7 STRING SHOOTOUT - Ibanez RG7321 VS Ibanez RG7421

I just picked up a brown RG7421 at a pawn shop for $250, I love it!

Good video and riffs. I like the 7321 with AH pickups for the warm sound and i like the 7421 with quantum for the precision and articulation sound. Difficult choice for me.

Yeah they are so close! But perfect analogy. I think people lean towards the 7321 more as it sounds slightly more aggressive on high gain.

What's the max string gauge I can put on the rg7421 without modifying it? I'll mostly be in drop A but would be lovely to know if I could go down to A standard or drop G

@@amarzecic I've had 12-65 on no worries, so I would think it should handle 70 on the low without needing any change on the nut. 70 will handle Drop-G# good and probably Drop-G, but people complain seeing as it's 25.5" scale it can't. In my other vids I did 10-59 Drop G and it doesn't feel that much more floppy than 10-48s on a 6 String doing Drop C.

@@amarzecic Saying that below, there's a set by Heavy Core which is the KoRn Munky set which is 10-65, so that might be the sweet spot seeing as they play A Standard

@@amarzecic Ignore the hate. The 7421 is an amazing guitar. I keep mine in Drop A in 10-59. My 7321 is currently 10-62 in Drop-G# and it plays amazingly. And I like the 25.5" scale for playability. I have a 27" baritone for the low tunings like Drop-F, but I much prefer the shorter scale length

I have a 7421 and love it. It's so light and comfortable to play, and the walnut is beautiful. I've slightly modded it though, added some gotoh locking tuners and the DiMarzio's that came out of my RG752AHM (have nazgul/sentient in that now), and it's quite a sick guitar now, especially for the price!

I just got a 7321 best guitar I've ever played the neck is so thin and the tone that comes out of this guitar is blowing my mind it's a damn good guitar the only diffrence is the length of the neck I think

I bought a RG7321 back in 2005 or so. Initially I was hoping to buy a Schecter 7-string, but when I arrived at the shop I was told all the Schecters were sold out. Since I couldn't leave empty handed, I decided to buy the more expensive RG7321, but I guess my love for 7-string guitars died pretty quickly. Up until last autumn it still had the original strings from 2005. That's how little I've played the damn thing. 😄 I do think it's a pretty decent guitar though, so I might give it another chance once I get my home recording setup finished. I remember it having some issues with tuning stability but I guess that could be helped with a set of new tuners and/or a new nut. Maybe I'll try to use it as a regular 6-string. Time will tell.

Round about the same time as I got mine. It was the C-7 Schecters at the time, also wanted one. But since then, I stuck with the Ibby and it served me well. Get a new bridge for it too. I got a cheap gold one as shown in the vid... And it holds the tuning much better than the stock one did. Best of luck bro.

@@tommieswamp Ah yes, those Schecters certainly were in high demand back then. I do like Ibanez guitars though, and I still have plans to get my old RG470 up and running again. Definitely needs a costly fret job, but it's a great old workhorse from the late 90s so it probably deserves to be brought back to life. Anyway, I'll look into getting a new bridge for the 7321. Maybe the old one was part of the tuning problem. Thanks for the tip!

I haven't watched this yet, but I LOVED my first year RG7321. I stupidly lost that guitar (long story) and years later I now have a 2013 Ibanez UV70P. Amazing guitar however it honestly isn't the same. The UV70p's neck is a bit wider. I stupidly lost that guitar and though I love my Universe, I would LOVE to have this back. Time to creep Reverb.

Not sure if it is 1 piece maple neck 'cause when I look at other RG7421 Walnut Flat guitars I see 3 piece maple neck. They both sound good, but I think the EQ you have is originally for the 7321 and not for the 7421. So if you want to make a more fair comparison you could make an ideal EQ for the 7421 as well.

Settings for the recordings are both the same, input volume on the interface and no mixing on the guitars. Just the same Gorija plugin patch

@@tommieswamp yes I understand, but what I mean is that the setting is probably more optimised for one guitar and not so suitable for the other. So you could make an optimized setting for both of them and then compare the two. Not with these two guitars but for future videos with other guitar comparisons.

The 7321 pickups sound much better bro, fuller bass response and more aggressive tone. The 7421 seems a weaker 'lite' version.

This is a great analogy on it. Looks wise I think the walnut on the 7421 definitely wins. But the tone I get out of that old 7321 is just superior. 🔥

Think it's been discontinued for quite a while, but they go quite cheap on eBay or reverb when available. If you're happy with secondhand that is. They're solid as mine is 19 years old now haha
