that helped me the most was getting out of a toxic environment and finding great friends who appreciate me for me. If you’re in a situation like the one I was in, just know that it will get better and you will find people who will love and appreciate you. And just remember, you always deserve respect and kindness.

i wasnt bullied but have social anxiety since i was 5 most probably cuz of an accident in which i cut my tongue by my teeth and couldnt talk to people for much time. even my parents were in shock at that time cuz i was a very super duper energetic child before that. now am 15 and have better control on my anxiety. i am still a super introvert person but am able to accept this fact infront of everyone. :)

I'm a 33 year old man. I've had horrible bouts with social anxiety for a few periods of my life. It started around age 20 in college.....It would get so bad at times, it'd be extremely difficult for me to even do simple things like go to the grocery store....The thing that has helped me the most, by far, is exercise. Specifically running outdoors. When I run in the fresh air/sunshine on a routine basis, my social anxiety pretty much goes away completely.....I know it's tough, and maybe it's embarrassing for some people, but I promise running outdoors is like a magic pill for social anxiety. It saved my life, without a doubt

This is absolutely relatable. I'm the only introvert (and socially anxious) in our family and my mom never tells me anything if they plan on going outside, they just drag me with them knowing I hate it. I always cry and most of the times I have difficulty breathing every time I'm in a crowd. I think I can handle it, I just need like a very long time to prepare myself that's why I really hate it if someone tells me (especially my family), "you're a killjoy" or "don't be like that, all you do is stay inside the house" I told them about this but I'm always misunderstood, it's distressing.

It’s so much harder to deal with when you are a kid or teenager. You can’t get diagnosed professionally because your parents thing you are overreacting or as mine put, “just need to pray to god more”.
@pawtaytoe6247
@pawtaytoe6247 2 жыл бұрын
@@inspxre_amiyah that is what I really hate about them. They always connect it with God. Every miserable thing that happens to us they blame us telling we should pray more and heck, I don't have the money to see a professional. That's why instead of seeking a professional, we just find something that'll help us forget about it temporarily.

@@sophiescribbles8504 I think that if we are sad we should keep everything inside and not tell anything. Me for example don't say a single word to my parents about what I feel beacause I fear their reactions. I have this fear from one time when things didn't went well. My sister had to go to the hospital to get some treatment. My grandparents came there for emotional support. We got it over way sooner than expected. And left the hospital. But I wanted to go to stay at my grandparents house. My parents did not. So they let my brother instead. Fast forward a week. I go to my grandparents house but my brother was a buzz kill and came with me. Then I did the mistake to talk in front of him. He was only 5 at this time so he broke down in tears. My dad came to take him home (served him right) my dad said to me :we will talk tomorrow. So I said to myself :never talk again in front of family members. And I feel fine doing it

I had being diagnosed by a Psychiatrist with GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), and everything is on this video is right. Having this level of anxiety is so frustrating and horrible, but at least you can treat it. I take a pill every mornin, and I probably will have to live with it the rest of my life. The pill actually helps me to stay calm and focus, but I just can't stop living with fear, and I'm always thinking in the future and all the things than can or not come. If you know a person with this condition, try and talk with them, make them talk with a psychologist, it is very important to have them with constant help... trust me, I know... my aunt can't left the house alone, she can't go to a shop by her own, she also needs help but she's extremely anxious to go and talk with a psychologist... my family is still trying to help her. We are not crazy, this is a real condition and can be devastating for the family if isn't treat it like it has to. my social anxiety is so severely that i rarely leave the house. going to the movies is a BIG obstacle for me. i recently went to the cinemas this past Sunday with my siblings and we had to walk through the shopping center and it was packed with people. my heart was racing, my armpits were sweaty. i can feel the pressure building up that i wanted to just run to hide somewhere. upon entering the building even more anxiety was building up. i could see groups of people and them laughing which triggered my past when i was being made fun of in high school. and then they went to the bar to get alcohol while i sat and waited for them watching over the food. groups of people came out of the screening rooms and i began to stare at the wall trying to avoid eye contact but also not make myself look like a weirdo. i just wanted to get in that dark room and begin watching the movie. once we got in it was already packed and our seats were in the front so it felt like i was giving a presentation to everyone. i just kept looking down for my seat and then i sat down and we watched the movie and then leaving was the same. i just wanted to get in that car and go home. it sucks so much.

Having social anxiety is especially tough for me at work. I feel like I can’t move up because I’m so hindered by my anxiety in talking with others. Me too and I lost my job. People didn't know I have SAD because I can chat with others like normal person. After they found me hiding at home when my SAD happened, they just thought I am lazy and shy. My only way to reduce the anxiety is taking medicine. I think people can't understand SAD triggered in non normal way, not just because of scaring to communicate with people. Hope you can deal with it, it likes a long journey but time can heal it better.

When I was younger, maybe twelve or thirteen, we were fling a musical showcase for school, and I was going to sing a song with a few other kids. I was nervous, as I’d always been shy anyways, but I was determined to push through. My part in the song came, I opened my mouth, and nothing. I just stood there frozen, my mind completely blank as the entire school watched. And then there was laughter. It seemed to last forever until I remembered that I had legs and ran off stage. That’s where my social anxiety began. I can’t even talk to those people anymore, since I’m sure they will still hate me (they probably don’t, but my anxiety won let me get near them). And I promised myself that I would never put myself in a situation where I have to DO anything again with anyone, feeling so guilty for ruining everything and am constantly berating myself for it, and every bad thing I’ve done since.

I genuinely have to think about the way I’m breathing at school, in case I’m breathing wrong, and even blinking sometimes. I feel like people will judge and scrutinise me for every single thing I do, even though most people won’t. My mouth also feels so dry and I swallow excessively when Im anxious. It’s like the moment I go outside, everyone is watching me and judging my every move. I can barely in public, because I’m too self conscious and people will judge the way I’m eating. I hate my life so much, but I know a lot of people have it much worse.

I can't say I've been diagnosed with social anxiety (never bothered getting analyzed for any potential mental health disorders), but I've definitely shown symptoms. What helped me most (I still struggle sometimes) is hard wiring into my mind to not take anyone's criticisms to heart, and letting myself feel worthy of the spotlight when I feel like everyone's looking at me. I don't really take myself too seriously, so most of what I do in public is for laughs anyway. That's what works for me, but I know it won't help everyone. Best of luck, and thanks for the video, Psych2Go! :)

I am so thankful for all your videos because I always learn something from them. I was extremely shy throughout my childhood and stuttered. As an adult I literally stuttered uncontrollably in public situations like at job-related meetings, therefore, I avoided providing any input. As a result I missed promotions though I was a wiz at number calculations and in computer work. Now I am retired and don’t have a single friend. I fear that due to the pandemic if it stays as an endemic, there will be many more people suffering from social anxiety. My trouble stemmed from not being allowed to voice my opinions about anything at home by my parents nor by any of my elder siblings. They made me feel devalued and invisible. I was the last born, born much later.

It’s...strange to me that i have almost all these symptoms, but the one thing i can say i don’t think I’ve ever had is a panic attack. I think panic attacks usually have hyperventilating and like just overall really bad reactions from your body. I mean...idk if you could call this a panic attack, but i remember i was doing a practice singing on the mini stage in my class, i was partnered up with a friend and we had to sing a song in front of the class. Back in elementary school, I’d always get nervous but never anxious. In middle school, on that day, when i sang, i got really bad heart palpitations, i started trembling, my palms started getting sweaty, my body got extremely hot, which caused me to itch almost everywhere and my eyes welled up with tears. I don’t remember what happened, but i think i forced myself to keep singing, which made my voice shaky, which made me even more anxious because i felt like I’d get made fun of for it.

I'm the kind of person who just follows around one friend, because I get really anxious if I'm by myself even though I LIKE to be by myself. I feel like everyone is always judging me for everything. I remember in 5th grade once my friend was on a vacation for the week & I had no one to stay with, so I just hid in the bathroom at lunch. I also like to draw, so whenever someone would try to look at my drawing I would get so anxious, like idk I just am a really nervous person.

I find it interesting that social anxiety can be mistaken for many different things: shyness, introversion, and such. My mom mistook my social anxiety for "mild" autism. Because of this incorrect identification, she would put me in social situations so I could practice social skills. She had no idea that she was unintentionally setting me up for failure

Anyway in the end i got like a seven (my partner got a 10) and i literally felt like i was gonna cry i got into the girls bathroom, locked myself in there and started crying silently so tbh i think i deal with social anxiety

I've had family members say I'm shy, every time I feel like saying and do say "It's anxiety!!". I watched this to see if this is the case, I'm still unsure though I do remember struggling with new settings for fear of embarrassment, humiliation, etc. the first day of school after homeschooling is an example of this, I still had anxiety going to school though the first day was the worst. Any social event I went to, I always have anxiety. I refuse to say I'm shy because I really don't think I am. I am an introvert and a little bit of an extrovert, I prefer to keep to myself. I've noticed that talking to people I trust about what I've said and done has helped me improve socially, and not panic so much about the other person. Also discovering who I am and embracing that has really helped as well. I hope this all made sense, there was some emotion put into this because I really don't like being identified as shy when I'm not.

I both relate to, and am jealous of people that are “just shy”. I really wish I was just kind of shy and bashful around people, in a mild and charming way, and not my usual extremely nervous, too-quiet, too-rigid self. I think people can tell that I’m not like them, that I’m not as socially developed as they are, and so they just ignore me. If I was shy, they would just think “oh she’s just shy! I should keep talking to her to break the ice.”

No matter what happens after a presentation i still try my best to do it and be prepared, if there is a social event i prepare my self for it, and if i meet new people even with the possibility of getting excluded i try not to blame myself. I still do all those things that triggers my social anxiety just for the plain reason of having no regrets and not missing out in life:) Tho Im still working on my overthinking tendencies...just know you're not the only one in this road!♡♡

in my class i cant talk to anyone and i dont like doing much in front of them ig. like once everyone was eating and i wasnt and some kid asked ‘why arent you eating?’ dang i didnt excpect anyone to communicate to me so i just didnt know what to say. i just stared at them for 5 seconds anxiously and regretted it later. i feel like i can talk when i rehearse something for so long but still then i always have a faster heart rate when i communicate/ socialise. it’s also really hard as an extrovert since i really want to talk with others and say things but i just cant. i remember yesterday at school there was someone that was so good at drawing and i waisted to say ‘ur so good at drawing’ or something but i couldn’t. i wrote it on a slip of paper but still then i couldn’t hand it to them. in real life, i do fear that ppl judge me, how ugly i look, and my terrible voice and my fashion choices and identity, but i guess when i’m online i usually never have that stuff. like online i can be as confident as i like unless i say weird stuff ofc. but i can say ‘hi’ online but in real life it’s almost impossible to say a single greeting, and when i do say it they can’t hear it.
