I was at this year's IPhO and when I talked with the gold medalists they basically said that all they do everyday is solve problems...for years... I only prepared for less than a year and earned a bronze medal for the Bulgarian team, so I guess if I started earlier I would have had better odds of earning something higher. Also a very important step in preparation is competing in regional olympiads and competitions, since sometimes the problems are similar in difficulty to the international olympiads.

Поздравления! Браво на теб : ) (I'm also from Bulgaria and had one visit to the famous Teo school roughly 15 years ago!) Thanks for the comment and the insight. I agree, the regional competitions at a national level often have problems at very similar difficulty.

I am three weeks away from the Nationals here in 🇲🇽. I had not quite acquired advice like this. I really wish to get a medal, but regardless of the result, I have learnt so much more of physics on this barely 7 month long journey, showing an example of dedication to my school. I will also do some free traveling to places I didn't know and possibly I will meet new great people and friends. The point is, the experience and the work is the greatest reward in competitions. And it's thanks to channels like yours that I have prepared while watching KZbin. Thank you ZPhysics.

I'm an Indian 12th grade student who will give JEE exam next year. I never knew about these Olympiads and stuff because here, we had private companies that conduct their own tests that they named Olympiads which is just a method for them to sell their books and make business. I got to know about the real Olympiads only in 9th grade when we had online classes. I had no real means of accessing the system though as no one had educated about that to me enough. Finally in 11th grade when school became physical, I could give the regional Olympiad for Astronomy in 2022 but performed poorly (48/240) and couldn't clear the cutoff of 72. This year I'm enrolled in a coaching for IIT JEE exam that will also help me in the Astronomy Olympiad and I hope I will reach the National level then to the training camps for the international round. I'm so excited and so ambitious to study Astrophysics in a University. Your videos have helped me a lot, thank you so much❤ 0:59 that stuff is in our JEE syllabus and to an extent is covered satisfactorily in high schools here so I'm happy

Amazing! Good luck! Unfortunately there is no clear pattern although little details that I have discovered I have put in this video. I'd say a lot is about developing a library of problem types you have solved and being able to persevere when you can't see the solution instantly. Good luck!

I think sadly it is only for students up to 19 but might be worth emailing them to see if they have anything for adult learners. You can learn so much from the problems even if they don't. I also learn a thing or two when I do a paper : )

Sir I have a doubt like in 1st stage of this olympiad in India you will have to be really sure about time like you must solve a problem within 2 minutes ( this stage actually checks your speed rather than understanding, here you must need to read fast and solve questions with tricks and need to calculate speedly) . Please can you tell me like the time allotted in ipho is checking our speed or really is it enough to sit and deep think. I am confused weather to work on speeding or thinking beacause if you try to think enough your speed even might get affected. Like one more example if you made any mistake in nsep then it will affect your time in exam while everyone says in ipho you must need to think beautifully I mean if someone is thinking he/she is experimenting and seeing weather his/her approach was correct or not. If someone focuses on time too then I think a person like me would be distracted by time and try to solve questions even faster which would affect problem solving.
@MehakDabas2 ай бұрын
Sir I'll be really thank full if you help me because this question is confusing me a lot.
@zhelyo_physics2 ай бұрын
What an excellent question, while I think timing is important, I think the IPho questions definitely value deep thought. Timing is important of course, but I think more so for multiple choice questions. I think my best advice would be to take some practice IPho papers and experiment how you find it. Let me know, good luck and thank you for the comment !
